Le Garde Manger est une sorte de joyau culinaire qui, de prime abord, n'en présente pas les apparences. Il faut d'abord dénicher l'endroit, dans une ruelle quelque part près des quais du Vieux-Montréal. De plus, ce bistro sans prétention, situé près du centre des affaires, ne possède pas d'enseigne extérieure. Malgré tout, depuis son ouverture en juin 2006, il est devenu une adresse de choix auprès des professionnels branchés qui ont envie d'une cuisine de la Côte Est et d'une pinte de bière locale après une dure journée de travail.
Dans l’ensemble, les avis sur Garde Manger décrivent une expérience culinaire maritime exceptionnelle mêlant ambiance chaleureuse et service attentif. La cuisine est largement saluée pour sa fraîcheur, ses fruits de mer généreux et ses plats créatifs, présentés avec soin et équilibre. Three of us dined here on August 30th. Excellent wine selections, superb seafood platter, good vegetarian option & very tasty & fresh desserts. Our waitress Taylor was very quick & knowledgeable. Excellent service from other staff ensuring continuous care & service
Absolute top notch meal. The food is exceptional & the service is even better. Our host was warm & kind & funny, & our servers were knowledgeable & engaging. Our favourite was Emma, our bar server. She treated us like family & went the extra mile with everything. The food - they treat vegetables with the respect they deserve. All the food was sumptuous, but the veg for me was the pinnacle. Hubby would say the lobster & Japanese wagyu were the best. Both were excellent I'll concede. Go here. You'll love it.
Our 3rd time return after covid. Gone with their Chef Menu $120 per person & has been consistently tasty & creative. Good customer service & money worth definitely. Was honoured to be greeted by Chef Chuck making sure we have a positive experience & spending quality time with us.
Revisited in August 2025. Food is consistently great. Always look forward for their new creativity & that is why we are back. Thanks for your wonderful meal 🍽?
Got the chef's menu & the experience is immaculate. I loved the demi glace sauce in the duck breast course. Lobsters came with a brown butter dipping that was a nice touch too.
The dining experience at Garde Manger was superb, especially as a gluten free guest. Every staff member we interacted with was extremely professional, knowledgeable, welcoming, & a joy to speak to. We sat at the bar on the far end of the restaurant where seafood towers are assembled in front of you. I tried the heirloom tomatoes, octopus, French fries, swordfish, & chocolate cake. Every dish was certainly worth ordering again & we wished we booked both of our dinners in Montreal there for our quick trip. So happy to have found this gem & would recommend! I heard about this place. Booked a table months in advance. We ordered chef's tasting menu, it was the beat food I ever had...it didn't disappear...so yummy 😋. The meal ends with wonderful chocolate dessert.
We sat at the bar Friday night & Jean(I hope I spelt his name correctly) was a fantastic bartender & paired wines with our meal perfectly. & he made a great paper plane!!
What an amazing experience, from service to food. Emma was our bartender/ sever. She was amazing, she was very knowledgeable on food & beverage. Food was absolutely amazing. Will definitely come back & highly recommend this fabulous restaurant.
Better than Michelin 3 stars returants!! If you are tired of those overrated Michelin ones, try this low tone but very creative & beyound delicious restaurant ! Remember, the true food spirit is in the details! Bon Apepit!

The tasting menu is, in my opinion, an absolute must. It's a beautifully curated journey through inventive, seasonal flavors - each course more intriguing than the last. What sets the experience apart even further is their thoughtful wine pairing by the glass. The staff takes the time to match each pour perfectly with your food, enhancing the whole experience in a way that feels both refined & personal.
The service is always warm, professional, & genuinely welcoming. The team strikes that perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. They make you feel like a regular, even on your first visit.
In short: amazing food, impeccable pairings, & a staff that makes you want to come back again & again. A truly special place.
Stop scrolling through reviews & just make the reservation. This spot nails the balance between cozy & elevated. The atmosphere is warm & homey, yet stylish & full of character. It's vibey in the best way, with great music that adds to the experience without overpowering it.
I lucked out with a last-minute reservation & grabbed a solo seat at the bar. The staff were exceptional, welcoming, attentive, & happy to strike up a conversation. I opted for the tasting menu, & it was flawless from start to finish. Every dish was thoughtful & beautifully presented.
One standout was the seafood tower course - I'll be dreaming about it until I can come back.
I will recommend to anyone visiting Montreal & I'll 100% be returning.
Excellent souper au bar alors que j'étais seul. Le barman était sympathique & la nourriture exceptionnelle. J'ai opté pour le menu du chef & j'ai eu plus de services que ce que je pouvais manger. Mais comme ils étaient tous délicieux, je les ai tous mangé :-). Le restaurant n'est pas si facile à trouver si on n'a pas l'adresse exacte. Il est nommé dans le guide Michelin mais à mes yeux il aurait mérité une étoile.
