An absolute must try for anyone looking to experience incredible fine dining sushi from start to finish!

We've come multiple times already & can NOT recommend this establishment enough to all of our friends & family! Food is indescribable & melt in your mouth. Rey served us & suggested dishes that were out of this world: the salmon noodles, crab salad, premium selection of sashimi & our absolute fave, Nobunaga.

All the best to the team of Hidden Fish for their amazing service! Can't wait to keep coming back again & again!

My wife & I decided to try this establishment & set a reservation. The place was packed walking in & one of the hostesses (short blonde-haired girl) almost plowed my wife over trying to go by with no regard. Just focused on where she was headed, I assume but still. Ironically on our way out the same hostess was coming back through & again almost knocked my wife over & bumped me as I pulled my wife out of the way. Again, no regard. I honestly think she didn't even notice, just so focused. So, my suggestion would be to be aware of your surroundings so you're not trampling the patrons.

The pictures of the space are misleading. I thought the space would be bigger. It made it feel like you were on top of others. Nice quaint dark charge just compact. I had reserved the sushi bar. Now we had expected to be able to see what the chefs were doing but due to the height of the wood bar that was impossible. Also, we had expected a more personalized experience as where the chefs interact as had previously at other Japanese restaurants in Jamaica, the U.S. & while living in Japan. Here they just make up the orders. I would suggest a table to anyone since they do not interact, you're just getting a lot of noise. Also, you are in a high traffic spot for the employees coming & going from the back.

All this aside the real surprise was the menu. It is unique as previewed online via their website prior to make a reservation. But found to be misleading/poorly formatted. The section for Sushi Rolls be it 6 or 8 pieces, at the top of each respective page states in red with parenthesis (6 pieces) & the other page (8 pieces). Below are the various rolls laid out with next to each one in red with parenthesis either a (6) or (8) depending on which page you are on. Now I assumed this was the price per roll as I found most menus in Montreal have a format of i.e. 00, 00.00, (0), (0$), 00$, & 00.00$. With a few in place of the $ sign using CAD. I did not think that if a page is already labeled at the top that anyone would format redundantly the amount given. & the actual price is 4 times that. Now I am not saying they aren't making a quality product. It was all very delicious. Presentation was impeccable but honestly to us it wasn't over the top or within reason of the price. I would have to say this is the most expensive sushi I have had. I believe mine was 37 CAD ($27 US). In the U.S. typically I'd say rolls range from $6-$20 USD. The cost didn't really matter, just wasn't expecting it. & again, the rolls are unique, normally not found elsewhere & were delicious. I just think the website should reflect the price of & not the amount when itis already stated, it is just misleading. Also note if your look at the drink's menu online, there are no parenthesis but to the right of each beverage item in red is a number indicating the price. So, you really shouldn't have it on one menu then be different on another.

Drink wise I started with NIKKA MIYAGIKYO PEATED 2021 SINGLE MALT for 35$ (25 USD). I had never heard of it, but I like smokey drinks. A quick check showed this bottle goes for around $250USD. So, I'd say the price equates properly. But I also based this on a shot (being 1.5oz or 44.4ml). When it came out in the standard 6oz whiskey glass it was barely visible. I'd guess based on having these glasses maybe 1/2 an ounce. So, someone either really mis poured or...... I hadn't even tasted yet when another server (we had 2 it seems) came by & asked if I would like another drink & went to take the glass. I said I hadn't even tried it yet. He apologized & said he thought the glass was empty, so that is saying something. On the note of drinks, under sake you can find 300ml DASSAI 45 JUNMAI DAI GINJO for 85$ ($62 USD), this generally sells for about $35 USD. Literally around the corner @ Gyu-Kaku (Japanese hibachi) they sell it on their menu for (300ml) 55$ ($40 USD). Hidden Fish is a 42% markup over retail.

Now dessert, amazing. Nothing like it. The mouse cheesecake was divine. I would go back just for this.

It's been almost three years since this place has been on my list, & I'm so happy I finally discovered it. I absolutely loved the experience from start to finish.

The sushi is truly high quality. Everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, & full of flavor. You can really feel the care & precision behind every dish.

What genuinely surprised me was the price. For this level of quality & experience, it was lower than I expected, which made the evening even better.

Our waiter, Rey, was excellent & made the experience even more enjoyable. Attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely kind, he added a personal touch that made us feel very well taken care of.

An amazing experience overall & definitely a place I'll be coming back to. 🍣✨

We had such a great experience here! The food was amazing. Elrey was fantastic. It was such a lovely surprise to see him again since we first met him when he owned Junjun. It was so nice reconnecting with a familiar face. We gave him free range to choose our plates, & everything he picked was incredible.

An absolutely beautiful sushi spot with an elegant atmosphere. The chefs are Japanese, & you can truly taste the authenticity & craftsmanship in every dish. The menu offers a great selection of different dishes. We had sashimi & maki rolls. Everything was fantastic. Maki had unique combinations & were perfectly balanced & delicious. Plating was beautiful. A wonderful place for a special evening or simply to enjoy high-quality, beautifully prepared sushi.

A Masterclass in Culinary Orchestration & Hospitality

Visiting from out of town, my son & I were searching for a definitive sushi experience in Montreal. From the moment we stepped into Hidden Fish, we were met with a level of hospitality that was as immediate as it was genuine. Despite not having a reservation, we were welcomed without hesitation & seated at the sushi bar, the best seats in the house to witness Executive Chef Haruo & his team operate like a finely tuned orchestra.

While the entire staff was exceptional, our primary server, Matthew, was instrumental in making the evening perfect. He ensured every detail was attended to with grace, striking the ideal balance between professional attentiveness & warm engagement. Under his care, the service flowed seamlessly, allowing us to focus entirely on the culinary artistry.

The precision of the kitchen is matched only by the complexity of the flavors. Several'movements' in this performance were particularly standout:

Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi: A delicate balance of textures where the Miyoga & Ikura provided a sophisticated brightness against the Tosazu dressing.

Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Tataki: Truly exceptional. The roasted garlic & garlic-ginger BBQ sauce enhanced the richness of the A5 beef without overshadowing its quality.

Chutoro Nigiri: A masterstroke of simplicity & melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Salmon Gravlax Maki: A highlight of creative engineering with salmon marinated with beetroot. The combination of Kizami Wasabi, fried onion, & Akazu vinegar rice created a complex, multi-layered sensory experience.

Chef Haruo & his masterful team, anchored by Matthew's outstanding service, have created a venue where technical excellence meets heartfelt hospitality. This wasn't just a meal; it was a sensory experience that outshone any sushi encounter we've had before. We will be returning to Montreal specifically to sit at this bar again.
