We had the scallops & the beef tartare as appetizers; then duck & the sea bass for mains. All the dishes were amazing but our favorite was the scallops - we could have had 2 more orders! Had just enough room left to share the maple cake dessert :)
Casavant - Villeray, Montreal
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're visiting Montreal, get in a cab & go to Casavant. It's a 15-minute ride from Old Montreal into the quiet residential neighborhood of Villeray - & worth every minute.
I took my family for dinner & it immediately became the best dining experience of our Montreal trip. The service is the first thing you notice - genuinely warm, friendly, & attentive without a trace of stuffiness. The staff made our entire table feel completely at home from the moment we sat down.
The food is exceptional. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared & delicious, the kind of cooking that makes you slow down & pay attention. We finished with outstanding desserts paired with dessert wines, which was the perfect ending to a perfect meal.
Casavant is everything you want in a great restaurant - impeccable service, extraordinary food, wonderful atmosphere & a room full of people who are genuinely happy to be there. No pretension, no performance. Just a serious kitchen & a team that clearly loves what they do.
An absolute must if you're in Montreal.
Visited with my mom, absolutely great. Had booking for 9:30, got there at 9, they sat us no problem. Presentation beautiful, server knowledgeable, interactive, & picked some excellent wines by the glass for us. Offered half-glasses when she felt each dish needed something different. Scallops crudo absolutely outstanding. Almost ordered a second serving instead of dessert. Thanks for the great experience.
Merci.
Cannot say enough good things about this place!
Food was excellent! The scallops & hanger steak were to die for. An explosion of flavours. My friend had the bass & loved it as well.
Desserts were also delicious. Chocolate was great but the real star was the apple cake.
Big shout out to Amelie who was excellent. Warm & friendly service.
Very nice atmosphere on a Wednesday night.
Casavant has definitely been added to my fave restos in montreal.
We enjoyed our dinner here last night. We had a late dinner reservation & was very satisfied. Our server was attentive. The restaurant only had French menu & he described each dish in English lol. We ordered the steak tartare, scallops, sea bass & hanger steak. We didn't get dessert as we had some waiting for us at home. Also ordered wine & cocktails which was delicious.
Casavant earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand & I can see why. The poultry mousse stuffed morels are the kind of dish an inspector would notice & the tender hangar steak with whelks & fiddleheads was an utter delight, if a bit small as a portion size.
Special mention for Casavant's divine twist on the classic profiterole, replacing the cream with rhubarb & ricotta.
Slight hiccup with the paccheri neri (tube-shaped pasta made with black squid ink) served with lobster, pea leaves, & tomato bisque. The bisque needed something, maybe more garlic or seasoning to elevate the dish to where it belongs.
Bib Gourmands are awarded to restaurants that offer what's deemed as good value, & $135 for 2 before drinks, tax, & tip is not too shabby for elevated brasserie appetizers, main dishes, & a shared dessert featuring sought-after in-season ingredients.
Nice wine list too. They even have piquette.
Dress up a little if you want, but not too much. Service is elegant, warm, friendly.
It is rarely a good sign that a restaurant charges for bread, but you'd get away with it if you serve fresh bread at extra charge. Mine was stale & looked small compared to the bread other people got...
I thought their fish was mediocre. The steak, on the other hand, was top notch. The other dishes were ok. Dessert was a complete miss.
Sortie en amoureux très réussi !
Un délice de l'entrée au dessert & belle présentation !
Service très attentionné de Maël qui nous a aidé pour le choix des vins ! Merci !
À bientôt
