Review Summary

La Cour des Palmiers offers a visually stunning and luxurious setting for afternoon tea, frequently praised for its beautiful decor, festive atmosphere, and the delightful addition of live piano music. Many visitors appreciate the fresh, inventive selection of savory sandwiches, delicate pastries, and high-quality tea options that create a refined experience for special occasions. However, feedback regarding service is inconsistent, with several guests expressing frustration over long wait times, lack of attentiveness, and perceived understaffing that does not align with the premium price point. While some patrons receive exceptional and professional care, others find the service lacking and the portions insufficient, suggesting that the overall value and consistency of the tea service remain points of contention among guests.

Ritz Montreal definitely feels much more than Shangri-La Toronto, with an exceptionally good service attitude. Shangri-La's service attitude in Toronto is like you owe them money.

I went here for afternoon tea & it was wonderful! For 59 Canadian dollars a person, the Ritz-Carlton in Montreal is the perfect place to experience luxury at an affordable price. However, my one tidbit is that it seems as if they tried too hard to be fancy. Afternoon tea can be fancy, but it doesn't mean you need to make the food super complex. Was it bad? Not at all, but I still would've preferred simpler versions of everything & not the deconstructed-type food that people may view as being'fancy'

My mom & I had a beautiful experience enjoying our afternoon Tea. The sandwiches were divine, the flavors were inventive, fresh & rich. My favorites were a roast beef sandwich with truffle, which was rich & creamy. & a cucumber & caviar boat. Which was fresh with a touch of creaminess. The pastries were delicious. Including a mousse that tasted like caramel popcorn. It was resting on a delicious & buttery pie dough. The scones were also delicious, & the spreads were on point, specially one with strawberry & rose.
I loved their tea selection. Their options were fresh & very tasty.
The servers were very kind & attentive. Services was well timed. & everyone explained everything to us very clearly when we mentioned it was our first time.
It was a very nice experience! Loved the decor, including the huge painting of Artemis.

First time Palm court, high tea for us.
Hostess was very nice. Then, the waitress arrived. She seemed nice at first. Then she arrived carrying 2 metal plate carriers of food which was too much for her. She placed the first metal plate carrier in the middle. 2 of the 3 plates started to slide off the carrier. We corrected it by holding them. She continued to push it anyway & spilled half of my tea cup all over the tablecloth.
She promised to come & fix her mess. She never came back.
Some of my sandwiches had wet bread. One little orange pastry was inedible.

She never checked on us afterwards. She disappeared!
My daughter was happy, I was underwhelmed with this experience. Super expensive. I wouldn't go back.

I wanted to chime in along with others who have also expressed their disappointment about slow services - (hopefully management will do something about it). The service is VERY slow - just coming to take our order & to bring out the tea & then the food.... I think they are understaffed & the hotel would do well to hire an extra waitress. It was overall a frustrating experience, especially given the price of the afternoon tea. If you're looking for afternoon tea in Montreal, I recommend looking elsewhere - there are other hotels & some tea parlours in Old Montreal with much better service (& better food!)

one of the most expensive afternoon teas in the city & it took them 30 minutes to even pour water & bring the menu! what horrible service.

I recently visited for afternoon tea & overall had a lovely experience. The Palm Court is a beautiful space & the atmosphere feels very special. The live piano music added a wonderful touch, & the service from the staff was warm & attentive throughout. The food itself was also excellent. Everything tasted fresh & thoughtfully prepared.

The one aspect that surprised me, however, was how limited the cream & tea service felt. We were initially given only a very small amount of cream (roughly two tablespoons) for the scones. When I asked for more, the additional serving came with a full new set of jams we didn't need, but again only a very small amount of cream in a much larger container. We were also charged extra for this additional cream, which felt a bit unusual given the overall price of the experience.

Similarly, when I asked for more tea, the pot was simply topped up with hot water rather than being provided with a fresh tea bag. This left the second pot quite weak & watery. At around $100 per person after tax & tip, I expected the tea service itself to be more generous.

It's a wonderful setting & the quality of the food & service are excellent, but a more generous approach to the tea & cream would make the experience feel more in line with the premium price point.

I had high expectations for afternoon tea here & it really didn't deliver. The decor is beautiful, but the seating is in the lobby, which takes away from the experience & ambiance. For the price, I expected standout flavors & more care in the food, but everything tasted bland. Overall, it felt overpriced & underwhelming. I wouldn't return.
