Delicious, great relaxed atmosphere, caring staff - highly recommend!
We got the lunch tasting menu & a wine pairing (worth it) - our server Derek was fun to interact with, very attentive, & went the extra mile to make sure the experience was to our liking.
I had an unforgettable experience at Hoogan & Beaufort. This was my very first Michelin-star dining experience, my first tasting menu with wine pairing, & even my first solo trip to Montreal, so it was a very special occasion for me.
From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel so welcome & comfortable, even though I was dining alone. Every course was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, & paired perfectly with the wines. The team took the time to explain each dish & wine, which made the experience even more enjoyable & memorable.
To make the evening even more special, they surprised me with a complimentary appetizer & dessert. It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly made me feel valued as a guest.
Thank you to everyone at Hoogan & Beaufort for making my first Michelin-star experience one I'll never forget. It exceeded all of my expectations, & I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.
We visited recently for the first time after a recommendation from friends. We were drawn to the tasting menu with wine pairings, something we've really enjoyed at another Montreal restaurant. The food & wines were delicious & the four of us enjoyed our experience. The sommelier was exceptional with his generous comments & enthusiasm. If you're thinking of going, here are other things to consider. The cost with tip for four of us was $1400. The food servings are quite small [e.g. the main meat course the size of a golf ball] & I was hungry after dinner. The service is very formal--not much smiling--bordering on stiff [we asked for bread with the first course to soak up the delicious salad dressing & were told that was not part of their plan. They relented]. They have no Quebec wines on their extensive wine list; I should have said something as I find this surprising, perhaps unforgivable. So, I had mixed feelings but I hope this review helps you to decide on a visit. I won't be visiting again.

Montreal is sleeping on this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but it's more than worth it. My husband Adam & I did the tasting menu & the wine pairing (one of us did the Hoogan, & one of us did the Beaufort). Every dish was perfectly balanced, & the wine pairings were exceptional & so unique. I am pescatarian, & they easily accommodated my needs, despite not giving advanced notice on the reservation. Special shout out to Raja at the bar for making our anniversary meal extra special. His kindness & warmth made us feel right at home, & he has the bar fully under control. From cocktails, to local gin, & Montreal absinthe, he really showed us what the province has to offer. Another shout-out to Laurence for his deep knowledge of wine. It was such a treat to taste wines from lesser known/highlighted regions. This truly is the best restaurant we've tried in Montreal, & we cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much for the experience -- we can't wait to come back!
Unfortunately, this is one of the few fine dining experiences I was disappointed in & would not repeat.
The primary issue was the pacing of the meal. I was a single at the bar with the tasting menu + 1 app & was there more than 3 hours. This was despite arriving on time at opening, getting seated & ordering right away.
I waited about 40 minutes for my second course i asked the bar tender if the pacing was off. He said no the pacing is perfect! I was was stunned as they had poured my cold wine more than 15 minutes before that & it had gotten warm. Eventually he said they had gotten busy.... I guess they chose not to cook my food.
Even after this the pacing was very very slow.
I arrived hungry & the portions are pretty small so it seemed like a really long time until I got much food. The third & fourth courses, which are the substantive ones, were more than 2 hours after I sat.
After my main course I asked for my dessert right away or it would have been more than the 3:10 I was there. Again, I'm just one person at the bar. Not a couple asking for a slow-paced meal.
They brought me a free appetizer but said it was to thank you for keeping my reservation....? I'm not really sure if it was because of the wait...? I very much appreciate the appetizer but given The price of the meal & the overall experience it was still disappointing.
To the good: The staff was fantastic. Every single person who worked there was very nice & very personable. The bartender could not have been a nicer guy. Also the somaliers really explained the pairings very well! The focaccia is amazing. The oysters are great!
I enjoyed all of the courses except the dessert which was well & beautifully prepared but just not to my taste, which is fine.
As an additional note: it was raining that night. They did not open the doors until exactly 5:30. Several guests were standing in the rain under umbrellas as there is no awning.
Excellent service from our server. The place is nice but nothing unique or special about the decor or pleasant music.
Enjoyed the amuse-bouche. Warm oysters was a first for me but it was pretty good. Trout appetizer was perfect. Halibut was a little basic for a main. I did not enjoy the gingerbread, the whole thing tasted like a Christmas cake, not gingerbread. The housetini is basically an espresso martini with some orange. I'm surprised they didn't have/offer a proper cocktail menu. Wine pairings were good & reasonably priced.
Great resto for a date with your significant other to celebrate important milestones, & the ambiance is low-key refined, but for the price you pay their cuisine left me slightly hungry & disappointed, hence only 4 stars for the food. Some of their courses & chosen taste profiles just didn't make sense to me, & I consider myself to have a refined palate & very flexible tastes... But their sommelier nailed their recommendation on wine pairing; their wine selections won't leave you disappointed.
Perfection 👌 top level cooking here. The quail pasta is a dish that will be remembered forever. Unbelievable wines here too, everything was blissful. The service was excellent too. Go for the tasting menu with wine pairing.😊
An absolutely exceptional meal from start to finish. The service was excellent; we had Mehdi as our waiter & he was wonderful, & Hugo, the sommelier, was highly experienced & each pairing was intelligently & carefully picked. It's a welcoming environment for anglophones as well, speaking as one :) I had the menu degustations- Miguel, the chef, changes it up often so I'll surely be back! Thank you H&B for a lovely night
