MAKA? is praised as a stylish yet cozy spot with a chic and welcoming vibe, where guests often call the food delicious and creatively balanced and the cocktails and desserts stand out; the service is repeatedly described as attentive and friendly, contributing to an overall strong experience, though a few dishes may lack flavor or depth for the price and there can be waits or crowded seating during peak times; oysters on Wednesdays, standout offerings like bang bang shrimp and lobster fried rice and a refined ambiance make it suitable for dates, group dinners or celebrations, with a vibe that is both intimate and lively; while some experiences vary, the consensus is largely positive and many say they would return to MAKA?
I had an absolutely incredible experience at Makao in Montreal. From the moment we walked in, everything felt elevated - great atmosphere, amazing energy, & top-tier service.
Our waitress, Vlada, was truly outstanding. She was attentive without being overbearing, incredibly friendly, & made the whole experience feel special. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests, & it made a huge difference.
The food was just as impressive. I ordered the Szechuan steak, & it was cooked perfectly - tender, flavorful, & exactly what I was hoping for. Every bite was spot on. & the Dragon Margarita… wow. Easily one of the best cocktails I've had - bold, balanced, & absolutely delicious.
Between the service, the food, & the drinks, this place knocked it out of the park. I would highly recommend Makao to anyone visiting Montreal, & I'll definitely be back.
Really delicious food. All of the starters were fantastic, the baos, sticky ribs, & general tso. We got the shandong noodles as a main, it was tasty & good char from the grill, but could use some more sauce / flavor!
Anton provided great service too, attentive & kind. :)

I want to share my experience at Makao to give others a clear heads-up before deciding to go.
This was my first visit, & I went with guests from out of town, so expectations were naturally high. Walking in, the decor is genuinely impressive-very clean, upscale, & it absolutely gives off a luxury dining experience. Based on that alone, you expect the food quality to match.
Unfortunately, it didn't.
The food across the board was very bland. The steak was poorly seasoned & not very tender, & the lobster lacked flavor as well. For the price point, the portion sizes & overall quality just didn't add up. It felt overpriced for what was served.
To be fair, the service was good, the staff were professional, & the restaurant itself was clean. Also, the drinks were the one highlight of the night.
I always give positive reviews when they're earned, but I also believe in being honest when they're not. Everyone at our table left disappointed, especially given how strong the first impression is when you walk in.
Just something to keep in mind if you're considering going-don't let the decor set expectations too high for the food.
Meh.... First time at this restaurant, will not go again or recommend. The food was flavorless to ok max. The cocktails tasted like there was barely any alcohol in them. The atmosphere was a bust as well. Tables are cramped together & the aile to walk back & forward in the restaurant was right behind your seat.
Another review said it perfectly = an attempt to appear upscale.
The service was just ok, the waitress explained the menu like it was a race & the rest of the service felt very awkward. She was still very polite & nice... but nonetheless awkward. At first we thought the prices might be ok, but the lack of flavor made it seem like a waist of our money & time. Very disappointed, good marketing though on Instagram .... cuz it really fooled us !
Je suis allée manger chez Makao & honestly… la bouffe était INCROYABLE.
J'ai pris les lamb chops - portion généreuse, flavor qui a dépassé toutes mes expectations 🔥
& là… l'Amaretto Sour… JÉSUS.
I almost wanted to kiss the bartender 😭 she made that drink like she knew :
'nopeee, it's Saturday night, let me make her night.'
Bref, je recommande à 100%. Food, vibes, drinks… tout était on point 💃🏽🍸
I came here by myself & I felt honestly comfortable. The atmosphere was calm. I had the shandong noodles & it was honestly a 10/10. I like how the food was simple yet flavorful! Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.
MAKA? offers a truly exceptional dining experience. Every course was flavorful & expertly crafted. The service was impeccable, with staff making sure we were well taken care of without being intrusive. It's worth every cent & more!
