The chai is authentic & a must have! I've had almost everything on the menu & highly recommend the Dahi Puri & Pani Puri. The Gulab Jamun Cheesecake is very good too & everything savory is a must-have. Beautifully done venue, very accessible.
When Maison Chaishai first opened a few years ago, I was genuinely excited about it. I visited on my own to try it, then brought friends & recommended it as a great new Indian street food spot. At the time, customer service felt like a priority.
So when I won a'meal for two' Instagram giveaway in 2022, I was excited to return. There was no expiry date stated, & when I contacted the restaurant to ask how to redeem it, they replied asking when I could come - clearly acknowledging the prize.
Due to major life changes & moving provinces, I didn't follow up right away & admittedly forgot. When I returned to Montreal this past October & saw the restaurant running another giveaway, I reached out again via Instagram to redeem my original prize but received no response.
Since I was nearby with my family, I went in person. I explained the situation clearly, fully aware the prize was for two people & more than willing to pay for additional items. The employee was kind but clearly new & said she'd need to speak with a manager.
When I spoke with a member of the management/owner's family, I was told nothing could be done & that I should contact the promoter. When I calmly explained that there was no expiry date, that the prize had been acknowledged, & that I had already tried contacting them with no reply, the conversation escalated unnecessarily. I was told I was wasting their time & that they were too busy to deal with this.
Even if the restaurant chose not to honor the prize, the situation could have been handled with basic courtesy or a small gesture. Instead, the interaction was dismissive & unwelcoming, & I left feeling embarrassed, especially in front of my family. We decided to leave without eating anything & spent our money elsewhere.
This wasn't about the cost of a meal - it was about how a returning customer was treated. Honoring the giveaway or simply handling the situation kindly would have built goodwill. This experience did the opposite. I also felt bad for the employee, who seemed unsupported & undertrained.
Disappointing experience, not because of the prize itself, but because of how it was handled.
Uncoordinated service (Tea arrived 10 mins later than snacks. By the time we got our drinks, we were done with all the food items)
Food okay.
Atmosphere good.
I recently ordered two pink teas for $12.50. While the price itself isn't an issue, the portion size was disappointing. The tea was served in a very small cup, filled only about 70-75% of the way.
To be fair, the pink tea tasted excellent. However, when a business charges a premium price, customers reasonably expect a corresponding portion. Offering such a small quantity at a high price leaves customers feeling undervalued. In the long run, it is far more important to retain customers through fairness & consistency than to make a quick profit at their expense.
Even with great taste, customers may hesitate to return if they feel they aren't receiving good value. For comparison, Chai Wala offers a more generous portion at a more reasonable price.
I hope the business considers adjusting its portion sizes to better align with the pricing, as this would greatly enhance the overall customer experience.
Les propriétaires sont des plus avenants & sympathiques & parlent français! La nourriture était excellente! Merci!
I've been a regular customer here with my friends for a long time & allow me to say that this is the most down to Earth restaurant ever.
The food, customer service, & quality is top notch at all times, they never miss!
I highly recommend the chai & samosas!
Such a beautiful place with great service especially by Hiba (you are the best).
So wonderful to happen apon this little treasure while visiting Montreal. Such a lovely, helpful & smiley young lady serving.. & the chef was so welcoming & friendly. I even got tips on the onion Bahjia, which were perfect. We had the specials, so delish. Food here seems traditional, with the homemade taste & feel. Don't miss the chai tea.. really enjoyed that too.
Hard to rate the atmosphere as it was late & quiet. But the decor is very colourful & very clean. We don't mind waiting for'fresh food' cooked to order. So worth the wait. Thank you son, for the recommendation. We'll be back.
(Was truly hungry so no pics.. tucked straight in!)
Came here after my class & Hiba was bery friendly & suggested me an amazing food!
It was my first time trying this place, lovely ambience, great service & the food was amazing, must try the green biryani & butter chicken.
I used to come here all the time but haven't been in a few months , & while the food is good the service needs to be better . The girl taking my order was so rude & condescending even though i was very polite to her . Every time i asked her for something she seemed annoyed & this made my expirience very uncomfortable Won't be back here .
Slow slow slow....
I've been here a few times, & it has gotten progressively worse on each visit . Today, it was over 45 minutes for a Biryani.... A simple rice dish. There are only 3 other people in the restaurant.
Update (Sep'25): Been back twice more & service is back to normal speed. However, now I have run into the owners both times, & they are very happy to have feedback & a discussion.
Amazing food & service.. specifically tandoori chicken.. Hiba gave an amazing service 🙂
Chaishai has a nice interior & the food was really good. The service was a bit slow, but overall it's a nice spot to enjoy Indian food in Montreal.
