Le Garde Manger est une sorte de joyau culinaire qui, de prime abord, n'en présente pas les apparences. Il faut d'abord dénicher l'endroit, dans une ruelle quelque part près des quais du Vieux-Montréal. De plus, ce bistro sans prétention, situé près du centre des affaires, ne possède pas d'enseigne extérieure. Malgré tout, depuis son ouverture en juin 2006, il est devenu une adresse de choix auprès des professionnels branchés qui ont envie d'une cuisine de la Côte Est et d'une pinte de bière locale après une dure journée de travail.
Dans l’ensemble, les avis sur Garde Manger décrivent une expérience culinaire maritime exceptionnelle mêlant ambiance chaleureuse et service attentif. La cuisine est largement saluée pour sa fraîcheur, ses fruits de mer généreux et ses plats créatifs, présentés avec soin et équilibre. This was likely the single best meal we have ever had. Everything - from the moment we sat down until we left - was immaculate. The service was incredible (our waters never bordered on empty, our table was always cleaned, & we were even given a moist towel at one point between courses). We did the level 2 chefs tasting menu, plus the snow crab, & I'd say it was worth the upgrade. The lobster caviar was incredible, while the snow crab almost brought us both to tears. Every other dish was varying levels of great to fantastic, & the wine/cocktails were also excellent. Truly, everything was immaculate. In particular, the pacing with which the dishes came out deserves a special shoutout - we were never waiting, & once we started to slow down, the dishes did, too, to give us time. Absolutely recommend this place. High-end dining, but you will not leave hungry!
Food, service & atmosphere were a 15/10. Creative, non pretentious & well worth the money. The food was phenomenal & the service was equally impressive. The experience exceeded our expectations & I highly recommend Garde Manger.

Wow, wow, wow was this place FANTASTIC!!! My husband & I were lucky enough to stumble upon this cute, cozy, charming restaurant. There are no signs, so we just went in & gave it a shot. We just saw a performance at the Centaur Theatre up the street & walked by. I noticed the fireplace through the window & saw it as quite lively for almost 10pm on a cold Wednesday evening. We entered with a friendly greeting by David, who sat us at the end of the bar bc all tables were taken. The restaurant is intimate, warm, & cozy. The lovely bartender, Emma, was amazing! She was professional, personable, & took great care of us, which really added to the dining experience. She walked us through the menu, suggested options, made exceptional drinks, all with a warm & friendly demeanor. Being a seafood specialty restaurant, we ordered all seafood. We ordered 3 starters (tuna, arctic char, & snow crab), & 1 main (swordfish), & focaccia bread. Every bite was exceptional! We were in seafood heaven! I HIGHLY recommend & look forward to our next visit.
Très bonne expérience au restaurant Garde Manger hier soir. Je n'avais pas trop d'attentes mais j'ai été agréablement surprise. Nous avons pris le menu dégustation 5 services. Le menu était très copieux & de très bonne qualité. Il ne s'agit pas d'un restaurant de fruits de mer ordinaire, la cuisine y est raffinée & les plats originaux. Le service était impeccable, malgré que le restaurant était très occupé. La femme à l'entrée qui semblait être la gérante s'assure que tout se déroule bien dans son commerce. La barmaid s'est aussi bien occupé de nous, étant donné que nous étions assis au bar. C'est un restaurant assez dispendieux mais en vaut la peine pour les foodies. Je recommande!
Garde Manger exceeded expectations. Every bite was delicious across all the courses & the cocktails were incredible. Highly recommend the Pour Georgette. Food wise, we absolutely loved the octopus appetizer & the combination of ingredients in the sea bass. The coffee cake was an amazing way to top off the meal. My only complaint - I wish the focaccia was warm :)
Visiting from the US for 1 night, needed a bite to eat & had a couple locals recommend Old Montreal area. Came across this place as an option based on the vibe, food, & historic feel. It did not disappoint. Delicious food, great vibe, & a memorable evening. The service was fantastic, fun, & sincere. Would love to come back someday. Thanks Julian & team!
Hands down, the BEST culinary experience I've ever had! My friends & I had the chef's 4 course menu, & every single bite was absolutely exquisite. You can tell that every element of each dish was well perfected & treated with such care. The atmosphere was lively & joyful & the service was quick, highly attentive & detail oriented. 10/10 recommend & can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Montreal. It's a can't miss experience.

An exquisite meal in Montreal. My partner & I picked a handful of dishes to share so we could get a good sampling of what the restaurant had to offer. We loved every bite! Would highly recommend the albacore tuna with capers, the wild mushrooms & the focaccia is unbelievable.
All I can say is... W O W. What an amazing meal & experience at this restaurant, from the staff to the quality of ingredients used to the delicious smelling candles in the washroom. The attention to detail from all angles was nothing short of amazing. My boyfriend & I went with the tier 1 tasting menu & we left feeling full & beyond impressed with our experience. The food was out of this world delicious & the service was that much better. We were sat at the oyster bar, where Julian was incredibly knowledgeable & explained each aspect of the meal & course with great detail & charisma. He answered all our questions with humour & genuine enthusiasm & it is clear he truly loves what he does (& oh boy is he good at it!). He went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable & made our time there that much more memorable. Strongly recommend this restaurant, can't wait to come back. We felt so special & are already planning our next visit to Garde Manger.

Tried the table d'hôte at Garde Manger in December 2023, & it was a feast for our eyes & palates. The seafood platter was beautiful & had an amazing selection, everything was super fresh. We enjoyed the lobster "pogos", as well as the grilled octopus & fish with brussel sprouts. The white truffle & pecorino pasta was tasty, yet not the favourite truffle pasta we've had. Service was efficient & friendly, & price was acceptable for such a meal, although we recommend coming with a big appetite if you plan to order this six course meal!
Absolutely amazing experience food wise, in terms of service (these guys are just top notch) & atmosphere. Highly recommend!! We had mussels, tomatoes, salmon, beets, octopus. Everything was unique, flavorful & just perfectly served. These guys know what they're doing.
Garde Manger was a world class restaurant. Food, service, atmosphere - couldn't really be significantly better. We sat at the bar, & the bartender was knowledgeable about everything on the menu, gave great recommendations, & made delicious drinks for us. I can't recommend it enough. We had a bit from each portion of the menu, but my favorites were the crab toast & the coffee cake dessert. Everything was great though. It is on the expensive side, but totally worth it. It's the kind of place that I'll be sure to return to every chance I get.
During a visit to Montreal, I had hoped to revisit Restaurant Le Diplomate, but upon learning of its closure, we opted for Garde Manger on a friend's recommendation. We tried the chef's menu, & each dish was a flavorful treat for my palate. The service was warm, helpful, & courteous. The fun playlist added to the lively atmosphere. The oysters were irresistible, perhaps the best I've ever had! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Lors d'une visite à Montréal, j'avais espéré retourner au Restaurant Le Diplomate, mais en apprenant sa fermeture, nous avons opté pour Garde Manger sur recommandation d'un ami. Nous avons essayé le menu du chef, & chaque plat était un véritable délice pour les papilles. Le service était chaleureux, serviable & courtois. La musique était très agréable & l'ambiance générale excellente. Les huîtres étaient irrésistibles, peut-être les meilleures que j'ai jamais goûtées !
I travel extensively for work & this is my upmost favourite restaurant. The best service, food & atmosphere by far!! The staff & food are absolutely incredible!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.
