Reviews for Sumac
Reviews often mention
chicken(27) falafel(26) shawarma(26) pita(24) salad(23) fresh(19) middle eastern(14) qualite(14) recommend(13) hummus(11) quality(10) tasty(10)The food was absolutely delicious. The staff was kind & accommodating. It's a casual spot - order at the counter, the menu is posted on the wall, but meals are served to your table. We ordered the family platter of chicken & some salads with extra bread & were stuffed. Delicious, creative salads. Will be back!
Let's start with the positive, food is great. Now my negative review has to do with safety concerns. My son had a big ice-looking pease of GLASS on his drink. My heart drop when he told me - mom this is not ice is glass - a cup probably broke & the glass felt on the ice. Why ? because It was open . sumac, I have work in restaurants & Ice should never be left expose to the elements. My sun cut his finger but I am glad he did not cut his tongue or mouth. This is unacceptable!! Please review your safety procedures & protocols. What an aweful experience
Sadly I was disappointed , My review is taste related & menue option oriented.
1- Falafel is to be served with tahini sauce not humus... As Falafel is made of humus...(Dip your humus in humus?) & Falafel is so cheap to make 0.10$ a ball ...that it should come with Tahini sauce even if it's pricier, when we enquired about it, the only option offered was to pay 5$ for a spoon of Tahini on top of a 25$ for a portion of Falafel.
2-You will most definitely need an extra pita bread & you will be charged... So it truly feels like a set up with missing engrients that you will need to'pay as you go' for a complete experience...
3- We also ordered the chicken & i could not finish the chicken ( & I never leave any leftovers ) so much it was oily or greecy chewy ...it Really did not feel like chicken breast more like greecy parts of the chicken, or maybe when they cut chicken so small & then fry cook it & marinate it ... It just tastes like over fried oil & burnt peppers...something was off anys...was it chicken breast? I doubt...
4- the veggies were dull felt like a fast food dull veggies... I do recall having a great experience with the betrave at this place but seems a reduced cost quality ...was tasteless
5-The service was adequate, the place was empty when we were there, nothing to complain about service wise but the limitations mentioned
... Sadly the combination behind not eating great food & over paying did not make of my review a positive one.
Falafel & Muhammara were quite delicious, for the rest, I'd say moderate
The service is great! Food comes out fast & fresh. There are vegetarian & vegan options. Cheers
This is an Israeli restaurant 🇮🇱🇮🇱
Its not Lebanese as indicated in many reviews here. Shawarma & salad tastes bland. Humus was mediocre. I didn't like the food. Prices are expensive I paid about $40, certainly not worth it. I even didn't enjoy the atmosphere. There are many other nice authentic shawarma places. I don't recommend this one!
We went here after a concert & we shared the kefta plate. So good! A nic way to end the night.
We ordered muhammarah as the appetizer & chicken shawarma as the main. All very delicious
Nice, cozy restaurant with lovely atmosphere, good food & good service. Their portions are pretty big, we ordered everything to share & could not finish all the food. We waiting a bit for the table as it was very busy, but it was worth the experience.
Ordered take out. Had the garlic labneh which was the best labneh I've ever had, the hummus, eggplant, chicken, & turnips. Everything was of high quality & delicious! So worth it.
Very tasty. Also affordable & consistent. Please open a second location in the mile end!
Wow, so delicious! I'm from Eastern Europe, & the food reminded me a lot of home. Definitely returning again.
First of all, the Sabich was delicious! To my personal taste, its flavours were very interesting & unique; it felt explosive & light at the same time.
The chicken shawarma with pita, the fries, & everything else were great.
It was a beautiful experience.
SMALL PORTIONS if you choose the plate & it gets expensive when you want an extra protein. Every year, I have seen their portions get smaller & smaller. The pita sandwich is a nice portion. Good food but if you're hungry, I don't recommend. I used to be a regular. Now, maybe twice a year.
Wanted some Lebanese food was debating between boustan right next to it & restaurant sumac. So happy I tried this. I got their beef kafta. Absolutely delicious. Right amount of sauce. Good amount of veg. Bold & balanced flavours. Soft pita bread. Excellent. 10/10
