Review Summary

Campo earns praise for succulent Portuguese chicken, juicy meat and a range of sauces. The table d'hote is repeatedly highlighted as a great value to sample multiple dishes, and the vibe is described as cozy with attentive, friendly service. The downtown location and options for dine-in or takeout make it convenient for lunch or casual dinners, with nat a, croquettes, salads and even poutine often named as high points. However, some visits fall short with slow or inattentive service, long waits to be noticed, or food arriving cold and with overpowering sauces. A few dishes are noted as underseasoned and portions can feel small, fries sometimes soggy or oily, and one Caesar on the menu drew criticism. There are also stronger complaints about price or overall value and a very negative experience tied to a quiet empty dining room and loud music in another visit, while many others still say Campo is a solid, convenient choice and would return for the chicken, sides and friendly staff.

I love the food at Campo!! My colleagues & I are addicted to the Ceasar salad with Piri Piri chicken. It is sooo good. The chicken is juicy, tangy & has the perfect kick. You can add some more with their home-made hot sauce (you can also buy it at the Boutique to bring home, which I so recommend - alongside their sous-vide chicken you can cook on your BBQ). Recently I tried their garden salad with quinoa & the vinaigrette is amazing. The menu is short & well executed. You can order Portuguese wines as well. The place is small & packed during lunch. It can be a little chaotic with the lines to pay/get your food. I don't really like the tables, it feels cramped. It is worse on their super small terrace during summer. That's really my only complain. You can have it delivered with Uber Eats & they even have a catering service that we tried (amazing!!). You need to try!

Les plats sont savoureux & les portions sont biens pour le prix. La sauce piri goute authentique, cependant jai enlevé une étoile car nous avons commandé le gros format, mais nous avons reçu le petit. Somme toute une bonne expérience à la livraison.

The chicken dishes are far from the Portuguese piri piri grilled chicken I've got to know! Chicken portions were not generous & lacked effort, the spicy portuguese signature taste was missing & chicken was dry. The waiter gave his best service he could, why I give 4/5 stars. He did check on us & later when we went to pay, we discovered they keep piri sauce on the side - was not offered. Our dinner sitting at Campo was Saturday around 7- 8.30pm

So I heard about this place called Time Out where it's the third place in the world where you have essentially upscale food court in a mall. This is the essentially what Time Out is, mixed with numerous other sorts of food offerings but designed & owned by top restaurateurs &/or chefs. We went to CAMPO which was been said to be one the better places to eat Portuguese rotisserie chicken. We figured that since this is the brainchild of the famous Ferreira Restaurant it must be good. The outcome. Yes it was good, not great, not amazing but good. I think Toronto has much but restaurants like this than Montreal but such is life. The food was prepared quickly in the amount of time it took to find a table to be exact. How could this be so fast? They continuously cook chickens to an almost fully cooked state, then briefly place it back on the spit to refresh it - I think, or maybe not & it sits in a warmer. I say the second because our food came more warm than hot & fresh with a crispy skin texture. Which is one main reason why it's not 5 stars. Moreover, the chicken had very minimal marinade (I imagine it's Piri Piri) & there was no offer to provide a small container of sauce for dipping which it really needed for the white meat especially since it was quite dry. I also do not like when (typically inexperienced cooks) slice into my meals protein to check for done-ness. Likely another attribute to dry chicken. Ironically the dark meat thigh was done fine but the drumstick was hard & overdone. Aside from this the size of the chicken seems much smaller than most other rotisserie in Montreal or even Toronto for that matter Fries are reasonably good considering they said they are not home made, just the portion was quite small as was the delicious salad & its dressing but so small it was almost like a second thought. The other thing is product knowledge. The whole time out is mostly filled with very young & inexperienced staff & it makes you wonder people what the quality will be. In our case the server self admittedly no idea of what the food is, how it's made, & had no sense of the product or pride in it for that matter. Somewhat of a turn off from a foodie perspective. We heard from many people that the chicken sandwich was amazing but we wanted to evaluate the chicken on its own, & perhaps smothered with other items & the sandwich roll its better I don't know. All in all reasonably good food but for the price I would not go out of my way again to eat there as they are other better places to eat. But if I were there in the building let's say, & didn't want to try all the other great food options, I may try their sandwich as a last ditch to get a hot properly cooked chicken product. All in all I expected much much more from the owners at Ferreira - it's not up to their standard at all from my experience.
