A must visit place in Montreal, This spot serves an amazing twist on classic poutine! The grilled chicken & spicy chouriço add incredible smoky flavor,. Portions are huge, the fries stay crispy, & the staff is super friendly. Highly recommended if you love comfort food!
Ma Poule Mouillée is a great spot in Montréal for anyone who enjoys Portuguese chicken, generous portions, & satisfying comfort food. The menu has a clear focus, & the combination of charcoal-grilled chicken, flavourful sauce, & hearty sides makes it easy to understand why this restaurant attracts so much attention.
The chicken is the main attraction. The charcoal grilling gives it a lovely smoky flavour that works beautifully with the seasoning & sauce. Paired with fries & salad, it makes a filling, satisfying meal. The spicy sauce is especially appealing if you enjoy some heat, adding another layer of flavour to the chicken & making those fries even more tempting.
The Portuguese-style poutine is another highlight. With chicken & chouriço added to the fries, cheese, & sauce, it offers a delicious twist on a Montréal classic. The combination is rich, savoury, & substantial enough to enjoy as a meal on its own. It is a particularly good choice if you love loaded poutine & want something with a little extra character.
The atmosphere is casual & lively, making it suitable for an easy lunch, an informal dinner with friends, or a takeaway meal. The generous portions are another appealing feature, especially when you arrive hungry. Since this is a popular restaurant, allowing some extra time is a sensible idea during busy periods.
What makes Ma Poule Mouillée stand out is how well its signature dishes fit together. The smoky chicken, distinctive sauce, & hearty poutine give the restaurant a memorable identity. For anyone exploring Montréal's food scene & craving a generous, flavour-packed meal, this is certainly a place worth considering.
Whenever we craved a truly indulgent meal, we went out of our way to this local Portuguese chicken counter. Their Portuguese-style poutine, grilled chicken, & grilled squid were non-negotiable & we never left without grabbing the flan.
The food was so good, I ordered the large poutine with chicken & chouriço. Absolutely delicious, I didn't realise that the large was family-sized though, so I unfortunately had to abandon most of it as I had a flight leaving soon. If I am ever back in Montreal, which I hope to be soon, I will definitely be returning as I have been craving it so badly here in the USA.
Really wanted to love this place . But we were disappointed, this poutine was exactly what I expected. A regular poutine with chicken on top.
1. Service was bad through & through. From the ladies taking orders who were not friendly & didn't give us napkins. To the wait time. There wasn't even a line & we still waited 25 minutes just to take our order.
2. The sausages were cold , McCain fries were better than those fries.
3. Chicken skin was so rubbery.
No reason to come back for us sadly. Price was decent though. But La banquise is way better.
We tried the poutine with grilled chicken & chorizo as well as their Portuguese tarts. The line was about 20 mins & the food was mediocre. In our opinion, definitely not worth for the line up & will not revisit again.
There is some seating inside, but most people take out. Our group of five ordered the regular sized poutine, a whole chicken, a chicken sandwich, a sausage sandwich, & small salad. Everything tasted great, & we especially liked their version of poutine & the perfectly grilled chicken. As others have mentioned, the portions are generous, & we found the regular sized poutine to be more than enough for our group.
Unfortunately, this was not worth the hype, & I would not recommend it. After years of wanting to try it, I was really disappointed.
The sauce on the chicken was honestly disgusting. It tasted like there was wine or some kind of alcohol that hadn't cooked off, & it didn't taste like Portuguese chicken at all. The sauce in the poutine was better in the sense that it was actually edible & didn't have that strong, pungent taste, but it still wasn't anything special.
The chicken from the plate was dry, as were the fries. We asked for spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. Even my son wouldn't eat the chicken or fries.
After waiting so long to finally try it, I was extremely disappointed. Definitely not worth waiting in line for, in my opinion.
