Review Summary

Henri Brasserie Française + Lounge is described as a stunning Parisian inspired venue in a historic setting near a central square, with high ceilings, warm lighting, and a chic yet welcoming atmosphere. The menu balances classic French brasserie dishes with seafood options, and many reviews praise items such as onion soup, escargots, tartare, duck, seafood pasta, and refined desserts like millefeuille and Paris Brest, though some meals are noted for being overpriced or not as flavorful as expected. Service is frequently described as attentive and friendly with knowledgeable staff and strong wine and cocktail lists, while a few visits mention rushed pacing, slow timing, or occasional lapses. The ambiance and setting are repeatedly highlighted as a standout, with praise for the elegant decor, lively yet not overly loud atmosphere, and suitability for celebrations, though a handful of guests found the noise, service inconsistencies, or dining value less satisfying. Overall the experience is viewed as memorable for lovers of French cuisine and architecture, with many recommending a visit for a refined brunch or dinner, while noting variability in value and consistency.

Would you like to overpay for mediocre food wrapped in a French name, paired with average service in a so-called'upscale' brasserie? Then you've found your spot.
The pricing suggests refinement; the execution does not. The food is forgettable, the atmosphere tries very hard, & the service suffers from a system where tips are pooled - which conveniently removes any real incentive for staff to care.
As for management, the tone is openly threatening. I personally heard a manager say:'I'll fire anyone who forgets to punch out.' That kind of leadership creates stress, not quality service. Staff are clearly interchangeable here, & it shows in the atmosphere.

Postscript (upon reading the owners response):
For clarity, my review is based on my experience as a customer. My wife & I dined at your restaurant as guests, & she also returned afterward - following my departure - where she was threatened by a member of your management team. These experiences stand entirely on their own & are unrelated to any employment matters.
It is therefore difficult to reconcile your reference to'transparency' with an attempt to discredit a customer's account by implying ulterior motives, while simultaneously refusing to address the facts raised. Readers can draw their own conclusions.

Beautiful restaurant. Typical French bistro menu. The salmon duo rillettes was very tasty. The chicken with morel sauce was nice & juicy. The Paris Brest is one of the best we've had.

Cool place as it's right by Philips square & connected to the hotel. The ceiling height is super high so creates a really nice atmosphere inside. Ordered the French onion soup, duck & the cuit chocolate. The soup was perfect for a cold night, would've been better if it was cheesier but still very good otherwise. The duck was great, a modest half serving was enough to leave room for dessert which was the cuit chocolate… super rich & sweet so you might want to split this dessert. Really nice place to dine out with a great ambiance.

Very fancy & classy Brasserie Francaise. Wonderful rapid & discreet service. Choices for lunch are wonderful & well done. Able to offer classic French Pub food in a high end environment & it's facing the beautiful Philip Square. Want to treat yourself to some luxury at lunch? This is the place.

Honestly was a bit disappointed with this place as I thought due to the prices & the numerous reviews it would've been way better. We had their lunch menu & ordered a French onion soup for appetizer, cheese burger & steak with fries. When the French onion soup arrived it was good! However we waited almost an hour after the soup to get our main dishes. I think two people who seated after us got their foods first & was able to leave before we got our plate. The cheese burger felt like an ordinary cheeseburger & only the steak was good but there wasn't a wow factor to it besides the butter. I feel like the steak could have more veggies or something to add more presentation to it besides just fries. They also somehow ran out of takeout containers so we couldn't bring home any leftovers…Overall, decent place but not thinking of coming back or recommending

Amazing experience! Very nice French atmosphere decor, & I had the home smoked salmon for appetizer & the famous Braised beef casserole for main entrée, was fabulous! I recommend!

If you would like an authentic French Canadian meal, this is the restaurant for you. Gorgeous decorative ceilings & spacious interior, but best of all, the food is magnificent. Save room for the Profiterole or Chocolate mousse.

This is a classic style French restaurant with all the different trappings that you expect of a classic French restaurant, including fancy wine & really cool cocktails & rich food designed specifically to maximize flavor & treat your palate to an experience. It won't forget. I got a white fish dish that was really delicious & paired very nicely

Save yourself the disappointment & go visit Monarque, Holder or L'Express instead. This place expensive because it's in a fancy hotel. The food is mediocre considering the price, the French fries came out cold, like come on... Don't get me wrong the food wasn't bad, however you expect much more considering we have so many amazing French restaurants in Montreal.

I took my teenaged son here for his first meal at a French restaurant since we were in town from Massachusetts. He loved it! For a kid who eats burgers & fries, I had him eating the beef tartare & enjoying it. Thank you for a pleasant meal with excellent service!

Beautiful, elegant restaurant with professional service standards, but the food was a fail. Ordered the special-of-the-day salmon tartare & it was anything but special. The french fries were cold & the raw salmon was warm & smelly. It took only one bite to know it was off. The waiter offered to replace it, but my guest was halfway through his meal & we were a bit rushed, so I declined. I would have paid, but they did not charge me for the salmon tartare. I won't be returning soon since the pungent smell of warm raw salmon has a way of staying with you for a while.

We made a reservation for a Saturday morning for 10 people. The lady on the phone was so nice & accommodating! The place is absolutely gorgeous, but the real gem is the staff!! Our waiter was so nice & patient! We exchanged English, French & smiles! We spent there more than 3 hours & nobody rush us, something that we all appreciated! They were also very accommodating in having separate bills. Portions are on the small side & it's not cheap, but the quality & the great atmosphere is what you really expect & get!! We will come back with our group for sure!

A beautiful upscale restaurant located inside the Birks Hotel right across from Phillips Square in Montreal.
Classic French flair with elevated twists. Went for a work lunch & the servings were generous but not overwhelming. Ordered the chèvre salad which was amazing. Warm
Goat cheese was served on a toasted baguette slice with endives & greens to accompany. Highly recommended especially for a midday meal.
Coffee was excellent & everyone drooled over the lemon tart. Will check out again for dinner menu.

Great oysters.

Food was okay, the oysters were really fresh & brioche really good but the avocado toast was tasteless, it was simply avocado on bread with no seasoning.

The waiters were good, quick & efficient, just as how french people should be.

The decor & architectures was french inspired, the roof architecture is well made but the rest was lacking. The plain body of the pillars did not seem like it was part of the show & & the decors a bit underwhelming. Take it with a grain of salt as it is my personal opinion, but it wasn't it for me.
