Comptoir 400 offers a polarizing experience in Old Montreal, frequently praised for its prime location, cozy terrace, and vibrant atmosphere. Many visitors highlight the quality of the pizzas and the exceptional service provided by specific staff members, often describing the team as welcoming and professional. However, reviews are inconsistent, with some guests expressing disappointment regarding food portion sizes, inconsistent cooking quality, and occasional lapses in service attentiveness. While many patrons find the establishment to be a perfect spot for drinks and casual dining with friends or family, others feel the value does not always align with the pricing, leading to varied opinions on whether the experience warrants a return visit.
We went here primarily because of the location. & the awnings are great in case of rain & it was raining while we were there.
Our kids ordered poutine & sadly they were nothing special. We've had way better poutine in Montreal. My husband & I shared a pizza & I was extremely disappointed with it. The crust was too thick. It kind of reminded me of a frozen pizza type crust. It wasn't very good. Sauce was not good either too sweet. & the toppings were dry.
The server was OK but not overly attentive. We will not be back.
Walking around Old Montreal, it can easily become overwhelming where to eat/ what to eat/ seating available. This is located perfectly in the corner with a fairly large patio & indoor seating.
The patio is nice especially in the summer, the food is ok.
The service was good, the food arrived in a timely manner. The pizza was better than the burger. They have inhosue chilli oil. You can never go wrong with a poutine. Overall, the food was satisfying after walking awhile.

Had to be the worst meal I've ever had. Was served microwaveable store bought pizza & undercooked artificial looking meat with my'smoked brisket' poutine. Asked to have the smoked brisket poutine taken off the check & was told they couldn't do anything because we had taken a bite of it & didn't say anything sooner… Never wrote a review before, this made me write one
What a nice place. Being right on the corner near the water, I was skeptical that this place could have been a rip off. But I was pleasingly completely wrong. The atmosphere outside was really fun. I came here one night with my parents after a long day of sightseeing, we ordered the smoked meats poutine, sandwich & wings, all were made quick, fresh & tasted great.
The next day, I came back with my 5yo son, wife & parents again, Jessica remembered us & found us a table. Danni was a great waitress & engaged well. Both made our night very memborable. They were great with my fussy son, & again, the food (pizza, burger, different poutine) was again excellent.
Late review. We went a few months ago & the poutine was extraordinary! I remember the service being kind overall, however, they tried to switch to English when I was practicing my French with them, even though there was not a lot of people in the place that could explain that behaviour justified in a rush of communication. One thing as a tourist that make you enjoy the place is the willingness to try to share your culture, providing a good experience.
