We were there on a Wed ~12 & we had maybe a 10-15 min wait - & fortunately all waiting inside to order. No line around the block. There is seating inside - more than I would have thought from the pictures/reviews, but we couldn't get a table & ended up eating it in our car. We got the #3 La Tremblay - chicken breast. It comes with a salad & fries. It's enough for 2 people. We thought the salad was great - wished there was more of that vs the fries. The fries were everywhere - you literally had to dig thru your box to find the chicken. & to me - that was the flaw. You're known for the chicken but truly - the box mostly contained fries....fries that weren't that good. Now - don't get me wrong - the chicken was good - when we could get some pieces of it. I thought the sauce with it was very flavorful. Is it worth the hoopla? Not in my eyes. Focus on what you do well - the chicken & don't surround it with bland fries.
Awesome! I ordered the salad with chicken & it was great 👍 The menu is on 3 different walls in English, French, & Portuguese sometimes hehe Staff is friendly & the service is fast & done with care. You can dine in; there are some tables & high chairs for the bar tables on the windows.
It's not what it used to be, unfortunately. We ordered a chicken poutine, & it went straight to the garbage. The fries were clearly from the day before or several hours old because they tasted like cardboard.
Friendly atmosphere, with delicious food. Portions were generous, but service was not professional. I needed to ask for many things like napkin, sauce, plates, etc. Overall, it's highly recommended.
Great Portuguese chicken, roasted on skewers, fresh bread, & great fries. What else can you ask for when you want a good meal.
Recommended by Canadian friends, we tried this highly reputed Portuguese restaurant, & we were not disappointed by the excellent poutines & chicken sandwiches! The portions are generous, & the prices are reasonable. The salads are also of good quality. So, the quality/price/quantity ratio is unbeatable in the city. Expect a bit of a wait (30 minutes during lunchtime). There are few seats inside, but good weather allows for takeout & a meal at La Fontaine Park, which is just next door. I highly recommend it!
Located in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood of town, Ma Poulle Mouillée is a very popular, no-frills spot that's as famous for it's insanely long lines & wait times as it is for their succulent Portuguese style chicken. & while trying to get that aforementioned chicken can easily require standing in a line anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, most loyalists would say that it's absolutely worth the trouble & I would agree. Jean-Jacques Rousseau once said "Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet" & boy was he right. The chicken coming out of this place is absolutely insane. It's full of flavor, it's moist & it is one of the bites of food I've had in a very long time. Depending on what you order, the contents of your box might change a bit but I recommend you get the "Le Tremblay" option for $16CAD which features some chicken breast, a ton of fries & a side salad of greens with shaved carrots in a delicious vinaigrette. Don't share, just chow down in shame. It's greasy, it's tasty & full of flavor. If you're super hungry (you must be American - hi!) you can get other, larger options: ones with chorizo or even befana & while the first is scrumptious, the befana was nothing to write home about & ordering it isn't something I'd do again. Honestly the Tremblay is plenty of food. Service wasn't particularly friendly or fast - but man, it just doesn't matter. Just get in line & you'll be rewarded with a Portuguese feast which shines some spotlight on a cultural piece of Montreal that few other places can showcase as well. A+
Went to Ma Poule Mouillée after a couple friends recommended it to me & it definitely did not disappoint! There was a line up when we arrived but it didn't take too long, maybe 10 mins? Ordering was very easy, menu was everywhere & easy to read. Highly recommend anything with the chicken + chorizo sausage! Both taste so good! The only thing is there is not a lot of seating. There is a park nearby if you want to take out & eat there.
Thicccccccc boy portions & so worth it for the value. Shared it among 3 big growing manz & i wasn't stuffed by any means but def hit the spot. Portuguese chicken on top was juicy juicyyy yum yum. Although, chorizo with the poutine was kind of mid. Fries were freshhhh. First time I went here & I barely dented it when I ate it by myself so 100% should share with at least 1 other person. Will always hit it up anytime I'm back in MTL lezzzz go
I ordered the small poutine & ate it at La Fontaine park nearby. I loved the chicken, cheese, & fries, but the chorizo wasn't necessary in my opinion & I wish the gravy wasn't thickened with cornstarch. However this was my first intro into Canadian poutine so I have nothing to compare it with.
Food was delicious but they messed up my order multiple times. Poutine has way too much gravy & it made fried saugy. Flavors were great! I would recommend if you want to her a great Poutine but would suggest gravy on the side. Their hot sauce was amazing. Chicken is super juicy.
Friends took us here as we are out of town & had the best poutine I've ever had in my life 10/10 life changing experience
The Portuguese poutine is quite large portion. It's with their grilled chicken & sausage. We prefer animal style fries in comparison to poutine. We tried their chicken & Grillé sandwich as well. The food was too salty for us. The croissant was good.
This was some of the best chicken I've ever had! The sauce was packed with flavor, the meat was tender & the fries were the perfect compliment. My friend got the poutine & that is a must-try (just be prepared to take a nap after). The portions are HUGE, we could have easily shared an item - we ended up with a lot of leftovers which isn't always a bad thing.
Get the small! The sizing & portions of food given is HUGE. I got #11 Chorizo & chicken salad -- I really enjoyed the amount of onions given & loads of meat with it. It was a great surprise. My friends got the chorizo & chicken poutine... watching them eat made me full. The dessert was good if you're looking for a sweet treat! Overall great money value for the portions!
The line was 30 minutes in the afternoon of a Sunday. I expected more for the reviews of the chicken however the sauce was the star of the show of the poutine. The fries kept crispy for a long time. The tables do not get wiped for a while due to how busy they are so I would take the food & eat elsewhere. Would also order the egg tarts!
I've been coming here for years & it's definitely one of our favorite casual spots in town. That being said - the chicken is hit or miss. I came here for Mother's day & the chicken was incredible it was juicy, well seasoned, not overcooked. Everyone in our family raved about it. I came again today to grab food for my family on Father's Day & the chicken was very dry, overcooked & poorly seasoned. Either way the price is right, the employees are friendly & efficient & we will keep supporting them. I highly suggest it to everyone
The poutine here was so, so good. The chicken & chorizo were elite, the cheese curds squeaky, & the fries didn't get soggy with the gravy until over 20 min after. I'd have to come back to get just the chicken too. The egg tarts were really good, comparable to what I've had in Portugal.
I've eaten at a lot of chicken places in my life & this is easily one of the best. Beautiful smoky roast chicken with just a little bit of spice, perfect fries what more can you want? The only downside is the ordering system can be a little confusing with them just sliding a number ticket on the counter. It's busy too, but because it's really good!
Great food. Huge portions, most of these could be for 2 people easily. Friendly staff & decent seating. Would go back.
