It sounds like an exaggeration but it was true. Both of us agreed that we had never truly understood how a dish could be'perfectly balanced' until this meal. We had the chef's menu (second tier) & every dish was delicious & was plenty of food (I am a hungry man & often find'fancy' restaurant meals don't satisfy me but this was certainly not the case). We went to another nice restaurant the following night & it was good, but could not be compared to this meal. All of the service staff were also incredibly kind & attentive, & were accommodating of my fiancée's gluten allergy. Our drinks (beer, wine, & cocktails) were all exceptional as well. A dinner we will not forget!
We really enjoyed our dinner here. Food was absolutely fantastic. The service was friendly & very attentive. Cannot wait to return! C'est Magnifique!
We knew the meal was going to be fantastic even before we got in. Two separate groups told us the food was excellent as they made their way out, & we made our way in. We had two appetizers, & two mains split between two people, & this was a good amount of food for us. Each dish was quite frankly amazing. The seafood was delicious, & we did have a non-alcoholic cocktail which was tart, but incredibly well balanced. The cherry on top of all the great food was the attentive & fun service from Felix & Taylor. We felt incredibly attended to, & we left with our bellies full. What more could you want?
Had an outstanding dinner here with my husband & a friend visiting from LA. The venue is warm, cozy, & intimate. The host/ maitre'd, Nicholas gave us a warm welcome, shook our hands, & promptly seated us to a lovely seat in the front. The waiter was exceptional- professional, prompt, & attentive. The food is superb & the drinks were great! This place is a MUST!!!
My fiancée & I went for a celebration dinner & this was one of our best culinary experiences ever. The chefs table menu is worth it. The care & attention the serving team offers is second to none. They work as a team & are beyond attentive. Our interaction with everyone was personable & extremely pleasant. The creative & artistic approach to the menu was nothing short of perfection. Chuck the Garde Manger was everything we hoped it would be & then some. Worth the 4 hour drive & we will be back.
Extremely attentive service , welcome staff & amazing attention to details. the spicing & slicing & cooking was out of this world as an experienced world traveller eating in the best restaurant around the world this is way up there.
I've been coming here for years, & it never disappoints. The quality is always outstanding, & the creativity in every dish continues to surprise & impress me. It's one of those rare places where you feel the passion in every bite.
The tasting menu is, in my opinion, an absolute must. It's a beautifully curated journey through inventive, seasonal flavors - each course more intriguing than the last. What sets the experience apart even further is their thoughtful wine pairing by the glass. The staff takes the time to match each pour perfectly with your food, enhancing the whole experience in a way that feels both refined & personal.
The service is always warm, professional, & genuinely welcoming. The team strikes that perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. They make you feel like a regular, even on your first visit.
In short: amazing food, impeccable pairings, & a staff that makes you want to come back again & again. A truly special place.
Stop scrolling through reviews & just make the reservation. This spot nails the balance between cozy & elevated. The atmosphere is warm & homey, yet stylish & full of character. It's vibey in the best way, with great music that adds to the experience without overpowering it.
I lucked out with a last-minute reservation & grabbed a solo seat at the bar. The staff were exceptional, welcoming, attentive, & happy to strike up a conversation. I opted for the tasting menu, & it was flawless from start to finish. Every dish was thoughtful & beautifully presented.
One standout was the seafood tower course - I'll be dreaming about it until I can come back.
I will recommend to anyone visiting Montreal & I'll 100% be returning.
We sat at the bar & had an incredible & memorable dining experience from start to finish. The space has a charming & welcoming feel that immediately puts you at ease. The menu is thoughtful & well-executed. The duck, in particular, was outstanding - complemented by the beets & bigarade sauce. Our server & bartender, Jihan, was attentive & personable, striking the perfect balance of care & professionalism. You can feel the intention behind every detail. So glad we came across this gem of a restaurant during our visit to Montreal!
Short version: We paid $800 (tax & tip inc.) for a dinner for two & left hungry - got Domino's pizza after. Was it tasty? Yes. But miniature portions at a very steep price. Lovely staff & nice menu but portions too small.
Long version:
It was my birthday dinner, & I had heard many great things about this place. I also love Chuck Hughes' sundried tomato chili oil, so I was really excited to try his restaurant. My boyfriend & I reserved for dinner, & when we made the reservation, the option was a tasting menu, so we opted for that at the moment of the reservation. When we arrived, the waitress explained to us that there are multiple'tiers' to the tasting menu, going from tier 1 to tier 4, & she hyped it up so much & specified that for tier 4, you'have to be hungry'. We were starving & very excited to eat, so we opted for tier 4. It was priced at 275$ per person, so we were ready to feast.
The plates started coming, & they were very, very tasty. However, we started worrying about the portion sizes as the dinner went by, because we were realizing that the courses were coming & going & we were just having enough for one bite or two. Unfortunately, as we feared, we finished the night & could have easily eaten 3 times the amount of food that was served to us.
Highlights:
- Delicious cocktails. I really enjoyed the cocktails. The mixologist was really great because all the flavours paired perfectly.
- The waiters were kind & attentive. My glass of water was always refilled.
- The food was delicious.
Cons:
- Portions were very small. We were still hungry at the end of all that tier 4 multi-course meal.
- Extremely loud restaurant (did not bother me but pointing it out in case people are looking for quiet)
- The price we paid did not justify the food quantity, as we then went on to get pizza takeout.
Overall, I would love this restaurant if the portions were bigger. I would go back because the taste was great, but I would not get the tasting menu because it's too expensive for simply too little food. I don't know what the price is per item but the gnocchi was delicious. I would have wanted an entire plate of it. So, be mindful & eat beforehand, or bring snacks for after if you go because you might still be hungry.
Honourable mention to the staff who were all super kind & attentive. My birthday was nice.
Really strong program. Very attentive service. Recommend the tasting.
Push, push, push.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Truly Unforgettable Experience at Garde Manger - A Must-Visit in Montreal!
Where do I even begin? Dining at Garde Manger in Montreal was nothing short of extraordinary, & it's an experience I'll be talking about for years to come.
From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere was buzzing - lively yet cozy, with a warm, rustic charm that made us feel welcome right away. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, & the energy of the place immediately set the tone for what would become a phenomenal evening.
Let's talk service: absolute perfection. Our server was not only friendly & attentive, but incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They walked us through the specials, offered great recommendations, & somehow struck the perfect balance between professional & personable. Water glasses were never empty, courses were timed beautifully, & every request was handled with ease & care. It felt like they genuinely wanted us to enjoy every minute - & we did.
Now, onto the food… wow. Every dish was a masterpiece - both in flavor & presentation. You can tell there's passion & precision behind every plate. We started with the oysters, which were fresh & briny, served perfectly chilled with all the right accompaniments. The lobster poutine is every bit as decadent & delicious as you'd imagine - rich, comforting, & absolutely unforgettable. For mains, we had the duck confit & the sea bass - both cooked to absolute perfection, with layers of flavor that lingered in the best way possible. & of course, we couldn't leave without dessert - the sticky toffee pudding was the perfect sweet finish.
& then… the highlight of the night: meeting Chuck Hughes himself! What an incredible & down-to-earth guy. He came out of the kitchen with that unmistakable smile & took time to chat with us. It's rare to see a chef of his caliber so present & engaged, & it made our experience feel even more special. You can tell his heart is in this restaurant, & it shows in every aspect - from the menu to the vibe to the team behind it all.
If you're visiting Montreal - or even if you live here - Garde Manger is a must-visit. It's not just a restaurant, it's an experience: vibrant, memorable, & filled with culinary joy. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for an incredible night out, you owe it to yourself to come here.
Thank you to the entire team for a night I'll never forget. I'll absolutely be back - & bringing friends with me next time!
The best dining experience ever. Our server Dave felt like an old friend. The staff was so incredibly attentive & caring. The food was incredible, the cocktails & dessert were fantastic.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Garde Manger in Montreal, & I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The restaurant's ambiance perfectly blends rustic charm with a vibrant energy that makes it feel both intimate & lively. The food was outstanding-a true testament to the skill & creativity of the chefs. Every dish was beautifully presented & bursting with flavour. Highlights for me included the fresh oysters, which were impeccably served, & the scallops that were cooked to perfection, accompanied by a deliciously balanced sauce. The dessert, especially the tiramisu, was the perfect end to an unforgettable meal. Equally impressive was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations for both food & wine pairings. Their professionalism & warmth added to the overall experience, making me feel genuinely welcome. Garde Manger is a must-visit for anyone looking for top-tier dining in Montreal. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this is a spot where you'll not only enjoy an incredible meal but also leave with a memorable dining experience. I can't wait to return!
Their food is very innovative. Something I have never had in other restaurants. Great atmosphere. The server who attended us was very attentive & patient. Great experience. Idk why there's no Michelin star restaurant in Montreal, but this place would be at least one star in my opinion.
Hands down, the BEST culinary experience I've ever had! My friends & I had the chef's 4 course menu, & every single bite was absolutely exquisite. You can tell that every element of each dish was well perfected & treated with such care. The atmosphere was lively & joyful & the service was quick, highly attentive & detail oriented. 10/10 recommend & can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Montreal. It's a can't miss experience.
The ingredients were all fresh & well-prepared, but the sauces on each dish were truly outstanding! We made a last-minute reservation, so only bar seats were left, & at first, we were a little disappointed. However, the bartender who prepared our seafood plate kept us entertained the whole time-he was quite the entertainer. He was very attentive to all the customers, & I'm sure he would be more discreet with groups having serious conversations. On top of that, every server & host was super friendly, making us fall in love with this place. We'll definitely be back!
Our waitress was super attentive & energetic & gave us great suggestions. We would have never ordered the lamb croquettes without her recommendation. The food was unbelievable! We would definitely come back. Small portions was the only downside, but because of how flavourful food was, we were not upset. Instead we grabbed crapes elsewhere on the old town after!!
