YAMA is a Japenese restaurant located in Vogue Hotel. This was a convenient & easy option for us since we stayed at Vogue. We dined at YAMA our first evening & were pleasantly surprised. The menu had many vegetarian options for us, which we appreciated. Even for a Sunday evening, the bar & restaurant were steadily busy.
We ordered:
Starters: edamame & vegetable gyoza. The edamame was classic. The vegetable gyoza were cooked crispy & was served in a shallow bowl with a coriander infused citrus sauce. It was tasty, & balanced well.
Small plate/side: midori no ha maki roll is a vegetarian roll with fresh veggies, wrapped in lettuce as opposed to traditional seaweed. It was a simple roll with a burst of freshness. We ordered the truffle fries because our server said they were amazing. They did not disappoint.
Entree: we ordered the roasted eggplant for our entree. We did not know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. The eggplant is cooked so well that it melts in your mouth. It was topped various wild mushrooms cooked differently (i.e. some crispy). It was a mild dish packed with a lot of flavor.
Dessert: For dessert we ordered the chocolate praline mousse. This was insane. Imagine a hard chocolate shell bomb with a mousse filling. The exterior was a chocolate & hazelnut shell. This dessert satisfies all cravings: chocolate, crunchy, & crispy.
We were very pleased with the vegetarian options at YAMA.
The only downside is the price. You are paying hotel prices to dine here, but that should be expected.

This restaurant is excellent the food is tasly, beautiful colors, presentation is spectacular all amazing. The service was perfect people happy & smiley, warm welcome, chef, director all the staff big thanks to you all.
Sarah Al Hajj Ali was a fantastic host & impromptu concierge for our short trip in Montreal. She greeted us every day as Vogue Hotel guests & provided fantastic recommendations for nights out in the city. Thank you very much, Sarah.
Wagyu steak was outstanding: done medium-rare, attractively-presented, & every morsel a delight. Even the grilled vegetables with it were excellent. My biggest gripe was the limited portion size, but I suppose you're meant to eat multiple courses. Service was fine, but nothing remarkable.
Recently visited Yama in Montreal for a special event, & it was nothing short of spectacular. The atmosphere was lively & elegant, perfectly matched by a thoughtfully curated wine pairing that elevated every bite. The sushi? Absolutely divine-fresh, artfully presented, & bursting with flavor.
From start to finish, the experience was seamless & memorable. Yama knows how to turn a meal into a celebration. Can't wait to return & explore more of their menu.

We were assigned a table by the hostess on the terrasse for an evening drink. Despite several staff moving around & the place being far from busy, no one came to take our order (not even to offer water)for more than 20 minutes.
We eventually left, completely ignored. No one seemed to notice or care.
Great service, but the food is RIDICULOUSLY expensive for the quality that you get. The sushi tasted like it was made in a chain restaurant. Really disappointing experience.
Yama has been my go-to destination for years, & with good reason-it's consistently exceptional in every way. Nestled in the heart of downtown Montreal, this restaurant offers a refined escape from the everyday, where elegance meets warmth & quality is never compromised.
From the moment you arrive, you're met with an ambiance that is both sophisticated & inviting. The interior design is beautifully curated-dim lighting, tasteful decor, & a serene energy that makes it equally suited for an intimate date night, a high-stakes business meeting, or a well-earned moment of calm after a long day.
The service at Yama is second to none. Shaf, David, Mo, & the entire team are true professionals: attentive without being intrusive, polished yet personable. Their genuine hospitality & deep knowledge of the menu elevate the experience to something memorable every single time.
The food speaks for itself. The sushi is among the finest in the city-crafted with precision, perfectly balanced flavors, & always fresh. The wagyu burger is indulgent, beautifully prepared, & full of depth. Their cocktail program is equally impressive, offering a creative yet classic selection that complements the menu perfectly.
What I appreciate most is Yama's consistency. Over the years, the quality has never wavered. It's rare to find a restaurant that strikes such a perfect balance between upscale dining & authentic hospitality.
Whether you're looking to unwind with a drink, enjoy a top-tier meal, or impress a guest, Yama delivers on all fronts. It's more than a restaurant-it's an experience. & one I wholeheartedly recommend.
