Although the food, service & ambiance were great, we were disappointed, as we went for particular desserts, & 2 of 4 desserts ordered were not available. The prices are just exorbitant & the quality or presentation isn't what you would expect for price. Also, our table was very wobbly, which seems to also not go with such an expensive place... the servers were very gracious in fixing everything with a smile, but really, when you are having hot coffee... the last thing you want is a wobbly table where your hot drink can call.... especially again for the price paid!
We honestly won't go back because it's just too pricey to be disappointed....Voir plus
Probably one of the more expensive brunches I've had. I can see a lot of desire to get things right. the service was what made this not a 5 star. It wasn't flawless but if you are charging me that kind of money, I want flawless. My table was not ready, but I saw empty tables... at 9AM in the morning. it was not peak time. They had three times (3 times) crashes of plates & glasses falling to the ground. sure....It happens, sure, but three times? We ordered coffee, one came out early & the other took a lot of time time...the less complicated one to make as well. they just didn't read the room correctly. there was plenty of staff (plenty!). I made a reservation, we had to wait at the bar...it was cold in the area because the door was open....& I didn't get a warm beverage drink. We ordered the lobster benedict & the filet mignon benedict. It tasted great. the dining hall is tight & the service staff looked new & nervous. it showed. Parking was a breeze though.Voir plus
Very poor service, we waited 1hr 40min for our food to arrive & we waited 50min for cappuccino (coffee was stone cold when served), we asked for salt & pepper when our food arrived but it never came. It would have been nice to receive a complementary dish or snack as a way of apologizing for the wait or for during the long wait but that did not happen.
Food was okay overall, I had the omlette & it was good but it did not blow me away, it needed more chilli & seasoning, the potatoes were very good. The portion was good but the food is quite pricy (this is subjective & my personal opinion)
We sat outside & it was quite nice, kind of cramped but it was nice overall. It was a disappointing experience, this was our first & last time coming here.Voir plus
Ordered a simple macchiato , they gave me a very tall coffee Americano style which was clear in color , I let the waitress know this was not what I ordered (their coffee is almost 7$ + , should be decent & correct) , no one seemed to understand what it is I ordered however it is on the menu , took 3 attempts until I just asked for a regular espresso. Pastries ordered were not what was received , it is as if the waitress just decided what we should order, they pastries are surely frozen & cooked on site because they are terrible. . Bill was 70$ for 1 tea , 3 pastries & an espresso. Would not recommend.Voir plus
Duc de Lorraine offers a delightful escape to France without ever leaving the city. The ambiance is cozy yet elegant, with charming decor that instantly sets the mood for a Parisian experience. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the pastries. Their croissants are buttery, flaky perfection, & the selection of desserts is nothing short of exquisite. Pairing these with their rich, smooth coffee makes for a divine treat. Service is warm & attentive, adding to the overall experience. While prices are on the higher side, the quality & authenticity of the food justify it. Highly recommended!Voir plus
Overall, excellent meal, coffee, dessert, & service. I will definitely go again. Highly recommend.Voir plus
MUST TRY This French pastry shop & restaurant is a must try in montreal! The only negative thing I would add & this is why I give it a 4 star rating is because of how slow they are to bring out 3 already made dessert & two coffees! But if you have time to sit & wait, do try this place out!Voir plus
Awesome pastries & coffee. Claudia, Iris & the rest of the staff bring good joy & vibes to the restaurant! All with a great view of Saint Joseph's OratoryVoir plus
the food was perfect, the coffee quality is great coming from a coffee snob. service & ambiance was just amazing. we were there for a birthday brunch & the team sang for us 5/5.Voir plus
We were a party of 2 & ordered Berry Mojito mocktails to start, then had the Benedictine au crabe & Dejeuner du chef followed by the Eclair creme Chantilly & Cheesecake exotique with an Americano & an Iced coffee. The service was excellent & the food was divine. Will need to return to try other items!Voir plus
I have been fortunate to receive as a gift recently, the most delicious pastries from this renown bakery! They are indeed scrumptious & yummy next day too. This location is a gem, it's the heart of the Cote des Nieges area, & it has the highest quality pastries that never disappoint👍. I have been a client myself for 50 years...picking up baked goods & delicious quiches since my early 20's. Everything is exceptional! I have lunched on their terrace with friends &, I have enjoyed coffee hour there too. A visit is essential whether you are a tourist or a local, or traveling through the area, heading to the multiple surrounding tourist areas in the vicinity. Do stop in!Voir plus
I dont know of many places you can sip a coffee with wonderful pastries & a staff that is so attentive in a location like this. Clear 5 stars & if there was a 6th star Id give it. Thanks for your service AndrewVoir plus
Instagram advertisement was pretty intriguing. Headed there for breakfast/ brunch. The morning was slightly chillier for end of June. The restaurant had outdoor heaters available. The place was packed. Reservation should be made ahead of time. Food, presentation, restaurant cleanliness were outstanding. They have dangerous amount of pastries here. Prepare for hard choice to make. Coffee refill was suggested. We were pleasantly surprised. Our server was either new or on training. However, entire team had been taking care of our table. Paid parking on the street is possible.Voir plus
$45 for spaghetti? $30 for an onion soup? You've got to be kidding me They lost my drink (twice), forgot to give me water, & I still left paying $30 for a pastry & a coffee. Nice atmosphere but save your money & use it to go to 10 alternative places. You'll be far happier that you did.Voir plus
The pastries are a must try. Their croissants remind me of the ones I had in the south of France. If you're visiting the Oratory & you're looking for a coffee & pastry stop, Duc de Lorraine is your go-to 👌Voir plus
Great croissants & pastries very well run & they have one of the best coffees in montrealVoir plus
Food was ok for the price point. Not great or bad but just ok. For the price they charge, I expect something extraordinary. 45$ for a basic 2 egg, back & bread is outrageous, especially when it looks like something I can get for half price at any ordinary breakfast place. BUT their pastries are amazing. The new york croissant was flaky & buttery & the pistachio filling had a very nice deep flavor profile. I would come back for their pastries & coffee storefront, not so much for their brunch.Voir plus
Went for a business meeting. Great coffee & CroissantsVoir plus
The food was amazing l, great also for coffee & dessert! Merci, Rafaad pour votre excellent service, au plaisir de vous revoir bientôt!Voir plus
We only had coffee & desserts. The coffee was great. The dessert presentation was fantastic but I wasn’t impressed by the taste. My crème brûlée needed a more intense vanilla flavour. The service was satisfactory.Voir plus
The service was so slow. We waited so long to be served water & coffees & any time we needed simple things like salt, pepper, ketchup, it took 15minutes to receive. The food was hot once it arrived, that was positive, however it lacked salt & flavor. Very expensive for a mediocre brunch at best. The terrace was beautiful & atmosphere quite nice. The music they play for birthdays is extremely loud & quite long & off putting. I would go back for their pastries but not for brunch.
Visiting was a must do thing while in Montréal! All people were super nice & friendly. Best coffee & food we have had in a long time. Look forward to coming back.
Visited Duc for the first time, the food was exceptional & the staff was pleasant. Highly recommend for a quick coffee or a meal. They have delicious pastries. I had to try the crème brûlée donut which was worth every calorie haha. For breakfast I had the ham & cheese croissant which was so tasty. Finished off with an espresso. Enjoy!!
We have been coming to this restaurant for weekend brunch whenever we're in Montréal for over 7 years now. The restaurant is always busy on the weekend which I love. Plenty of great energy & laughs in the air. The food & coffee is always excellent. They also have bottomless mimosas!
Service was terrible. There were only 7 people dining breakfast in the restaurant & the service was slow, did not contain everything we ordered & had to ask 3-4 times just for coffee. Our guest from the US could not order her food because there wasn't even one English menu.
We have been going to Duc de Lorraine since the 60s & it was a real gem! Service was impeccable, pastries & sandwiches were exquisite so much that it became a tradition to us. Yesterday we went around 5:30pm just for a pastry & coffee. We didn't want to spoil dinner so we also ordered a bagel & cream cheese (yes, it WAS on the menu). We were told this was for breakfast only. We had to wait about 15 minutes to have the menus. After our order, we waited about half an hour for the pastry. No shortage of staff so there was no reason to be "ignored" & stalled. In looking at the menu, though, the prices seemed to have quadrupled over the last few years. They try to transform it into a scandalizing expensive place (hamburger about $18, chicken caesar about $26, etc.). Years ago it was much, much better, & the place was always full. These days, people might come for a coffee & a pastry (most are at $8). Wining & dining might cost about $100 or more per person. What a shame!
Every time I visit this fabulous place with incredible design, décor & service especially, the excellent taste of the food comes naturally. Genuine French pastry, extremely tasty croissants & coffees. What a fantastic scenic view form the terrace. A+++
This is my go to. Want to sit & enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend? perfect. Need a sandwich on the run? got it. Have a sweet tooth that needs to be addressed. the perfect remedy. The owners work everyday & the time, energy, & effort they put in is immediately apparent. Worth every penny.
I am a regular here & have tried most of the more substantial pastries on the menu. Coffee is amazing too. It's small but very comfy. Not a place to go when you are watching calories. My favourites: the almond croissant (heart attack on a plate), the Duc de Lorraine pizza, the tart with fruits, & the collection of its cheeses. Don't forget to pick up a delicious loaf of French style bread to take home with you!
