Authentic Ecuadorian Cuisine - A Hidden Gem!
I had the pleasure of trying Ecuadorian food recently, & it completely blew me away! The flavors are rich, comforting, & full of personality. From the locro de papa, to the hearty fritata-cooked in spices, every dish felt like a warm hug from Ecuador.
The empanadas were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, & paired perfectly sauce. & don't even get me started on the tres leche cake - that was amazing.
What really stood out was the balance of ingredients - simple, but packed with flavor. You can taste the love & tradition in every bite. Whether you're already a fan of Latin cuisine or trying something new, Ecuadorian food is a must-experience. I'm definitely going back for more!Voir plus
If you're tired of Asian takeout, fried chicken, shawarma, sushi, mac&cheese, poke, ramen, burgers & beef noodles, then you owe it to yourself to check out La Hueca.
It's a South American (Ecuadorian) restaurant tucked away in a quiet food court downtown, in the same building as Marche Newon.
The food is uniquely flavored, delicious & really satisfying. Very comforting, especially on those cold, cold days.
I had the grilled chicken bowl - when I finished my meal, I was licking the bowl & already thinking of trying the other items on the menu. 2 carbs & 3 types of veg are included with the bowl so you know you're getting solid nutrition & real value for money.
I highly recommend a visit & do consider getting an extra order for the fam. You won't regret it.
June 2025: no change to my review, still an excellent choice for a great meal downtown.Voir plus
As an Ecuadorian I know how hard is to get the ingredients to recreate all the most flavorful dishes of my country.
But I can say that this place makes me have nostalgia of my people & the amazing food from Ecuador.
Sadly I never have time to take pictures because I devour everything too fast!
I love the encebollado, bolon , empanadas & the juice that are 100% fresh & natural!!!
I hope that other dishes are included in menu soon!! Guatita, seco, hopefully crabs 😜
Shout out to the owner, super friendly & attentive, & super hard worker!Voir plus
Lots of legit Ecuadorian dishes. Staff is super nice. Warmly recommending it!Voir plus
Great service by the owner. I am ecuadorian & this is probably the best encebollado I have ever tried. Even outside Ecuador. My son had the ceviche. The food is as close or even better than back home. Highly recommended.Voir plus

This was my first time trying Ecuadorian food & WOW! I'm carribean & grew up in a multicultural neighborhood in MTL with Dominicans, Salvadorians etc. The food was extremely good. The Chef & co-owner David explained me how to build my meal, was very welcoming & greeted me warmly when I had just arrived. I ordered Asada Carne bowl It was a pretty big bowl, nicely served, servi e was very fast & very pleasant. The music playing felt like home. Before leaving I did tell David that I would be back since I now work nearby.
Bravo to David & his wife & co-owner Margaux!Voir plus

Delicious & taste meal, my kids were impressed, I am Ecuadorian & taste some dishes at La hueca's , brought me back for a moment to Ecuador, nice service, & good sazón!!! Definitely we will go back !Voir plus
My first time having Ecuadorian food! Their bowls were delicious. Lots of flavour & I loved the different textures. I tried mote for the first time. It's giant corn kernels & tastes like potatoes. Their queso fresco is not too salty, like at some other places I've had. Service was warm & welcoming. It's in the Faubourg food court on the second floor towards the back. Follow the yellow tape on the ground, it will take you right there.Voir plus
Haven't eaten ecuadorian food in a few years & I swear it was better than I remember. Everything is not only really authentic but better than restaurants back home. The owner is super nice & gives very good recommendations if you don't know what to eat. Would love to go often but live out of the city, would visit Montreal just to eat here again!Voir plus
Ecuadorian here, I can truly testify this is as authentic as it getsVoir plus
My first Ecuadorian food experience & I'm impressed! For less than 14$ I had a tasty, filling meal that was non-dairy & high in protein. The man at the counter was also very friendly & patiently explained what the different choices were, keeping in mind my food restrictions. Will gladly go again.Voir plus
The people & service was absolutely wonderful but I'm sad to say that as an Ecuadorian this did not taste authentic. The ceviche that were ordered was overcooked, super soft, mushy, & oily. The empanadas ordered were so oil the napkin was drenched & dripping in oil. The only thing that was good were the drinks & the bowls. Super disappointed with the rest.Voir plus
Amazing food! Made by an Ecuadorian. Highly recommend the Empanadas de Viento! Don't skip this spot.Voir plus
There isn't many Ecuadorian restaurants here in Montreal so when i found this restaurant I had to go try it & I wasn't disappointed the service was really good, they have a friendly staff & great atmosphere. The food is delicious!!! I had a pulled pork sandwich that was packed with flavour it was amazing. They also have some vegetarian options! Truly a hidden gem must try & I will definitely be coming back!Voir plus
First time I try Ecuadorian food & La Hueca was great! Had the Ecuadorian marinated tofu bowl with a side of Yuca Great flavours & they give many options to customize the bowl. Their chimichuri & different mayo sauces compliment everything really well. Nice owners that took the time to explain to me what each item on the menu was & delivered the plate to my table Overall highly recommended for great flavours & really good price!Voir plus
As an Ecuadorian myself, I can tell you it tastes exactly like back home!Voir plus
The menu was a little intimidating at first, but the server put us at ease & explained everything to us, & even let us taste some of the ingredients before ordering. After tryinf Ecuadorian food for the first time, we can confidently say that we will be coming back. Changing 1-2 toppings/sauces gave the plate an entirely different flavor, & they were both amazing in their own ways. We can tell that they were super passionate about what they do, from their food to their service. We came here after seeing the 5 star reviews, & now we know why.Voir plus
