Tula was an absolute delight. The restaurant opens for dinner at 5pm & we got there between 5:15 & 5:30; we were the first patrons. The restaurant was packed by 6:30 & we also saw many take out orders. We learned later that the owner & chef/menu creator himself follows a gluten free & vegan diet. This made sense as the menu was 100% vegan & 99% gluten free.
We started with masala chai, which hit the spot after a long day. The chai was served in a little matki (clay pot) & was aromatic.
For our appetizer we ordered the ragda patties, a street food. It was served in a small copper skillet. The dish was made very well with authentic flavors throughout. The potato patties were topped with the ragda (chickpea gravy) & garnished with sev (thin fried crispy noodles made from gram flour) & the traditional green/coriander & sweet/tamrind chutneys. Every bite had flavor. It's a big dish & perfect to share.
For our entree we split two dishes. We ordered the tofu tikka masala & jeera aloo mutter with two rotis (1 regular & 1 gluten free). The tofu tikka masala was seriously comforting. The dish tasted like it was homemade, was packed with flavor from simple ingredients & earthy spices. The jeera aloo mutter is a dry dish & mild. For us it worked well to use the gravy from the tofu tikka masala with the jeera aloo mutter. A simple dish, but very comforting. We were thoroughly impressed with the GF roti! The texture & taste were exactly like regular wheat roti…compliments to the chef for nailing it!
& finally for dessert we ordered what Chef Abhishek called a beautiful choice. The gulkand panna cotta. The flavors of this dessert are inspired by paan. Oh my god, this dessert really was insane. It captured the flavors & textures of paan without being overly bearing on either. The shredded coconut atop the panna cotta was'the icing on the cake.'
We chatted with Chef Abhishek to learn more about his inspiration & compliment him on his restaurant & menu. We learned that Tula means Balance in Sanskrit. He took everyone's orders & would take time to talk to all patrons.
This was an absolute gem. Chef Abhishek also shared his thoughts & execution for lunch/brunch. We wish we could have come back the following day to try out the lunch thali, which looks very unique/creative.
Abhi was wonderfully welcoming, & the food was excellent. We enjoyed the discovery dinner & would highly recommend it. The brunch menu also looked fantastic - something to try on our next visit. Thank you, Abhi!
What a gem at the heart of the city!! I'm so grateful my beautiful girlfriend brought me here for lunch! The food was beyond incredible… a perfect combination of exceptional taste & health, knowing that Ayurvedic principles are the foundation to their recipes. Every dish we experienced in the lunch platter was beyond delicious, & I absolutely loved the calm, rejuvenating feeling of TULA's decor. I'd give it a 6th star if I could. DEFINITELY going back next time I'm in town.
Tula is such a gem in Montreal - the food is absolutely delicious & the owner is truly adorable.
Was at Montreal during the weekend & went to Tula. It felt like home cooked food. Abhishek takes time to talk to his clients & explain the dishes. Each one is better than the other & you want to try all of them. From the biryani, Butter chicken to the Thali there is something for everyone. I had the brunch Thali & went next day for the biryani. Was simply amazing & I will go back for sure. There are few restaurants that cater to gluten free & this one has most options. I still have the taste of the delicious food
The most delicious vegan Indian restaurant I have tried. The biryani is delectable & the Thali a feast for the senses. I am so pleased they have gluten free chapati! I'm looking forward to trying their brunch soon.
A lovely atmosphere with calming music & good ambience :) The staff are extremely nice & the food is incredible. All of the options are packed full with flavor but focus on whole, minimally processed ingredients that don't make you feel horrible. Can't wait to go back & try other menu items- a great neighbourhood find for us!!
The food was AMAZING. The servers are very kind & friendly. The ambience is spot on. Btw the music is barely noticeable (a faint ambience meditation music). For people like me who get easily overstimulated it was perfect.
A great dining experience-super friendly, personal service that made us feel really welcome, & the food was both healthy & really tasty. The menu is full of unique, creative dishes you don't see everywhere, & everything felt fresh & thoughtfully made. You can tell there's real care & passion behind it all. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to!
In a city with no shortage of Indian cuisine, Tula stands in a class of its own. Abhi's menu is a thoughtful exploration of India's rich vegetarian heritage, artfully crafted to showcase the nuance & complexity of regional flavors. This is a departure from the familiar, offering a genuine taste of'satvik' tradition-food that is pure, balanced, & incredibly flavorful without being heavy. For those seeking an authentic & elevated Indian dining experience, I cannot recommend Tula highly enough.
The Best vegan food in Montréal. Amazing chilli chicken, Jackfruit Biryani, Sambar, Sasav Salad was 😋 delicious & the Poutine with the spicy mushroom sauce was to die for. Service is top notch. They bring you water on time, take care of your spice level ( just the right touch) & both the desserts were great. Didn't know vegan food could be so interesting. The restaurant is beautiful inside & there is some energy & vibe which relaxes you & makes you feel so good as you dine in. The restaurant is magical.
Ce fut une première visite & ce ne sera pas la dernière!
La bouffe est excellente, les portions sont parfaites servi dans un joli décor zen avec une musique genre studio de yoga !
Le seul bémol est la petite quantité de vin dans mon verre pour le prix.
The brunch platter was EXCELLENT. So nice to have an option for brunch that's healthy but also full of variety & inspiring flavours. The lentil crepe served weigh it was especially good.
We celebrated my wife's birthday at Tula, & what an experience it was! Every vegan dish was bursting with authentic Indian flavors, from the vibrant Snacks to the comforting Brunch Thali's. The mango lassi was creamy & refreshing, while the masala chai warmed the soul. But the real highlight was Abhishek-the most gracious host, whose warmth & world-class hospitality made us feel at home & turned a simple dinner into a celebration we'll never forget. A true hidden gem!
