I can't understand the hype.
This was the first spot I wanted to try in Montreal & I don't know if it was because of high expectations, but this place was very disappointing.
At first glance & smell of the restaurant, I thought this poutine would be amazing but it just didn't work well all together.
The service here as a non-fluent french speaker was for some reason very difficult. Navigating to get napkins was a chore & it seemed like no one wanted to help but instead watch me walk back & forth looking for it even after asking & being misinformed.
The best aspect I'll give them is the quality of preparation for the roasted chicken, understandable when you walk in & see the setup dedicated to it. The rest of the poutine just struggles as a cohesive menu item & you end up just have too much going on. The fries, gravy, & cheese were not great & I just can't vouch for this place being great.
As guides recommend, I would still try this place out but don't be surprised if it isn't to your taste/disappoints.
The best poutine & chicken ever we always go there all the way from Laval yummy the best of the resssttttt
Really happy to find this place. The small #8 poutine is huge, delicious, & very reasonably priced. Tip if you're visiting: the front door is a push-in. I saw at least 3 people (& myself) get confused when trying to pull open. lol
Une poutine délicieuse, le poulet est trop trop bon ! On a attendu un peu mais ça valait sans hésiter !
The poutine's taste was incredible, they were very generous in their food quantity, & get this : the price paid in the end was the exact same as the price disaplayed (i.e. tax were included in the displayed price) & such good quality for a relatively low price point, love it! Truly a 10/10 place!
One of the best chicken meals I've tried in Montréal. They use a charcoal grill, which gives the chicken an amazing flavor. If you're into poutine, definitely give it a try! you can get it with chicken & sausage, & it's delicious.
Can't go wrong at this MTL staple, get the poutine for $19 & share with several people. The line is worth the wait. Also if they have any left, pick up a Massa (sweet bread cake) & enjoy with your coffee the next morning
Ma Poule Mouillée is easily one of the best spots in Montreal if you're craving truly tasty, satisfying chicken. It absolutely lives up to its reputation as a TripAdvisor-recommended place, & after my visit, I can see why it's so popular.
I ordered a salad, poutine, & their famous chicken, & the total came to a little over $40-well worth it for the quality & portion sizes. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned, & cooked just right with that signature Portuguese-style flavor. The poutine was rich & indulgent, loaded with toppings & full of bold taste, while the salad balanced everything out nicely with fresh ingredients.
One of the things I really appreciated was that you can actually see how they cook your food. It adds a level of transparency & trust, & it's honestly fun to watch the process. You know you're getting something freshly prepared right in front of you.
The service was fast & pleasant. Even though the place was busy, the staff handled everything efficiently & kept things moving without sacrificing friendliness. That said, be prepared-there's often a line of people waiting, which says a lot about how good the food is. Seating is limited, so it's not the best spot if you're looking for a long, relaxed dine-in experience.
Overall, if you want delicious, fresh chicken & don't mind a bit of a wait, this place is a must-visit.
Super generous portion of poutine filled with lots of tender rotisserie chicken & slices of chorizo. We shared a small poutine between 3 people & it was enough. The gravy is rich, but starts to get a little salty near the end. You order in at the kitchen area then pay & pickup your food at the cash register. Would recommend for delicious & reasonably priced poutine!
Super bon resto portugais. Les portions sont généreuses pour le prix . Une grosse poutine au poulet & saucisse 20$ taxe in / 2 personnes & incapables de la finir .
Le poulet est juste délicieux !
Prochain rendez-vous c'est poulet all in !
Their poutine is delicious. Highly recommend this place. The madame was kind & approachable, & she answered all my questions about the food.
The poutine is the best I've ever had (as a québécois that says a lot) & the chicken was so good I had to buy the sauce & seasoning mix immediately after. I always recommend my friends to come here when they visit the city.
For the price point, you get a TON of food which is always a plus. However, the chicken was on the drier side & mild in flavour. Maybe my expectations were too high? I did skip out on the poutine so maybe that would've been the highlight of the meal. I got the half chicken with salad & fries - fries would've definitely been better as poutine. On their own, they were not very good.
I also wish service was more helpful. As first time visitors, it was a bit overwhelming to order, & the lady taking our order was very distracted & wasn't helpful in her recommendations.
