I can't understand the hype.
This was the first spot I wanted to try in Montreal & I don't know if it was because of high expectations, but this place was very disappointing.
At first glance & smell of the restaurant, I thought this poutine would be amazing but it just didn't work well all together.
The service here as a non-fluent french speaker was for some reason very difficult. Navigating to get napkins was a chore & it seemed like no one wanted to help but instead watch me walk back & forth looking for it even after asking & being misinformed.
The best aspect I'll give them is the quality of preparation for the roasted chicken, understandable when you walk in & see the setup dedicated to it. The rest of the poutine just struggles as a cohesive menu item & you end up just have too much going on. The fries, gravy, & cheese were not great & I just can't vouch for this place being great.
As guides recommend, I would still try this place out but don't be surprised if it isn't to your taste/disappoints.
Best grilled chicken & fries in the city. Go during off hours or you'll torture yourself as you watch & smell the delicious chicken grilling while you wait.
Honestly the fries were not fresh, they seemed they were sitting there since the previous day. The chicken had little to no seasoning.
They are getting running on the hype & the quality has gone down. Not pleased at all 🥲
The chicken most excellent - moist, good tasty skin, this is worth the trip - the fries are what you would expect & a salad. It is a generous helping
The natas were sadly disappointing, min layers of lamination, cold, not crispy pastry, insides are nothing above average
Believe the hype & come here when you're hungry. Generous, moist chicken that doesn't break the bank. The staff was efficient, welcoming & warm. The line is long, but they have the system perfected. We were the 4th group outside the door, but we were ordering within 10 min.
Inside is alot more spacious than you'd think by looking at the outside.
We shared the #2 Louis Cyr which is 1/2 a whole chicken served with abundant fries along with salad with tomatoes.
Get it spicy! It's not really spicy. It's a nice flavor & the spice does not linger at all.
We knew this place was good when we were on a food tour at a different place & a random local guy said to come here.
Delicious!
The chicken was juicy & the fries wasn't oily. The combination was the salad was perfect.
This portion for 18 dollars totally worth it!
Great food at Ma Poule Mouillée. Chicken, fries, & salad were all really good. Very crowded place, but definitely worth the wait.
Ma Poule Mouillée is easily one of the best spots in Montreal if you're craving truly tasty, satisfying chicken. It absolutely lives up to its reputation as a TripAdvisor-recommended place, & after my visit, I can see why it's so popular.
I ordered a salad, poutine, & their famous chicken, & the total came to a little over $40-well worth it for the quality & portion sizes. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned, & cooked just right with that signature Portuguese-style flavor. The poutine was rich & indulgent, loaded with toppings & full of bold taste, while the salad balanced everything out nicely with fresh ingredients.
One of the things I really appreciated was that you can actually see how they cook your food. It adds a level of transparency & trust, & it's honestly fun to watch the process. You know you're getting something freshly prepared right in front of you.
The service was fast & pleasant. Even though the place was busy, the staff handled everything efficiently & kept things moving without sacrificing friendliness. That said, be prepared-there's often a line of people waiting, which says a lot about how good the food is. Seating is limited, so it's not the best spot if you're looking for a long, relaxed dine-in experience.
Overall, if you want delicious, fresh chicken & don't mind a bit of a wait, this place is a must-visit.
I ordered 2 meals To go, One chicken sandwich with fries & salad, The Other one , Half a chicken With fries & salade. they put everything in the same box, with the salad on top of the fries, when I got home, the salad was soggy & not edible… which ended up in the garbage , I don't see the common sense to put salad on top of fries in the same cardboard box. & another thing I had asked for extra sauce on the chicken & there was ZERO SAUCE on the chicken. Very disappointed, I won't be going back there again..
The poutine is the best I've ever had (as a québécois that says a lot) & the chicken was so good I had to buy the sauce & seasoning mix immediately after. I always recommend my friends to come here when they visit the city.
What an awesome spot!! Best chicken we have EVER tasted, hands down! So fast, friendly, & the value is amazing, huge portions! If we could give it 6 stars, we would!!!
RUN, don't walk to Ma Poule Mouillee!!
For the price point, you get a TON of food which is always a plus. However, the chicken was on the drier side & mild in flavour. Maybe my expectations were too high? I did skip out on the poutine so maybe that would've been the highlight of the meal. I got the half chicken with salad & fries - fries would've definitely been better as poutine. On their own, they were not very good.
I also wish service was more helpful. As first time visitors, it was a bit overwhelming to order, & the lady taking our order was very distracted & wasn't helpful in her recommendations.
Best poutine in Montreal. I dare say that it might beat La Banquise across the street. I got their chicken chorizo poutine & the fries were great. For the price of a small size, I didn't expect a heaping tower. I was completely full & satisfied. My friend & I went on a Sunday around lunch time so there was a line but service moved fast.
An old friend took me here when he was in town & I was blown away. Best portuguese food I've had since I was in Portugal!
We had huge plates of perfect rotisserie chicken, Fries, Salad. All proper food which speaks right to your soul.
Table space was limited but the two of us were able to share a 4 top with another pair of friends & the four of us ended up chatting about life while we had our meals together. It felt very human to be able to share a meal with strangers like that. Overall experience was great & I'll definitely show this place to my friends.
Muito Obrigado & Merci bien 🙏 🕺
Heerlijke poutine gegeten en ook gebraden kip overladen met frietjes : heel lekker en veel. We hebben een doggiebag meegekregen.
A friend in Ottawa told us to check this place out, & we are so glad we did! My friend & I shared the chicken & chorizo sandwich, with mild sauce, fries & salad on the side. Everything was so good! The fries were crispy, the sandwich had no need for extra fluff & stuff.... meat, bread, sauce. Delicious! We went at 4:00 on a Thursday afternoon, so parking was relatively easy, & we were able to get seating easily as well. Highly recommend!
Holy moly. The food here is awesome! Really great value for money, too. The staff were super super friendly & helpful, we were even serenaded with some Édith Piaf!
I came back because I really enjoyed my first visit, but this time was disappointing. I asked to switch the fries for rice, but the change wasn't made. Since the place was fully packed & there was nowhere to eat, we only noticed when we got home. I also didn't receive the salad. Compared to my last visit, the quality has definitely gone down. It still tasted decently good, but I'm disappointed.
Salad = 0
Fries = 0
Chicken = 1000000000000000
Worth going for the amazing chicken.
First I must say for value this place does it right. Very large portion, it was impossible to finish! Bring tupperware...
However a few things you should bear in mind:
1. Almost nowhere to sit so take out is kind of a must if you want to eat peacefully.
2. Crowds of young snotty people thinking they're all that. Lots of pushing & shoving to get a seat. Also saw people butting in line a lot.
3. Lastly, & more importantly, while the portions are massive, the poutine was a let down. The gravy wasn't super hot so the curds remained as blocks. The chicken was great but there was more fries/curds/chorizo than chicken. My friend had the whole chicken & it was quite nice but again not piping hot. So maybe come during non rush hour & maybe things will be hot.
