Café Big Trouble on St-Denis is a solid spot for a quick coffee stop. The cappuccino was really good, nicely balanced & well made. I also had a breakfast sandwich, which was decent & did the job.
Overall, the food was all right & it's a good place to grab a quick bite & coffee when you're in the area. Worth stopping by if you're on the go.

Le Café Big Trouble sur la rue Saint-Denis à Montréal est une véritable pépite cachée, un endroit que j'adore fréquenter dès que je passe dans le Quartier Latin. Situé au 2054, un peu en hauteur (« up the stairs » comme ils disent), ce café est devenu ma destination préférée pour un brunch réconfortant ou un simple café dans une ambiance chaleureuse & verdoyante.
Ce qui me charme à chaque visite, c'est l'atmosphère cosy & pleine de vie : des plantes partout, une déco colorée & fun, une lumière douce qui invite à s'installer longtemps. On s'y sent tout de suite bien, comme dans un petit oasis au milieu de l'effervescence de la rue Saint-Denis. Le café est excellent - lattés parfaits, matcha onctueux, sourcing local - & les pâtisseries maison (sourdough, viennoiseries) sont à tomber. Côté nourriture, le menu brunch est généreux & délicieux : pancakes moelleux aux bleuets, burritos copieux, avocado toast créatif, sandwichs déjeuner gourmands… Tout est frais, savoureux, avec des options véganes bien pensées & des portions qui calnent sans alourdir.
Le personnel est un vrai atout : toujours souriant, accueillant, attentif, prêt à discuter ou à recommander. L'ambiance est détendue, parfaite pour travailler un peu, lire ou simplement profiter. C'est l'endroit idéal pour commencer la journée en douceur ou faire une pause réconfortante dans ce quartier animé.
Pour moi, Le Café Big Trouble incarne le meilleur du café montréalais : qualitatif, convivial, avec une touche d'originalité qui fait toute la différence. Si vous cherchez un spot brunch authentique & chaleureux, foncez sans hésiter ! Cinq étoiles amplement méritées, & un grand merci à l'équipe pour ces moments de pur bonheur. 🌿
My friends & I went to eat brunch at Le big trouble today & we had such a great time!
The food is insane & very fairly priced! The staff is so kind & we loved the whimsical decor! I got the Caesar chicken sandwich with extra breakfast potatoes on the side & it was marvelous! It was made with two very crispy chicken cutlets & a big helping of Caesar salad with parmesan & tomatoes between two soft pieces of focaccia! I have a big appetite but my meal could have easily fed two people!
It is also a very nice study spot during the week & so convenient considering how close it is to downtown & berri uqam!
Would definitely come again!
The best breakfast I've had in some time. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which consists of egg, cheese, sausage & a homemade English muffin. I also had a side of potatoes. Everything is homemade. I'll definitely be back. I am genuinely surprised at some of the negative reviews.

The food is delicious, comforting kind of breakfast food. They serve Traffic coffee, which is OK, but not an amazing roastery; suits the vibe though: bright pastel just missed the brat summer bandwagon kinda vibes: cute. If you're in a rush though, or even if you're not, just be advised that you wait a surprisingly long time for something as simple as a breakfast sandwich. The first time I came, it was busy, & the wait for a breakfast sandwich was around 45 minutes. The second time I came it was pretty quiet, & I still waited 30 minutes for a breakfast sandwich. I do like the flavor of the food at Big Trouble. If you have the time, try it out. I've just got less free time on my hands than others must have to spend it waiting that long for an English muffin, egg, sausage, & American cheese than other people have, apparently. Also, it would help if they called orders out more than once, in case you're in the bathroom or sitting outside & it's difficult to hear. Cool logo, so we bought the t-shirt.
Ordered breakfast here & was blown away by the quality of the food & coffee. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, & was surprised how different it was from a typical breakfast sandwich. The ingredients were high quality & the toasting was perfect. Great spot for brunch!
Nous étions cinq aujourd'hui à monter les marches du 2054, rue Saint-Denis. Cinq complices, à l'aise avec l'idée d'une sortie spontanée le dimanche, confiants que je saurais les mener à bon port. En effet, je me suis bâti une certaine réputation de fin connaisseur de la gastronomie montréalaise au fil du temps & on m'accorde carte blanche pour le choix du restaurant. Enfin, presque. K., me fixant bien droit dans les yeux, voulait s'assurer que je choisisse un CAFÉ. Va pour le café. Mais je devais trouver un café qui serve également de la bonne bouffe pour contenter les trois autres affamés qui attendaient patiemment que je leur annonce la destination : le Café Big Trouble. Ce fut un grand succès. Évidemment, le mérite ne me revient pas. En premier lieu, Montréal déborde de talent avec des cuisiniers qui font du travail de feu & ceux du café figurent dans leur nombre. En deuxième lieu, je ne suis pas un gastronome-pionnier. Je limite les risques de déconfiture en n'allant qu'aux endroits qui ont été encensés par des critiques sérieuses de La Presse, Le Devoir, Tastet... Cette fois-ci, c'est un article de J.P. Karwacki du magazine culturel The Main (en anglais) qui m'a mis la puce à l'oreille. Pour ceux qui regrettent le défunt Eater Montreal, sachez que M. Karwacki en était l'un des piliers. Le Café Gros Problème (*clin d'oeil*) séduit de prime abord par son emplacement & son penchant artistique. Posé en amont du trottoir sur une section piétonnière de Saint-Denis, on s'introduit dans la salle joyeuse & festive salle à manger par un large porche en bois massif surplombant la terrasse aux meubles jaunes. Le gris des briques de la façade contraste avec le mur adjacent, une murale éclatante, un kaléidoscope de couleurs qui semblent danser sous le ciel changeant. Des plantes suspendues à l'extérieur & à l'intérieur rappellent que même dans l'agitation urbaine, la nature trouve sa place. Kazna Dalz signe l'intrigante fresque qui égaye la cuisine, dépeignant des enfants (ou de grands adultes) qui s'amusent au milieu de nuages cotonneux & de fleurs bicolores. Deusio, le menu n'est pas en reste avec de délicieuses & abordables propositions, dont une délicieuse toast à l'avocat aux oignons confits. Quand bien même les toasts à l'avocat sont en vogue, celle-ci se distingue par une tendreté, une saveur & un bonheur rehaussés. Les épaisses & généreuses crêpes garnies de marmelade maison, moelleuses & aérées, peuvent calmer votre faim pour quelque 15 $. Le « chopped cheese » & le sandwich épicé au poulet frit combleront les amateurs de bons sandwichs grâce à leur fraicheur, leur délicatesse & leur savoureuse sauce. Enfin, le burrito-déjeuner avait de quoi plaire à tous, n'eût été la surabondante présence de sel. Tertio, je tiens à exprimer ma reconnaissance envers le caissier qui a su nous composer cet excellent festin. À seulement 19 $ par bouche, tous ont allègrement mangé jusqu'à plus faim. Je regrette simplement d'avoir complètement passé outre les pâtisseries... Elles étaient bel & bien sur le comptoir, mais je ne les ai pas vues. Ce sera pour une prochaine fois, alors !

Was pleasantly surprised by this découverte! Came with my daughter, staff was very accommodating & friendly & the food (breakfast sandwich especially) was quite tasty! I recommend ☺️
Nice & cute neighbor café, the service is pretty much self serve, order at the counter & go get it when is ready which is fine. The breakfast sandwich was really good. The coffee was a little disappointing, the Latte didn't have micro foam & even though it was just made it wasn't hot. The place is nice with plants & is a nice escape away from the cold outside
