Overall, reviews of Trattoria Gio describe a place offering delicious Italian fare with well prepared pastas, pizzas, arancini, and tiramisu, along with a lively yet relaxed ambiance and attentive service when staff are on. Many diners praise quick, friendly, multilingual service, while a number report slower, less attentive moments and occasional misfired orders that were corrected. Dishes receive praise for flavor and freshness, including bolognese, penne alla gigi, seafood options, lasagna, and desserts, though some meals come across as overly salty or underseasoned. Value and consistency are mixed, with some calling prices reasonable and others noting the bill is high for the quality. The terrace and central location in the Old Montreal area receive favorable mentions for atmosphere, and several visits highlight standout servers who contributed to celebrations and memorable experiences. In short, Trattoria Gio is a solid choice for Italian fare and ambiance, with room for improvement in pacing and consistency, especially for larger groups or busy times.
Food is amazing to say the least. Atmosphere is wonderful, but I had to take off a star for the service. We sat for 20 minutes before even being greeted by a server at our table, & it took 30 minutes to get our drinks. Food came steadily after that but it was very difficult to get the attention of a server when we needed something. But honestly the food was wonderful.
J'ai mangé hier du boeuf braisé avec de la purée & c'était absolument délicieux . On sent la passion dans l'assiette, En plus le service était rapide malgré y plein de monde les entres arrive même avant nos drinks . A reveni
Food was outstanding. The kitchen messed up some orders, but made it right. That's the sign of good service. Mistakes happen, but they owned it, & that earns my respect. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
our food & drinks were amazing! The service was great from our waiter & the atmosphere was quiet & enjoyable! Overall, a great restaurant you should try!
For drinks: we had the white sangria & amaretto sour.

Super restaurant !
We visited this restaurant as a group of 9 at 1:30 PM for their 3-course lunch menu. The restaurant wasn't busy by any means. Two of us ordered something incredibly simple - linguini pasta with tomato sauce - while the rest ordered from the special menu.
At 2:10 PM, when no food at all had arrived yet, we informed the staff that we needed to leave by 2:30 PM because we were on a tour schedule. Instead of acknowledging the urgency, they continued at the same slow pace. At 2:20 PM, they finally brought out the starters (which was nothing special to brag about) for those who ordered the special menu, but the pasta still wasn't served. In general the food should not have taken more than 10 minutes yet we waited nearly an hour for nothing.
We ultimately had to cancel our orders & leave at 2:37 PM without receiving our main courses. Not only did this make us late for our tour, but when we expressed our frustration, the staff argued with us & claimed we should have'said something sooner' - even though we clearly informed them at 2:10, & again before leaving. Paid $5 per person for the starters from the special menu.
The experience was unorganized, slow, & dismissive of customers' time. Very disappointing, especially for something as basic as getting lunch served within a reasonable time.
Would not recommend, especially for groups or anyone on a schedule
We were a group of friends who decided spontaneously to try out this place for dinner. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was not at par. It was slow & often, we had to pass our requests to other staff members due to the long wait times & our waitress not having to visit our table regularly. At some point, the wait became frustrating. Lovely restaurant, but wish the service was better for the price paid.
It was our last day in Montreal & we are so glad we chose this Resteraunt. There was a delightful, charming waitress who we got chatting too. I think it was Maria just finished studying graphic design.
(sorry if I got that wrong). The food was delicious & the atmosphere good. A guitarist on the square serenade us while we soaked up the atmosphere. Thanks to the chef & staff for a memorable meal.
