In 1861, Thomas Wilson first established its hardware store at 400 Place Jacques Cartier and for over 155 years, this building stood at the very heart of the Old Montreal. In 1970, the iconic French restaurant Chez Queux moved in and would remain there for well over 40 years.
Today it is our turn to leave our mark on this legendary Montreal building. We welcome all who come by, providing food the way we like it, simple, fresh and delicious. After a long day of sightseeing or while on a break from your bicycle ride in the Old Port, drop by Comptoir 400, we are always happy too see (and feed) you!
Comptoir 400 in Old Montreal comes across as a lively spot with a pleasant terrace and a versatile menu that covers pizzas burgers poutine and seafood. Several dishes stand out including a great Margherita pizza and a tasty arugula pizza along with mussels and fish and chips, though some portions feel inconsistent and timing can vary. The service is described as friendly and attentive by many, while others report slower or less reliable service and some concerns about value and presentation. The location and ambiance are praised for being welcoming and suitable for a casual meal in a tourist area, and while many reviews recommend the place, the experience can differ depending on the time and staff.
Highly recommend this place friendly staff excellentfood & over the top service. Owner was exceptionally nice to chat with. I will have a visit here when I come back to montreal
We waited 20 minutes to be served just now & nobody even made eye with us. Terribly understaffed or just unaware. Either way, lots of room for improvement & training so you don't lose hungry customers.

We were disappointed with the service, the place was empty, no one outside at the pillar to seat us for the longest time, we had to go in to find someone to ask if they were open for business - servers were busy chatting amongst themselves & others within the place other than making sure we were taken care of properly.
To get our bill - we basically had to stand up & put our coats on for them to be attentive.
Poor service (the couple next to us walked out after about 15minutes without any service after being shown to their table). My food was okay but my wife's pizza was hard & dry........& mostly inedible.
Appears to be decent value but isn't worth the money. Won't return.
Had to be the worst meal I've ever had. Was served microwaveable store bought pizza & undercooked artificial looking meat with my'smoked brisket' poutine. Asked to have the smoked brisket poutine taken off the check & was told they couldn't do anything because we had taken a bite of it & didn't say anything sooner… Never wrote a review before, this made me write one

What a nice place. Being right on the corner near the water, I was skeptical that this place could have been a rip off. But I was pleasingly completely wrong. The atmosphere outside was really fun. I came here one night with my parents after a long day of sightseeing, we ordered the smoked meats poutine, sandwich & wings, all were made quick, fresh & tasted great.
The next day, I came back with my 5yo son, wife & parents again, Jessica remembered us & found us a table. Danni was a great waitress & engaged well. Both made our night very memborable. They were great with my fussy son, & again, the food (pizza, burger, different poutine) was again excellent.
I am here in town & loved the place, Mahdi was a great bartender the hosts were great. Everyone was happy & showed us love ! Will be back if I am in the country
