Our go to for fine dining in Montreal. We had the 8 course tasting menu with Canadian wine pairings. Some spectacular pairings with innovative food. Service is delightful-proper yet relaxed. Not something you can afford every day, but well worth it for that special date night.
Had high expectations given the fantastic reviews, but I was shocked at how bad the food was here. This was undoubtedly my worst meal in all of Montreal during my trip here & the most expensive. Service was cold & sterile. Server was not very detailed when going through the menu. When I prodded about the origin/source of some of the ingredients, our server did not seem to be interested in having that conversation, which was disappointing for a restaurant at this price point. Tried the 5-course tasting menu for dinner. Was disappointed to learn that the 8-course menu was not available for the early seating (I do not believe this was made apparent or obvious during the booking process, but it could have been my oversight), but it ended up working in our favour because each course was subpar. I ordered the non-alcoholic pairing. I am a huge fan of non-alcoholic pairings at fine-dining restaurants across the world & will usually order it when available. They are stunning when executed correctly, but this was mostly a disappointment. Kombucha was alright, but I was severely let down by the dashi drink (which was indistinguishable from instant dashi), as well as the drink paired with the squash dessert. I do have to give credit to the fact that their concoctions were made in-house, as some restaurants just serve off-the-shelf non-alcoholic drinks. Kudos to the sommelier/server serving the drinks, as they did an excellent job explaining the drinks. Onto the food - flavour combinations were uninspiring to say the least. Not going to go through the entire menu but here are some notes: Ravioli with mussels, green peas & mascarpone - basic & boring flavours, over seasoned with a sauce that was overly acidic. Duck with berries, pepper, almonds (supplemented with a slab of foie gras for an extra 20CAD) - The protein itself was cooked well. Garnishes were substandard, however. Saving grace was the foie, which was beautiful, & the among the best I've ever had. Zero balance to the dish however, & the addition of almonds was head-scratching. I did mention this to our server, but they merely chuckled & seemed again to be uninterested in hearing my opinion On the contrary, had a wonderful experience at their sister restaurant, Cadet. Perhaps I came here on an off night.
An extraordinary dining experience, on every level! Perhaps the best I have ever had. We had the five course tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course was highly creative, with interesting colors, textures, & flavors. . .& always incredibly delicious. We enjoyed having both the Canadian & European wine pairings. They were so very different from one another, but both complemented the food perfectly. Kudos to the sommelier, Luec, who did an amazing job! The service could not have been better. Our server, Natalia, was so welcoming & professional, which elevated our experience to an even higher level. . .truly memorable. I would return to Montreal just to dine at Bouillon Bilk!
Every dish was absolutely delicious, the wine pairing was spot on, & the service was fantastic!
This is one of the best tables in Montreal & I stand by it - I've been dining at Bouillon Bilk for almost 10 years. If you like scallops, their version is a classic for a reason. Always perfectly cooked & paired with seasonal vegetables. Keep the bread to pick up all the delicious sauces that come with the dish. All the other entrees & main are good, creative & beautiful to look at. The service is premium - I never got a bad wine pairing with my meal. I highly recommend!
Top shelf restaurant with a great tasting menu, they even have a wine pairing menu for each course! Super delicious & little pricey but no complaints we had a lovely time & were full after our tasting they time the courses perfectly.
I've done the 8 course meal with the wine pairing twice at this place. Each time it's been an incredibly memorable experience & a gastronomic delight. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Bouillon Bilk was the first time I ever experience French Food. We enjoyed the 5 course meal with the 5 European wine pairing. The food was truly out of this world, I never tasted flavors like we did. Not only was the food great, the staff were amazing as well. For an upscale French Restaurant, the staff & location was warm & inviting. A must go place if you're looking to treat yourself!
What an excellent dining experience! We did the 8 course set with a non-alcoholic drink pairing as well as the Canadian wine pairing. Almost all of the non-alcoholic drinks were fantastic (the mushroom kombu beverage was not good at all however) & the wine was expertly paired. The food was well thought out, beautifully presented, & had great flavours. It was contemporary but had classic but elevated flavours. Service was fantastic & the ambiance was okay. The food was the highlight of the experience, however, we would have opted for the 5-course instead of the 8-course in hindsight. The 3 additional dishes that we got as part of the 8-course were our least favourite (beets, trout, & chocolate). I would come back for a special occasion sometime. Prices are fair, & we left feeling quite full! 9.2/10!
I had ordered the 5 course tasting menu + non-alcoholic pairing. The food was in general good. Starting with a small basket of bread & butter, & then came a variety of flavours such as crab, veal tartare, pasta, beef, finishing off with a chocolate dessert. The non-alcoholic pairing was a nice surprise, & the pairings ended up quite interesting from a mocktail, to dashi, to a smoky kombucha. The service was good as well, the servers explained the menu very well, & were very quick about cleaning up the table & preparing you for the next course. The reason I give this a 4 star instead of 5 star is that for the price of the meal at about 200 dollars per person (5 course + drink pairing) I do have an expectation that it'd be not just a very good experience but a great &/or excellent experience. A couple of things stood out to me in this regard. The starter bread came with butter, however the butter was still quite cold (& perhaps a little frozen). & when the butter is that cold, you end up destroying the bread as you attempt to spread it as I did last night. Plus you can't get an even a spread. That was a bit of a disappointing start. I found the cappelletti to be quite salty. When you have a dish like this, & try to get a little bit of everything in one bit such as the cream sauce, the bacon bits, the taste felt just salty (with a hint of richness from the sauce). A minor thing, but I noticed there was a coat check. I'm not sure if it's offered to everyone but did notice some people use it as the service staff had retrieved it for them. I think if coat check if available, then it should be offered to anyone who has one. It wasn't a big deal as I just put my coat on my chair, no big deal. But one of those things where it'd be a +1pt for service if it was offered. Overall, I liked the food, it was good. The service was friendly & fairly fast. But for the price point, I really wanted it to be & expected it to be really great (& I think it's almost there!). Even so, I'd recommend people to check this place out.
Lovely 5 course tasting menu. Beef finisher was fantastic. Wine pairings were good as well
I rarely write reviews, but after last night's dinner I feel compelled to share my incredible experience. I was blown away by the precision of the wine pairing with the set menu, I highly the Canadian wines option. My highlight was the bass crudo & green apple consommé, paired with Quebec chardonnay/seyval from Les Pervenches winery. My compliments to the chef & each member of the staff that made our night memorable.
Simply incroyable !! Found this restaurant specifically for my visit to Montreal & I am so glad I did! Beautiful artistry in the dishes & the wine pairings are to die for. Wish I had taken a picture of each & every one because I WILL be searching for them. The servers were so kind & accommodating & they incorporated all our wishes into the tasting menu. Cuisine wise, yes, I did feel transported to France. Can't recommend this place enough!
Stylish, intimate, environment in a central location (I was surprised that I had never noticed it before). Attentive, informative service. Tasty, interesting food (highlights include the seared trout, butternut squash ravioli & roasted beef). Very intriguing non-alcoholic beverage pairings! Ridiculously small portions for the dishes (even for a French-inspired restaurant)...
Amazing food, service & people! I recommend for any special occasions. The wines pairing is excellent & the staff is knowledgable & friendly.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner last week. The service was not just great, but it was an art! They all work together as a team, & they made the experience really enjoyable. Our server even checked in to see if the pacing of the food was alright. We did the 5 course tasting for $105 which I thought was a phenomenal price. Something like that in Calgary would be $135 minimum & not nearly as good. I did the discovery wine pairings & they were so delicious & unlike anything I've tried before. Finally, the passion of the chefs shined through in each dish. Carefully throughout with balanced flavours, textures, & beautiful plating. The star for me was the ravioli, & my boyfriend liked the snapper. Really unforgettable, I'd go again next time I'm in Montreal.
Would skip doing the tasting menu, wine pairing was also a miss. Subpar service, not the most knowledgeable about their own menu & drinks being served. General atmosphere was ok. The veal tartare blew me away, absolutely perfect dish but that's about it.
One of the great restaurants in Montreal. Second time. Worth the wine pairing with the tasting menu. Tuna tartare was out of this world
Enjoyed the 8 course tasting with wine pairing. Really incredibly executed dishes - I don’t think there was a miss with any course or pairing. Only tiny feedback was the pacing was a little slow between courses - 3.5 hours for 8 dishes was a bit too long for me.
