Review Summary

Croissant Monkland draws a loyal crowd with top notch croissants and a wide range of pastries and breads, with almond croissant, pain au chocolat, raspberry and Nutella croissants often singled out for freshness and flavor. The baked goods are fresh, flaky and buttery, made with care, and the aroma of butter greets visitors on entry. The place is noted for reasonable prices and friendly service, and it is praised as a must visit for pastry lovers, sometimes even compared favorably to Paris and North American standards. Busy weekends bring long lines and limited seating, and a few reviews mention the small space and entrance steps as barriers, along with occasional inconsistencies or hygiene concerns. Coffee is generally acceptable but not the main draw, while the pastries and other treats remain the highlight of visits.

This is hands down my number one pastry shop in both Montreal & Toronto. My history with this place goes back many years it's actually where my love for pastries really started. The variety & quality you get here is on another level & honestly something I haven't found anywhere else.

The staff are always friendly & helpful. The shop does get very busy on weekends, & it's common to see a lineup for pastries, which honestly says a lot about how good they are. That said, the seating area & washrooms are quite small for the number of customers they get, so it's not the most comfortable place to hang out during peak times.

My go-to pastries are the classic croissant, almond croissant, & chocolate croissant, but I've tried many other items over the years & loved every single one. Everything is baked fresh, & with the volume of customers they have, pastries don't sit around for long.

Huge shoutout to the bakers seriously amazing work. & lucky are the people who live in this neighborhood & get to have this place so close by. One small note: the coffee is decent, but there's definitely room for improvement.

Overall, an absolute must-visit for pastry lovers. 🥐

Amazing almond croissants.
They bake them really fresh, & it shows. Easily one of the best croissants I've had.

Best in town for me. Best almond croissants, period. I introduced this place to my US friends, Ontarians, & everyone loved it.

✨ Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite! 🥐💸

I stumbled on this place by pure chance while staying at an Airbnb just a 15-minute walk away. One evening, I was browsing Google Maps to see what was around-& this spot instantly caught my eye. Intrigued, I had to check it out… & I'm so glad I did!

I was in Montreal for 5 days, & once I discovered this place & tried their goodies, I couldn't stay away. I came back every single day-no shame! 😋

My girlfriend & I probably spent around $350 during our stay (& yes, they absolutely deserved every cent). The pastries are next-level delicious. I seriously wish I had two stomachs. 😂

⭐ Top recommendation: the almond croissant-pure heaven! 🥐✨ To this day, I still haven't found a better one anywhere.

Do yourself a favor: GO HERE. SPEND YOUR MONEY. WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. 🙌💯

Top tier croissants, one of the best in town. Absolutely recommend the almond croissants. The raspberry croissants are also quite good.

There was still a variety of items available when I visited around 12:30 pm on a Tuesday, though they were running low on a few things. I got the chocolate eclair & the almond croissant.

Chocolate eclair: The ganache on top was fantastic, but the chocolate filling didn't taste like anything, & it was grainy. The choux itself was too soggy. Pretty disappointing overall, wouldn't recommend.

Almond croissant: This was fan-freakin-tastic. It was definitely a few hours old at this point since it was one of only a few left, but magically IT WAS STILL CRISPY & FLAKY. That crust on top, the moist interior, the flavor of the almond paste 🤌 As expected, Croissant Monkland knows how to make a good almond croissant.

Whenever I'm in the area, I grab a pastry here. I got an almond & a chocolate & almond pastry today. Delicious! I took some olive bread for tomorrow. I haven't tried it yet but it looks & smells good. :)

The almond croissant had no volume, was soggy, & the texture was terrible. It tasted awful. The staff put the croissant & blueberry tart in the same paper bag, so the croissant absorbed the blueberry flavor. I bought more than 10 types of bread, but they didn't put them in a shopping bag. Instead, they left 4 small paper bags & a cake box on the counter after I paid & just stared at me. There are far better bakeries in Montreal than this one. Don't go here. I do not recommend it.

The best butter croissants I've had out of the 5-6 most popular bakeries in Montreal. Their croissants are flaky, buttery, & so airy. I also tried their almond croissants & they are pretty good too, the only thing is the almond crust on the top makes them a little sweeter than my liking. Quiche is alright- I've had better.
