Highly recommend the sesame bagels which are always the freshest. Note that you either need cash or if your purchase is over $10 then you can use a Canadian debit card (no credit cards, no international cards)
I have been coming around 6:30am for a couple of days & unfortunately the fresh bagel selections are sparse (usually only one or two types are hot out of the oven). For morning risers who want a fresh bagel, you probably need to come a little later in the day! Staff are very helpful & friendly though. I needed change to buy bus tickets & they gladly exchanged some coins for me.
The best bagel I've had in my life! There was a short line but it moved fairly quickly. Best way to enjoy is to pick them up & head to a nearby park to savour it! The sesame bagel & garlic bagel were the highlight. So fresh & worth the visit! Will definitely be back when I visit Montreal again!
The rosemary bagel wasn't fresh. I was disappointed. The sesame is always fresh. Great service though!
Best bagels in the world. I'm from NYC & I will stand by this statement till my grave. I first visited Fairmount when visiting in 2017 & when returning in 2025, I made sure to visit again. I was so excited by the warm fresh bagel that I didn't even put cream cheese on it. It was delicious on its own!
Best bagels in town! Always a fresh wide variety no matter at what time of the day you go.
After hearing countless glowing recommendations-hundreds, perhaps thousands-I finally made my way to one of Montreal's most beloved bagel institutions, tucked away in a modest, no-frills corner of the city. From the moment you approach, the warm, sweet scent of freshly baked dough draws you in like a beacon. This isn't your average bakery-it's a tiny, bustling hub of bagel-making magic, with trays of golden rings stacked high & ovens firing in full rhythm.
We picked up a variety of bagels: everything, garlic, onion, & the intriguingly named'Bozo'-each one a unique expression of this iconic Montreal staple. There's no indoor seating, so we took our warm paper bag, along with tubs of cream cheese & jam, & enjoyed it from the comfort of our car parked just outside. Honestly? It only added to the charm.
Now, let's talk about those bagels. They were soft, chewy, & still warm to the touch-the texture right where you want it: dense without being heavy, with just the right bite. The garlic bagel quickly emerged as my personal favorite, unapologetically bold & aromatic. Yes, it left me with a garlic-forward breath, but let me be clear-it was absolutely worth it. The everything bagel offered a perfectly balanced medley of seeds & seasoning, while the onion had a subtle sweetness & deep flavor that grew with each bite. The Bozo was a bit of a wildcard-mysterious & slightly sweet, possibly cinnamon-spiced-surprisingly delightful.
There's something wonderfully nostalgic about standing in line with locals & tourists alike, all eagerly waiting for that fresh dozen, watching the bakers work in full view. It's not polished or fancy, but that's exactly the point. This place doesn't need bells & whistles. It's pure, authentic, bagel perfection.
Final word: If you're in Montreal-whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth-do not leave without making a stop here. Yes, there's a line. No, there's no seating. But take it from me: one bite, & you'll understand why people keep coming back for more. It's the kind of experience that reminds you how simple food, made with care & tradition, can be absolutely unforgettable.
love how accessible & convenient it is to get freshly baked bagel at 4:30 in the morning! & they were really good!
Fantastic bagels! I got freshly made sesame bagels, & they were still warm when I had them - mind-blowing. I personally liked them even more than New York bagels
Warm & fresh bagels. We loved the sesame & bozo bagels. They only take cash or debit card just fyi.
Long wait, Bagels are not super fresh & warm like I had expected. They do not take credit cards & the staff are not super helpful at all. Overall, I was happy to have experienced it, I would shop here regularly if I lived in the are, a good business t open near here would be a cafe with toasters & tables to use to eat your bagel. The bagel was amazing though.
Royal customer here for over two decades.
I might be wrong but the size getting slightly smaller than before?!
Their fresh chewy sesame bagel & the smoked salmon from New Victoria fish is a best marriage
Today's bagel is a sesame bagel from Fairmount in Montreal. This was decent… I really wish it was toasted with the cream cheese, or fresher because it had the potential to be amazing. I was going to get some to bring home so I could try but I won't be in that area again unfortunately. The bagel had a light interior but I felt it could have had a better crisp around the outside. Flavour was nice with a subtle sweetness but the eating experience left something to be desired. I had another untoasted bagel from St-Viateur after this & the texture was way more enjoyable. Seeds fell everywhere which I didn't appreciate. I'm sure these bagels are very good when you prepare them at home & I know that's really their specialty. For my eating experience, 7.7/9 bagels.

Fairmount Bagel truly lives up to its legendary status. The combination of perfectly made bagels, locally sourced cream cheese, & smoked salmon from Quebec made my delicious food creations shine. If you haven't tried them yet, it is a must-visit for anyone in Montreal - whether you're enjoying them traditionally or experimenting with new recipes!

In depth review:
As a food blogger, I couldn't resist celebrating National Bagels & Lox Day with some of Montreal's best from Fairmount Bagel. Their bagels are iconic, chewy, & baked to perfection in a wood-fired oven, making them the perfect base for creative recipes. I made two unique bagel creations using their fresh, local ingredients:
1. Cranberry Delight Bagel
I started with their cranberry bagel for a subtle sweetness, paired with a creamy goat cheese spread, topped with smoked salmon, caramelized onions, & arugula. A drizzle of balsamic reduction added a perfect balance of sweet & savory. The fresh Quebec smoked salmon was the highlight, bringing everything together beautifully.
2. Lox Caprese Bagel
For something lighter & more colorful & fun, I used one of there limited edition Canada bagels, spread with Canadian cream cheese, & topped with smoked salmon, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, & a drizzle of olive oil. I finished it with salt, pepper, & fresh basil (or basil pesto for an extra kick). The result was a fresh, Mediterranean-inspired bite that was light & flavorful.
Fairmount Bagel delivers on all fronts. The bagels are simply some of the best you'll find in Montreal, & the ability to customize with local products like cream cheese & smoked salmon makes for a top-tier meal. Whether you're a local or a tourist, it's a must-visit for anyone wanting to try authentic Montreal bagels. The service is friendly, & the nostalgic atmosphere adds to the charm of the place.

Freshly baked has a wide variety of bagels my favorite one the sesame yami yami.
Delicious bagels ! You can taste a touch of honey. Always warm & fresh out of the oven. Nice selection. Sesame seeds a must try.
I think this is the best bagel in Montreal! Line moves quickly, & fresh bagels available 24/7. Just sad that they don't have a sit down area & don't make any spread sandwiches for you.
I walked three kilometers from downtown Montreal to Fairmount for some breakfast bagels. It was a nice walk, & absolutely worth it. Here at Fairmount you get freshly baked bagels, with cream cheese & marmalade (Bonne Maman). I enjoyed every bite of the bagels I took. Nice consistency, soft interior, & perfect with the toppings. Prices are amazing, service friendly. Card payment from 10$. Sensational, & must for every bagel lover visiting Montreal!
Fantastic bagels. We ordered them via Door Dash & they showed up still warm from being baked. The everything bagel is amazing. Super fresh & a must try
