Chez Victoire operates as a refined French bistro characterized by a bold approach to traditional culinary techniques and ingredient selection. The kitchen prioritizes seasonal produce to craft inventive plates that balance classic rustic textures with contemporary flavor profiles. Every dish reflects a dedication to technical precision and the exploration of complex profiles within a focused menu structure. The physical environment features an open layout that prioritizes visibility and direct interaction between the preparation stations and the seating area. Metallic accents and utilitarian surfaces define the visual identity of the space, mirroring the straightforward nature of the food program. This establishment functions as a primary destination for individuals seeking a sophisticated yet unpretentious exploration of modern bistro staples rooted in established French methodology.
Chez Victoire is widely regarded as a standout destination in Montreal, praised for its cozy, elegant atmosphere and creative, high-quality French-inspired cuisine. Many diners highlight the fresh ingredients and skillfully prepared dishes, with particular mentions of the duck, steak, and cauliflower. While the service is frequently described as professional, warm, and engaging, a subset of patrons has reported inconsistent experiences regarding staff attentiveness and professionalism. The wine list and cocktail offerings receive consistent acclaim, though some guests have noted concerns regarding portion sizes or specific pricing relative to the amount of food served. Overall, the majority of visitors find the restaurant to be a delightful, reliable spot for memorable dinners, celebrations, and casual outings, expressing a strong desire to return.
Goûteux, complexe, long & savoureux en bouche.
We ate in a few places in Montreal during our stay. Many very good. This is the only one I reviewed because it was so great. The second time we went we had the trust the chef option with family. Every dish was great. Spectacular fresh tuna tartare, grilled hangar steak ( wood fired by the taste), fresh summer tomatoes salad with an amazing froth of some kind, calamari, grilled artichoke hearts ( not usually a fan but an incredible Smokey creamy sauce with it) then three fab desserts. We shared between 5 so got great variety ( 5 different starters, 4 different mains three desserts.). Unexpectedly great value actually at $45 pp. Attentive knowledgeable waiter, helpful wine suggestions with tasting. Just excellent.

My review is a bit outdated since my last visit was over a year ago. But before I moved out of the Plateau it used to be my go to place for groups out of towners & special but casual occasions. Food & service were reliably good.
Our friend & neighbor Edward, (now living in FL) recommended Chez Victoire for an authentic Québécois experience, & he couldn't have been more right.
We came for our anniversary & left completely charmed.
From the moment we walked in, Emile greeted us with genuine warmth & guided us through an incredibly personalized experience. His knowledge of the menu & thoughtful recommendations made the whole evening feel special & intimate rather than rushed or generic.
The atmosphere struck the perfect balance of cozy & intimate enough for a celebration, yet lively & full of that classic Plateau energy. The food was outstanding: refined, seasonal, & proudly local. Every dish felt carefully considered & beautifully executed.
If you're looking for a memorable, authentic Montreal dinner that still feels personal & welcoming, Chez Victoire delivers. We'll definitely be back & we'll keep thanking Edward for the tip!
We had such a beautiful evening at Chez Victoire tonight! The staff went above & beyond to make us feel special for our anniversary! The food is outstanding & so fresh. We ordered the cheese to start. It was all Quebec cheeses, & all were delicious. We couldn't decide what part of the meal was our favorite, because it was all so good. The strip that it's on is all pedestrian with lots of shopping & bars/restaurants & it's surrounded by residential housing. It was a wonderful evening that we look forward to visiting again.
