Review Summary

Freddi is described as a beautiful restaurant with great food and drinks, and the service is consistently excellent with thoughtful recommendations from the staff. The menu features standout items like yakitori duck breast and hand rolls, while the wagyu tartare is noted as a touch salty; a reduced menu still offers a variety of flavors to delight. Handcrafted cocktails with premium ingredients are a highlight, and the overall experience is described as elegant, cozy, and memorable, with the ambiance and attentive service often praised. Even when a table is small or tucked away, the team helps pace the courses so that dishes arrive harmoniously and the experience stays comfortable. The hand rolls are a must try and many reviewers would definitely recommend Freddi for a refined night out, including families and groups.

I visited Freddi on a Thursday night in early May with my fancy foodie friend Farzy… she loves a good expensive dinner & I'm always down to try a new restaurant.

The interior has this dark, elegant atmosphere. Curved velvet chairs, marble tables, dim lighting… definitely the kind of place that makes you feel trendy & cool.

Freddi is fusion Japanese with an izakaya-style menu built around sharing plates, which honestly made the whole experience more fun. We shared everything & ranked our favorites after every bite.

Our server Ishmael was really warm & attentive throughout the night, which helped balance out the upscale atmosphere & made everything feel comfortable instead of intimidating.

To drink, I ordered the Umekage cocktail with rhubarb tequila, plum liqueur, vermouth rouge, lime, & black balsamic vinegar. It was nicely balanced… fruity, slightly deep, & easy to sip slowly through dinner.

One of the standout dishes for me was the Oscietra caviar & maguro toast with sea urchin butter. Definitely a splurge at $56… but honestly? It completely melted in your mouth. Rich, buttery, salty in the best way.

We also shared the hamachi & maguro sashimi duo with maple ponzu vinaigrette & wasabi aioli. I personally preferred the lighter-colored sashimi because it tasted more delicate & buttery to me, but both were super fresh & beautifully prepared.

The Connoisseur temaki hand rolls were probably my favorite part of the meal overall. The lobster & capers crumble hand roll immediately won me over… sooo good. The tuna sashimi with braised shiitake was a close second, followed by the hamachi sashimi with caviar.

Freddi feels like a great dinner spot for a date night… share plates, sip cocktails slowly, & romanticize being in Montréal on a random Thursday night.

I'm just a foodie & travel lover who enjoys trying new places & experiences & sharing them along the way. If you like scrapbook-style posts & discovering spots like this, come hang out with me on TikTok @foxy.appetite & IG @foxyappetite 🫶
