Review Summary

Gus is widely celebrated for its cozy, intimate atmosphere and consistently high-quality dining experience, earning praise as a top destination in the city. The menu is heavily focused on meat and features standout dishes like the signature Caesar salad, various expertly prepared steak cuts, and indulgent desserts. While the vast majority of visitors highlight the warm hospitality, knowledgeable staff, and well-curated wine list as reasons to return, some guests have noted the space is small and recommend advance reservations. Although the rich, flavorful preparation style is a major draw for most, a few diners have expressed varying preferences regarding the intensity of the sauces used in certain dishes. Overall, the restaurant maintains a strong reputation for delivering flavorful, hearty meals in a welcoming environment that makes both regulars and newcomers feel at home.

The salads/appetizers were 5, maybe 6 stars. As were the drinks/wine/beer. The mains were outdone by the appetizers, in my opinion. I love the atmosphere, that is a matter of personal taste, I like a little crowd & some energy. Cozy, artsy, cool. The restaurant & experience are authentic, brought by people who genuinely care about what they serve. Price was absolutely fair for the quality of the food, especially in today's market. Would go back.

Double date night with friends, I never heard of this place before. They seem to have their share of regulars at the bar, but the atmosphere was friendly & relaxed so we felt at home.
It's a small space, so I recommend booking in advance.
The menu is unapologetically meat based, with a bit of seafood. We had the onion soup & the rib steak. The soup was classic French but with a few twists, like avocado, which actually worked well, although the chucks could have been cut a bit smaller.
The steak was great, cooked to perfection & I loved the cheesey potatoes, which was a bold choice of side considering the steak had a fine amount of fat & topped with delicious compound butter. It was rich but oh so good, & the portions were generous. The desserts sounded good but we were stuffed.
I also really enjoyed the sauces available, not that my steak needed it. It's those sauces that make people think that this is a Tex Mex joint, but it's not. Just because there's Sriracha on the table doesn't make it a Thai restaurant 😜. The Kansas City style sweet sauce & the green vinegar based sauce were my favorites, but all 4 were solid.
Another thing worth mentioning was the wine list. Lots of private imports, from tried & true wine regions to more funky offerings. Good selection by the glass - including dessert wines - & cocktails, too.
The waistaff was cool, I liked that they knew their menu well, & helped out as a group to pick out our wine.
Prices are aligned with what a good night out costs these days, but I think there's good value here, & I would definitely recommend this place, unless you're vegetarian 😛

Incredible restaurant. Top. Finally went to Gus recently on a trip to Montreal & it was outstanding. The food is world class & the owner David is an incredible guy. Very small, cute space with an overload of quality food, drinks, wines, & experience. Personal favorites were the strawberry shortcake, the lamb (agneau), surf & turf, & the Cesar salad. Everything was impeccable though. Looking forward to many more visits au Restaurant Gus :).

Food is great! Very tasty, portions are really good! We took the ceasar salad as a starter & the surf & turf to share. They have a good option of wines. The service is really good as well, they were very attentive. I definitely recommend, I will return to try the other dishes.

Fantastic. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Exceptional natural wine selection as well.
