Chez Tousignant Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
Casse-Croute (Snack Bar)BurgersPoutineComfort Food
It’s fast food, but made to order. The result of a late-night chat, and a handful of cooks. Who wanted to put the salt back in the butter. A bag of cheese curds that goes with supper. Assembled hot dogs, made proper. And fine toppings on a beautiful burger. But! You must order from the counter, and get up again when it’s ready to gather, except on weekends, and only for coffee (maybe with sugar). Prepared like it was meant to be, no fodder. You can arrive here hither or thither, it really doesn’t matter. Even better. Tous, chez Tousignant.

Review Summary

Chez Tousignant comes across in reviews as a nostalgic Montreal casse-croute with a retro diner vibe where burgers are the centerpiece, the double cheese burger and house-made hot dogs along with a standout poutine drawing frequent praise. The buns are described as soft, the fries well made, and the in-house sausages give a distinct flavor to the hot dogs. Burgers are often called juicy and well balanced, with the texture of the patties and the overall flavor a highlight, though several comments mention portions that feel small and toppings that can be overly saucy. Prices are a recurring topic, with many noting that the food is tasty but pricey for what is offered and some saying value can be inconsistent. Service is described as friendly and efficient by many, but a few reviews report uneven attitudes or longer waits, affecting the overall experience. Taken together, the reviews present a popular destination for burger and poutine lovers who value nostalgia and quality ingredients, while reminding potential visitors to consider price and occasional variability in portion size or execution.

I ordered the hot dog tousignant & small poutine - this was an ok poutine, but definitely not my favourite - there was a good balance of fries/cheese/gravy however the gravy had no flavour & the fries were soggy. The hot dog had a good flavour (it was made in-house) but the mayo sauce was very overpowering, the few bites I had with less sauce were great. Poutine 3/5 Hot Dog 4/5

I came here to try the poutine on a Friday night. The place was decently busy but there was no lineup. We were a group of 3 & found space without any issues. The poutine was good but i thought the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Portion was on the smaller side but nothing offensive. The cheese was very fresh & super squeaky, I just wish the curds were a bit bigger. I'm glad I tried it but unfortunately not a place I'd come back to. They do make their own sodas which was really neat. We had the cherry Cola, the root beer & the cream soda. I had the cherry Cola & it was good but a bit too syrupy.

We arrived right before 6pm & shockingly the restaurant was empty. We were expecting a line & a moderate wait, but no waiting which was awesome. Restaurant was clean & we ordered their most expensive poutine, which included hot dog, ground beef, cheese curds & gravy. Pretty damn good as a meal, except no veggies. 😂 really only stopped for a snack but the poutine dish was pretty satisfying. Their menu has hamburgers, hotdogs, shakes & an assortment of soft drinks. Was worth the experience as a tourist & would come back. Merci!

No idea why Tousignant isn’t rated higher! Locally recommended smash burger diner, known for burgers (of course) & their hot dogs. Simple menu, well executed with a causal jazz tunes playing in the background.
Very short waiting time ~5mins for x2 cheese burgers & poutine.
What’s more to ask?

My favourite burger joint in Montreal. The patties are crispy & juicy, perfectly toasted bun, toppings complement the beefiness of the meat. I always get the double cheese but I mistakenly ordered the wrong item yesterday. The very friendly & warm staff promptly made generous accommodations for me & made sure that I enjoyed my meal. Very grateful & glad I came here for the last meal in Montreal on this trip. Looking forward to returning again!

What I took:
- Cheeseburger
- Frite Sauce
- Chez Tousignant Root Beer

What I liked:
- The burger was phenomenal, wish I had taken the double
- Good frite sauce (old style fries similar to Julep, Belle Pro, etc)
- Good service, friendly people

What I didn't like:
- Price is a bit expensive for the burgers
- Root beer was meh
- More pickles please !!

Have to try the burger here !

Cheeseburger was good but tiny & overpriced. Letdown!
