On y retourne. Les prix? Oui, assez cher, mais excellent rapport qualité/prix... Étoile 🌟 Michelin en bonus 🙂
Highly recommend 👍👌
This experience left much to be desired for the $380 price-tag for a 2 person tasting menu & 1 cocktail each + tax & tip.
We are a couple who travel alot, enjoy cafes, hearty food & the occasional wine & dine, however, as much as we wanted to like the dining experience, there were just a few aspects that we just can't admit were worth it, overall.
Starting with the good, the serving staff were kind, smiley & welcoming. & at no point in time, did I feel as if we had a particularly rude or negative interaction between the 5 or 6 waiters & waitresses that attended our table (I'll get back to this point).
The food was delicious, & not once did I have a bite where I thought negatively of the food, even rhubarb, which I normally do not like that much, was tolerable for me in the dessert sauce. They provided two complimentary dishes, one prior to designated entree & one after the designated dessert, which was appreciated.
The atmosphere was solid & the dining room is romantic & dimly lit, but well enough that the experience is still comfortable & easy to see. All staff were well dressed & presenting appropriately. Beyond this I can't reeaaaalllyyy recommend this experience, unless you WANT to eat at somewhere with a Michelin star.
Now with all due respect, I have critiques of this experience, which may all be personal, but were shared between my partner & I.
The cost to quantity of food ratio, for me was so disappointing. Comparatively, we've had multiple coursed dining menus in the past ranging from $75-140 per person, which at the higher end, matches the cost of food in this instance. The food taste & quality is on par with many other restaurants from places we've been in Asia & Australia, which is good! However, this is by far the smallest portion size per course, per dollar we've experienced. As you can see in the pictures shown, some of these portions are spoonfuls big in size. I'm an 80kg, 6ft, mid-twenties male with a decent appetite & this left me gravely unfulfilled & wanting more.
It also did not help that we sat down at 6:35pm-ish for our reservation & had the bill placed on the table in the middle of our complimentary dessert, over an entire 3 hours later at 9:35pm. The pacing between each course varied drastically, with some meals coming out within minutes of the last & the longest taking for what felt like 30-40 minutes. Following on from my previous point, this does not help with the whole satiation/satisfaction aspect as we were there for what felt like a pretty drawn out time.
Another point which we found odd was that the waiters & waitresses were kind & respectful, but we have 5 or 6 different people attending our table throughout our dining, aside from explaining the meals off of a script there was little interaction. In every other dining experience, we've had one waiting staff take us through our culinary journey & I think for me, that's a very important part of my overall experience. We also had some times where, because we had many different people coming to the table, we were missing that warmth from having one waiter or waitress & having small conversations with them. Again, I am comparing this to my previous experiences & this may not be a relevant point for other people, but I think it is important to note
Though, when we asked a waitress at the end about the restaurant, she did explain that it has become exponentially busier since receiving their Michelin star. So this might have some explanation about our particular experience.
Additionally, & a small note, we are from Australia visiting Canada for a month, exploring food options while we are here. The booking was made for both my fiancée's & my birthday as a surprise reservation on-behalf my fiancée's sister. We noticed that little celebration cakes with candles were taken around to tables throughout our dining time. Bit disheartening to not receive one of these after our experience.
From portion to pacing, we would likely choose not to dine here again or recommend it.
Food: 4,5/5. We had the tasting menu. Everything is excellent, from the starters to the desserts. Minus point is the steak with the beef being not very tender, juicy & sweet.
Service: the waiters were very attentive, careful & knowledgeable.
In short, the meal is worth the value & We loved the it.
From the moment my husband & I entered, Raja & his team made us feel welcome & cared for. It is hard to be away from our kids for our belated anniversary & the team anticipated our needs & surprised us with a complimentary anniversary delight as well as a tour of their coal-fire kitchen & beguiled us with the story of the founding farming families that the restaurant honours. In short, a remarkable place filled with equally remarkable people & wonderful food! We will bring our children here in future -as well as their grandparents who are watching them who will also value the restaurant's nod to tradition & elevated cuisine that the whole family will enjoy!
Montreal is sleeping on this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but it's more than worth it. My husband Adam & I did the tasting menu & the wine pairing (one of us did the Hoogan, & one of us did the Beaufort). Every dish was perfectly balanced, & the wine pairings were exceptional & so unique. I am pescatarian, & they easily accommodated my needs, despite not giving advanced notice on the reservation. Special shout out to Raja at the bar for making our anniversary meal extra special. His kindness & warmth made us feel right at home, & he has the bar fully under control. From cocktails, to local gin, & Montreal absinthe, he really showed us what the province has to offer. Another shout-out to Laurence for his deep knowledge of wine. It was such a treat to taste wines from lesser known/highlighted regions. This truly is the best restaurant we've tried in Montreal, & we cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much for the experience -- we can't wait to come back!
The service was fantastic, attentive & friendly. The food was delicious, well prepared & presented. The pasta, asparagus & bread were particularly great.
J'allais là en amoureuse avec moi même... Le service de Seb & de toute l'équipe fut complètement exemplaires, ils se sont ajustés à ma vibe & que dire de plus que WOW... J'ai failli pleurer de bonheur à chaque service!
