This is a small restaurant conveniently located steps away from the Guy Concordia/St Mathieu exit of the metro. It's close to the university & many other great asian restaurants. Decor is modern, clean. Recently renovated as it opened in June of 2024. I heard about it through social media, they have other chains throughout Canada & the videos I saw all featured beautifully presented, generous portions of fried pork, chicken, fish or cheese drizzles in sauces & curries. My experience was just as advsertised, & delicious! Since we dined early, the restaurant was pretty empty. We were seated right away, offered a jug of cold water & showed how to retrieve the menu. They do not serve a printed menu, you will need to scan a QR code at the table to open up a PDF menu. This is easily accesible on their website as well. The specialty is fried chicken, pork cutlets, fish or cheese deep fried in a light breading & coated with a curry or teriyaki, mayo style sauce. There are different types of curries & sauces to choose from, including carbonara which is an original idea. The dishes are served with a small soup, white rice & pickled slaw/vegetables. We ordered an appetizer of the "snow cheese balls" which are deep fried mozzarella balls covered in a sweet honey type powder. Our main meals were the chicken katsu with carbonara & the pork katsu with original curry. The portions were generous, enough to share, & flavors were amazing. Meats were super tender, the curries were mild, not spicy & the breading on the meats were krispy, cooked perfectly. There's a lot I'd love to try, highly recommend coming with more people if you want to order more food & share. Service was friendly, food was speedy & everything was tasty. Must try!
The portion is HUGE, well worth the 20$ price. This shop specializes in fried cutlets (katsu) : you can choose the type of meat you want (chicken, pork, fish) or vegetarian (cheese or sweet potato & cheese) & also the sauce that you want. They have several options to choose from. I tried the curry one & my friend got the sweet chili supreme. Both were nicely fried & sauces were good. Earlier in the month, I tried more stuff from the menu & the quality was maintained. Get the fried cheeseballs & the yuzu highball. Overall, a good place for lunch, for takeout or just a easy supper.
First time trying & my friends & I absolutely loved it! As appetizers we had the cheese balls & the honey fries. The fries were so crispy & flavorful. The texture of the cheese balls was out of this world. We got the original, the curry & the spicy one. All of them were so good. Especially the spicy one, please get it with the sweet potato cheese katsu; the best combo. & a plus, servers were so nice.
The service is nice, the katsu is crispy & tender on the inside, I wish that they come with more gravy, because only half of them are covered & I feel it's enough. We took takoyaki as appetizer which was delicious. Since it was our first time, I asked for recommendations & we got the Curry katsu (it was good but I expected a bit more intense flavour) & the hot spicy Katsu (not as hot as expected). They include a small soup which is very tasty.
We arrived & were seated right away. We were served a pitcher of water & 2 cups. Not too long after looking at their menu through a QR scan, our orders were taken. We got the Takoyakis as an appetizer, Japanese Chicken Katsu, Pork Curry Katsu, Ginger Ale Highball & an Asahi. We received our drinks a few minutes after. Then we waited a good 40 minutes before getting anything. We watched as the other tables before us get served so we just kind of counted down by seeing who was there before us. Finally got our food but after waiting that long, we were saying how it really wasn't worth the wait. My japanese chicken katsu was... ok, portion was big. I did think that it could've came with a little more rice & slaw. My girlfriend's pork katsu didn't come cut so she asked for a knife to cut it herself. My highball was diluted from waiting so long. Halfway through our meal, our waitress initially asked if we received our takoyakis but I heard her ask if we ordered so I said yes. So after a few minutes, I told her we were still waiting & we cleared up the confusion & got our takoyakis (after finishing our main dish) They were delicious. Bigger than usual & the crunch was great. Oh & they kept moving tables around to seat customers but we had to keep moving our tables to give them space. Honestly, did not like that + we didn't get any food at that point. I think it would've been'okay' if we got our takoyakis first then our meals instead of waiting 40 minutes for our main dishes & having our appetizer served later. Also, the people who were seated after us received their food a lot faster than we did. Overall, the food is good but service time & organization is a mess. I would rather make katsu at home to be honest.
service was nice & attentive. the complimentary udon soup that came with our meal was so good we had thirds of it. original katsu was rly good! super crispy, not dry, flavourful curry. not as much of a fan of the brick cheese katsu, you get a lot less meat, which is replaced with cheese thats a bit bland imo. even with the ketchup-like dip.. didnt love it. the red carbonara udon is more spicy than anything, but i liked it on the side!! a lil expensive but i would still wanna come back to try their other udons + their cheeseballs (loved this too, was super cheesy) & for their original katsu :)
