One of my fav places to visit in Montreal! Can be a popular spot on a sunny day, came back for lunch with a much shorter wait.
Ordered the number 8 - Portuguese poutine that consisted of juicy charcoal roasted chicken pieces, chorizo on a plate of fries, gravy & cheese curds. I ordered the small size, it's enough for 2 adults!
Paired with a mango Sumol drink & a custard pastry!
You have to eat here!

Long lines but it goes fast. Only 1 clean bathroom stall, gender neutral.
Petite poutine (no. 8 - chicken, chorizo, gravy, cheese, with fries) is perfect amount for one person. Love how the fries are still crunchy with the huge amount of tasty gravy & cheese. The chicken is tender & juicy (no dry bits). Wasn't a huge fan of the chorizo but still tasted good.
Love the huge amount of toppings. With just the right amount of salt.
Service is fast & polite.
Ma Poule Mouillée was my first stop for poutine on my first trip to Montreal, & it was a great introduction to this Canadian classic. I'd heard it was one of the best places in the city. Since this was my first time trying poutine, I can't say whether it's truly the best-but it definitely set the bar high.
We ordered the Portuguese-style poutine with BBQ chicken & chorizo. The chicken was juicy & flavorful, reminding me a little of Nando's, while the fries, cheese curds, & gravy came together into a rich & satisfying meal. The chorizo was good, but next time I'd order it with only the BBQ chicken so I could enjoy that flavor even more.
The portions are enormous-one order can easily feed two people, or even three if you're not very hungry. There is seating available, but it also works perfectly as a grab-&-go spot. You can take your food to the park nearby & enjoy it outside.
The staff were lovely, & the whole experience was enjoyable. I'll definitely return on my next trip to Montreal to try the chicken-only version.
I love:
- Poutine with Chicken & Chorizo: This was incredibly flavorful & the portion was very generous, we actually had to take the rest home to enjoy for a second meal!
- Calamari: It tasted very fresh & was grilled to perfection. It could maybe use just a tiny pinch of salt to fully bring out the flavor, but I really liked it!
Nice to have:
Egg Tarts: These were just okay. They can be skipped unless you are really craving something sweet after dinner.
I got the small poutine & I must say that in a world of inflation & shrinkflation, this is not a bad price at all! They pile on the toppings & fill the container to the brim. They also don't cheap out on the chorizo & chicken. Overall it is a little salty for my taste. I also got a Portuguese tart & it totalled to $17-$18.
Walking into the restaurant it was a little chaotic, the restaurant workers were rushing around as it was super busy so you can either ask them to order or wait for them to ask you. After they take your order, you just move down the line to the cash register where you can buy pastries.
The food is very good. It lives up to the hype. The chicken has great flavor. I liked the Poutine with chorizo & chicken. It was well made with great flavored gravy, the cheese was fresh, & the fries had the right blend of crispiness & mushiness. I waited in a long line, but it moves fast. It is worth it for a first time, but in the future I will call it in for take out. The line is a bit much for frequent visits.
Got the popular rotisserie chicken & chorizo poutine & it definitely was worth the hype. Flavorful & extremely large portion. Very generous with the meat. Unfortunately the fries fell short on my visit today. They tasted like they were left out for a while. Some of them were so hard to bite down.
Chicken & chorizo poutine didn't live up to our expectations. Portion size was good, fries were hard & curds were cold. Custard donut was delicious!
