Avis pour Cafè Veloce
Worst café experience BY FAR in all of Place Ville Marie.
The coffee is below average but the service is what left a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm not expecting a red carpet when entering a store, but a simple'good morning, thank you, have a nice day' seems to be too much to ask for two fully grown men. It's ?like you're bothering them because you want to buy something (keeping your business alive). If you're more focused on having a talk than offering basic courtesy(while you're being PAID to do so), please bless us by staying at home & start a podcast.
But rest assured, the tip option is always ready to greet you with a smile when it's time to pay. Next time add a negative option so it can reflect the quality of service offered.
Take an additional 1-2min to check around. Much better coffee & service available.
(I also found that their lids had an unsual design, might just be me.)
Oh yes please;
Go ahead & prompt me for a:'15, no 18, oh wait maybe 20%?' tip just to pour your basic AF filtered coffee into a small cup (the only size offered/available - @ $3.50/cup no less) while asking me if I need room for sugar & cream for the two'black coffees' I just ordered, just so you can leave an inch of free space in the cup once I answer'no thank you'.
How does this place have a single bad review?
Great coffee for very reasonable price considering the location & nice baristas.
Coffee was great, service was terrible. Unfriendly, had to repeat requests many times, gave me a half full coffee saying the price was for a smaller format than my personal 16oz cup (~4$ for a coffee refusing to fill it up ). I will not return, even if coffee was good
Often, reviews are written after one particularly bad experience. I write this after having given this place one, two... seven chances. (I counted them.) over two months. I always order "for here", to enjoy my latte or cappuccino in a mug; six out of the seven times, they always, always put it in a paper cup. I started waiting at the prep, & would tell the barista "no! for here please". Then they'd unceremoniously dump the $9 latte into a mug. Often these episodes are accompanied by visible displeasure at having to do it in a mug. On my last visit, order a Matcha latte. $9. They started putting in a paper cup. "No, a mug please!". Pulls out a regular, smallish mug. A matcha latte goes in a large, café-au-lait style mug. "This is the largest we have". What am I paying $9 for? Asked for a glass of water, they "don't have any". Pointed me to the rest of the food court vendors to ask for water. I note that the latte was nine dollars. I wish I could say that at least the coffee is out of this world. It is fine. It qualifies as proper 3rd-wave coffee, but nothing exceptional to make up for the annoyed service or the exorbitant prices. Milks: it's 2024, it's time to stop charging for non-dairy milk, especially since they're the same price in grocery stores. Or at least, don't charge over a dollar ($1.09) for them. Its positives: excellent ambiance, both in the cafe with its decent-sized tables, & in the adjoining Cathcart open space, & its flood of sun. Beautiful place to sit. & I will sit there; but I will not be sipping a coffee from this place.
One of the best cortados I've tried before. Amazing flavor. The atmosphere is nice & I didn't have any extraordinary service at the counter but anyways, the coffee taste & preparation worths stoping by.
Good vibes in this little coffee shop in the Place Ville Marie esplanade. The flat white was excellent & the baristas were friendly & fast. The shop was not busy at all (on the Friday between Christmas & New Year's). It was a relief to find this gem & avoid Starbucks.
Good coffee, however, they pass on old pastries as new. The baristas will lie about the freshness of the pastries being sold. Received a chewy & very stale regular croissant this am.
Looks like a craft coffee shop, behaves like one, but why the hell would they serve badly brewed filter coffee if they don't know how to brew it properly as it taste worse than pikes place that can be grabbed at the Starbucks nearby?
I'm sure their espresso drinks are on point though... I may just ask for an Americano next time.

Beautiful cafe with delicious coffee. I had a latte & was greeted by a very friendly staff. The place is gorgeous, & offers a long pastry counter full of goodies ( they have great vegan options too, I tried the banana muffin & croissant!). Quick & efficient, with great quality coffee. Very nice to see a cafe at the Cathcart!
