In 1861, Thomas Wilson first established its hardware store at 400 Place Jacques Cartier and for over 155 years, this building stood at the very heart of the Old Montreal. In 1970, the iconic French restaurant Chez Queux moved in and would remain there for well over 40 years.
Today it is our turn to leave our mark on this legendary Montreal building. We welcome all who come by, providing food the way we like it, simple, fresh and delicious. After a long day of sightseeing or while on a break from your bicycle ride in the Old Port, drop by Comptoir 400, we are always happy too see (and feed) you!
Comptoir 400 comes across as a lively Old Port spot with a pleasant terrace and a mix of solid dishes and variable service, where reviewers praise the location, atmosphere and flavors in items like mussels, poutine, pizza, burgers and fish, while noting that portions and prices can be inconsistent and some dishes arrive cold or underseasoned. The menu spans seafood, mains and shareables, with several mentions of bruschetta, salads and the arugula pizza as standouts, though a few experiences describe slower service, slow drink refills and uneven attention from staff. The ambiance is repeatedly described as warm and welcoming, making it a good casual option for families, groups or a relaxed dinner, especially outdoors, but timing can suffer during peak hours and some visits feel rushed. Overall, Comptoir 400 is seen as a worthwhile stop for a tasty, location-driven meal with friendly service, yet guests should temper expectations about consistency across visits.

This used to be a great & affordable spot in the Old Port, but things have definitely changed. They used to offer a large pizza, perfect for sharing in groups, but that's no longer on the menu. Now you're limited to small, average-tasting pizzas that cost over $20, which might make sense if the flavour were truly Italian, but unfortunately, that's not the case. Let's be honest: this place was never known for the best pizza in town, but it stood out thanks to the generous portions & great location. That said, if you've been before & were planning to return for the large pizza, don't bother, you'll likely end up wasting your time & money, just like my friends & I did. See photos for reference.
Stopped for a quick bite while walking around the port & Old Montreal. Shared a quattro formaggi pizza, which was great with a nice crispy edge & great cheeses. Also had a sweet nutella pancake with strawberries & banana. Sat on the terrace with a nice view of the adjoining port & square. The lady serving us was very nice & patient with my bad French :-)
I used to frequent this restaurant in Old Port quite often for a long time, & it used to be my favorite spot. I adored their pizzas as they were of excellent quality & absolutely delicious. However, on my recent visit, my experience was utterly disappointing. The quality of the pizza has significantly decreased, & it tasted quite sour this time. While the service was never exceptional, it was decent in the past. However, during my last visit, our server got our order wrong. When the food was brought to us, we informed them that it was not what we ordered. After a while, the waitress returned with the same pizza, insisting that it was our order. Despite their mistake, they did not take any corrective action. When we mentioned that we had ordered an extra-large size, the waitress refused to acknowledge it & instead suggested adding another large pizza to our order, claiming that the other size would be too big for us. After a long wait & growing frustration from hunger, we reluctantly agreed, & they served us the same cold pizza that had been brought out before & took another order. The second pizza arrived about 30 minutes later, but at that point, we were too frustrated & no longer had an appetite. We took a few bites & ended up leaving. The cleanliness of the restaurant was just okay, but the bathrooms were extremely dirty.

Delicious Italian pizza around old port of Montreal. We ordered the XL pizza half Marco Pollo & half Americano. Service was great & comfy. Strongly suggest the Americano
Very busy quasi cafe in the middle.of very busy old Montreal by the Port. Nice enough staff. Seemed to have ample staff but still overwhelmed by crowd of people on a not so busy day. Then again doesn't seem like any food place in Montreal emphasizes speed.
