If you're in Montréal & love donuts, you have to try Bernie Beigne.
The apple fritter is absolutely out of this world. It's perfectly crisp on the outside, soft & fluffy on the inside, & packed with real apple flavour. Every bite has that perfect balance of sweetness & texture - not overly sugary, just rich, warm, & incredibly satisfying.
You can tell these donuts are made with care. Fresh, generous, & honestly one of the best apple fritters I've ever had.
If you're anywhere near Bernie Beigne, do yourself a favour & grab one… or two. You won't regret it.
Bernies Doughnuts is the perfect place for a sweet snack. We shared the maple glazed & the chocolate doughnuts & both were absolutely delicious. Fresh soft & full of flavour with just the right amount of sweetness. Big thumbs up all around 🍩
After waiting in line for a really long time, I finally bought a box of donuts!!! 🍩Each one was so sweet, they melted in my mouth.😋 But I don't think I can eat more than one a day. Hahaha😅
I've been to over 85 countries & have a crippling sweet-tooth. These are the BEST apple fritters bar none that I have ever had the pleasure to experience. I knew they were a hot commodity so I called ahead to catch them after they made their last batch for the evening. They are ENORMOUS & yet the same price as the rest. I'm more of a purist so the best donuts I had (aside from apple fritters) was the apple cinnamon filled, Boston cream was excellent & real quality cream, followed by powdered strawberry filled. All high quality ingredients that you could tell the difference. We need more places like this that emphasise high quality & not just the usual instagram BS* this entire box including the fritters was only $25. That's very good value for money in today's market for these quality of donuts. Next time I'd just get all fritters if I wanted the most bang for your buck!
Bernie Beigne wasn't on my radar while I was in Montréal with my family, yet it ended up being one of the most memorable eats of our trip. So much so, we ended up going twice. I'd even go as far as saying the donuts here are the best I've had yet.
The donuts had a great, fluffy & airy texture. Of the 8 I tried, the cotton candy was my favorite. It was the most visually appealing, & wasn't overly sweet considering it was cotton candy flavored. The Boston cream was my second favorite. It was easily the heaviest donut of the 8 because of its filling, but was the highest quality Boston cream I've had. The rest of the donuts were all worth getting, but the two mentioned above stood out the most. Below is my ranking of all the donuts I tried:
1. Barbe à Papa (Cotton Candy)
2. Crème Boston (Boston Cream)
3. Oreo
4. Caramel Salé (Salted Caramel)
5. M&M
6. Crème Sure (Sour Cream)
7. Simpsons
8. Kit-Kat
Whether you're a donut connoisseur or just someone looking for something sweet to eat l, I can't recommend this enough.
Very creative flavours but they were far too sugary for my taste. It was overwhelming how sweet these are.
Wow. Melt in your mouth, just the right amount of sweetness, amazing, light, donut. One of the best bites in Montreal. Good on them!
Some of the best donuts 🍩 I've ever had! Whether you go for a classic or one of their filled options, every bite is fresh, flavorful, & satisfying-& they definitely don't hold back on the filling.
Even just waiting outside, you can smell the sweetness in the air & see the donuts hanging in the window, making your mouth water before you even step inside. The shop has a fun, welcoming vibe & everything feels handmade with care.
An absolute must-stop in Montreal for any donut lover. I'll be dreaming about these until my next visit.
Judging their Cinnamon Toast Crunch Doughnut. Super light & delicate. Delicious, & not filling, but catches your sweet tooth well.
Crazy good donuts, always fresh & their huge apple fritters are crispy, sweet & full of apples!
Quel équipe de feu! My little one was disappointed they had sold out of pink donuts, but the staff knew exactly how to put a smile on her face :) very sweet! Not to mention - les beignes sont excellents!!!
I think Bernie Beigne might've redefined everything I thought I knew about donuts. I've had many donuts throughout my life in many cities, from traditional shops to artisanal donut shops. So I was familiar with the texture & taste of yeasted & cake donuts. But then I got the Simpsons donut & the Coco Choco.
Simpsons: It's such a simple donut. But it's probably one of the best donuts I've ever had. It was so soft & fluffy, I was a little bit in shock after my first bite. I've never had a yeasted donut quite like that. There can be a wrong way to do glaze, but Bernie does it very right here -- not too sweet, & it doesn't leave a dry taste in your mouth. & I didn't feel guilty eating this donut at all, it didn't feel or taste oily.
Coco choco: This could rival cakes from actual bakeries with how moist & soft it was. It's glazed & then covered in coconut, so it had an amazing crispiness on the outside. The flavor hit with that chocolate & hint of nutmeg.
I would get their donuts daily for every meal if I lived nearby. I'll for sure be getting more whenever I'm in the area, though I don't need any more convincing that this is THE place for donuts. But of course, I wouldn't be returning if the people here weren't so darn friendly & efficient, so big shout out to the staff here as well.
There are so many donut to choose from so my husband got half a dozen assorted & an apple fritter (not pictured). The donuts were soft & fluffy. The kids definitely enjoyed the colorful donuts & toppings however I found it to be ok & bit too sweet.
I'm not usually an apple fritter person but this apple fritter was amazing! Huge, probably 4x the size of a regular apple fritter & it was also soft & delicious. I had some leftover & it was still soft the next day. It's definitely a must get!
The maple bacon donut sounds like a crazy concept, but it is AMAZING. Perfectly sweet, salty, & savoury. Highly underrated & underestimated.
Bernie Beigne: A Sweet Spot in Montreal! • If you're a fan of donuts & find yourself in Outremont / Montreal, Bernie Beigne is a must-visit. This cozy little hole-in-the-wall serves up an incredible selection of donuts that are as flavorful as they are unique. From the classic to the inventive, each donut is crafted with care & bursts with flavor in every bite. • The highlight? The massive apple fritter. It's not just the biggest apple fritter I've ever seen, but also one of the best. Crisp on the outside, soft & perfectly spiced on the inside, it's an experience all on its own. • Adding to the charm is the friendly service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Bernie Beigne is well worth the stop for a sweet treat.
I came nearing closing time on a Sunday & there was only one type of donut left. I was also the before last person that got a doughnut so I got extremely lucky. Honestly, I'm so happy I made it in time although I was forced to choose the remaining cinnamon, original classic donut. This donut was pure perfection. It was fluffy. It was freshly fried & crispy. It was sweet, the flavours were well balanced. It was genuinely delicious. The guy at the counter was extremely friendly & the price was really good at two dollars a doughnut I can't wait to come back soon & try different flavors.
I'm not a fan of sweets, but this place, they're working with some type of sorcery here. The donuts? Absolute madness. It's a relief I don't live in Montreal, I would've been a daily visitor & easily be 50 pounds heavier. Jokes aside, delicious products, friendly service, & great value. What more do you want? A staple for me any time I visit Montreal. Would love for these guys to open up shop in Toronto. Favourite donut was the Boston cream. Spectacular, give me 30 more.
The original donuts here are so fire! Not overly glazed. Soft. Sweet. Just perfectly doughy. The one thing is that they will run out some days, so important to go really on the weekends or just call ahead. They have alot of creative & indulgent donuts. Unfortunately, they don't sell my favorite flavor which is Krispy Kreme is #1 for. Which is.... chocolate glazed with sprinkles. That sweet crunch is everything. This place reminds me a bit of Longs from Indy.
I had the Simpson donut, aptly named for the neon pink, sprinkled confections beloved by Homer Simpson. Being a fan of the Simpsons, I've always wanted to try one of those donuts, & I'm happy to say that I feel like I finally had my chance. Every childhood craving I had was satisfied when I took the first bite into Bernie Beigne's masterful creation. I was blown away by the delicate balance of sweetness & heartiness, the pillowy dough which was unbelievably soft yet also satiating. How did they do it? Surely they spent years perfecting their fermentation technique & their glaze-to-dough ratio. Whatever they did, it worked. Best donut I've ever had.
Great & creative doughnuts! We where originally gonna get only 6, but after seeing the wide range of unique flavours we knew we had to get 12 MINIMUM! A lot of these doughnuts are prepared fresh, the doughnuts aren't too sweet & the flavours they represent are spot on. Some of my notes le favourite being the mango, which was tart & fresh. The brownie, which was decadent & perfect for chocolate lovers! & the creme brûlée, a fluffy doughnut with a creamy filling & hard sugar top! Overall the doughnuts are fluffy, fresh, & just great. Perfect for locals & tourists alike, & a must visit when in Montreal
