Went there for lunch. The food is good but there is not a lot of choice of meat. The service was very quick. Unexpectedly at the end after we paid (we all left a tip) the server looked mad & threw away angrily our receipt. Like im sorry but you went once to refill water & you did not effort to communicate with us, don't expect a 20% tip for that. Anyhow overall it was good

Forced us to tip. Even though they had absolutely NO service at all. The servers had an insane attitude towards us, they kept giving us bad looks & didn't even bother to smile. I thought that was the bare minimum? If you don't want to see a customer, simply don't become a server? But if that's your only option for a job & want to earn money from tips, put in some efforts. The way they'asked' us for tips was pathetic. They insisted that we did not pay taxes, even though it was literally written on the receipt that we already had paid the full amount. The manager had a horrible attitude & forced us to pay an additional 6$, insisting that it was'for taxes' but clearly it wasn't. I'm not against tips but you'd had to earn it like everyone else, not force your way into it. Put in some efforts. Please. At least smile. As a customer, I do not plan to go in a restaurant where the server will do nothing but give me terrible looks & judge. Like my bad I want a normal service?

The food was good but I need to make a suggestion that the wait staff let customers know when they walk in when the last call to order is.
We came in for a late meal, sat down at 9:45pm & made our order with in 4 mins of sitting.
We just starting cooking when a waiter came by at 10pm saying it was last call in 10 mins.
They close 11:30pm.
Worried that were paying over 100$ for 2 people with tip, only getting 1 round of food & potentially not being satisfied. We ordered a second round & of course, needed to take some to go. They charged us an extra 25$ to take the plate home.
If we would have know the last call time we would have went to the late night hotpot place down the street.
Kinda scamy not going to lie.
Sad too cuz we've always enjoyed ourselves at sota.

I come here often because the food is delicious & the service is quick. I visited again yesterday, the food was as good as ever, but I was very disappointed with the service of the female staff member. She was visibly annoyed when I asked about the salad I ordered on the app. I waited 30 minutes & didn't see the salad & kimchi that came with my order, so I asked the staff. She looked irritated even though I explained very normally that I knew vegetables were expensive in winter, so we had to pay $1 for each salad, which wasn't a problem for me. Because for me, eating grilled food without vegetables loses 50% of its deliciousness. The service yesterday was very poor & I had a bad meal. I apologize for not tipping, but I was unhappy with the service yesterday. They gave me an incomplete order even though the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. If it were busy, I would understand. But the staff were still chatting amongst themselves. There were missing orders, & not a single staff member cleared the empty plates. I was very disappointed with the female staff member yesterday. Normally I'm not very picky, but the attitude of that girl yesterday made me feel dissatisfied. I hope the team will improve. Thank you.

Has to be the worst KBBQ I have went
Always came here before, but I guess won't be coming back anymore. Service used to be better!

We were in the basement
First, we were served so much food & told us If can't finish it to leave it on the side & they'll take it back. Well we did & saw them putting it back in the refrigerator!!!!

Second, they gave us a bin to put our used containers so that they won't need to get our used dishes!!

Third, They served the same pitcher we had just used for coke to another table without washing it!!

Fourth,the server came & gave me our receipt without even being done & I told them we weren't done & they just replied well you can pay now & stay!!! They even charged me the tip already & we were only 5!!!

Fifth, the food was very average, for sure not fresh, the salmon had a smell

This review is long overdue !! Hats off to manager Jason & his crew !!!
Showing how true leaders should act when customers are wronged. My friend & I were once forced to pay in advance & asked to leave as the line was supposedly getting longer & it was not the case. Wel I called that night to let them know that as a decent customer I was deeply saddened that in my hundreds of times there I had been kicked out.

Not expecting much I asked Jason for some form of compensation if it was possible hoping I'd receive an extra half hour there next time, but I'd never expect Manager Jason to not only offer me a free meal, but rather roll the red carpet for me my sister & friend. The waitress apologized & it was very heartwarming to see that a bad experience had turned into one of my favourite memories at Sotas.

Your kindness & demonstration that customers at Sotas are treated as a family did not go unoticed. Everytime I tip there; I do so with Joy. My friends always eat there after a tough civil engineering exam because it s such a great place to hang out. You guys treated me with respect every time I show up & have migraines or go blind because of the bad lights (due to eye cancer not Sotas fault at all) you guys see to it that I be accommodated to the best of your abilities when there is space. I'm proud to say that since that incident your kind act wasn't just payed ten full. I chose Sotas to celebrate my 30th bday. Whenever there s a debate between going to a new restaurant for a second time or Sotas I chose Sotas to be a hang out spot when my engineering bros & sisters have time to hang & want to unwind. Is it expensive yes, but do they make it worth your while yes. It's one of the few restaurants where I get giddy to go & spend my hard earned money. I may not have been there as much now that I'm a graduate, but mark my words 2026 will see my return there!!

Again thank you Jadona nd your crew for making Sotas a place where all of my engineering friends can hang & trully feel happy after a tough exam or week of work!!! May you keep serving with passion & joy!!!!
& thank you for turning what I genuinely thought was the end of an era at Sotas into the renaissance of a new one.

La nourriture est bonne, comme je l'avais déjà mentionné il y a deux mois. Cependant, ma récente expérience n'a pas été la meilleure. Le service laisse vraiment à désirer , les serveurs ne parlent ni ne comprennent le français, & en plus ils te forcent pratiquement à laisser un pourboire de 18 %
Je ne suis pas cheap, mais pour moi on laisse un tip quand on reçoit un bon service. Franchement, le service est à améliorer.

I highly recommend SOTA! I've been to three different Korean BBQs & this one is my overall favourite. There's no strict time policy to stress you out. The place itself is nice, the staff was friendly, the service was sUperfast, the portion sizes were smaller - which allows you to taste more items, & overall every item was good (except the sausage - I wouldn't recommend). I particularly loved the Korean bone beef stew, the dragon roll & the array of sauces that are available to you. I was pleasantly surprised by the black sesame icecream : probably not for everyone as it has a very powerful taste which tastes like sweetened sesame oil - I loved it. The black bean icecream was disappointing : it tasted like a watered down cherry icecream. The price bracket I indicated is including tax & tip

Used to be one of my favorite lunch special restaurant pre-covid. Last month, I went back & its very overpriced for a lot less options on the menu. 35$ all included (tx+tips) isnt a lunch special.

Sadly, I most likely wont be going back.

Edit: 1 year later, never went back.

The food was very good, but the service is very unprofessional when paying the bill. My friend & I paid 150$ for both AYCE which costs 53$ (taxes & tips included) which makes it 106$ in total, the waiter returned us only 30$! They were supposed to return 44$ but then I asked them to return the extra 14$ that they forgot & they OFFERED to return 10$! They were like bargaining for a cheaper price, & finally returned the full 44$ after ~10 minutes! It does not take ~10 mins to solve simple maths & it wasted a bunch of time for a scheduled event we were supposed to be going. Honestly this isn't some rookie mistake, even a 5th grader can solve it.

Our experience at Sota BBQ was incredibly disappointing. We were a large group with a reservation, but when we arrived, they sent us to the basement & split us into three separate tables far apart from each other-not ideal for a birthday dinner. To make matters worse, the basement was unbearably hot, leaving everyone sweating like we were in a sauna.

We arrived at 9:30 PM, a full 1.5 hours before closing, but they rushed us to order everything immediately because they claimed the kitchen was closing. For a Korean BBQ, this completely ruins the experience since the whole point is to order gradually as you eat. Instead, we were forced to make a massive order upfront, which was hard to gauge. Naturally, we ended up with too much food, & they quickly informed us we'd have to pay for any leftovers. It honestly felt like a setup to overcharge customers.

On top of that, they didn't bring many of the items we ordered, brought too much of others, & the food quality was mediocre at best. The chicken was questionable-neither looking nor tasting like chicken-& the sushi was on par with gas station sushi. They also never replaced the grill, even when it was full of burnt scraps, which every other Korean BBQ we've been to does automatically.

To make matters worse, they automatically added tips to our bills, which was not only unexpected but also felt inappropriate given the poor service. I'm not even sure if this is legal, but it was definitely not appreciated.

It was absolutely not worth $57. For that price, you'd expect much better food, service, & an overall experience. Instead, it felt like a complete ripoff.

Best Korean bbq I have in Montreal, super fast service & unlimited soft drinks, Fanta & Canada dry are my favorite, especially the sushi surprised me. I love pork belly & beef rib so much. Highly recommend & 5 stars. The waiters work so hard that they deserve 15% tips.

The service was not so good. It's true that there were some food that never arrived, or arrived incomplete or it came after a delay. Also, We weren't planning to leave, but they brought us the bill what I found disgusting & they were charging 11.99$ for our baby that it's less than 2 years old but after we told them they removed that from the bill, so pay attention to the bill. They don't have a very good customer service. The tipping system is not great at all. It's was not the best experience!

Not as good as i expected. Tastes ok. Service is ok. Atmosphere is not good for me. Not accept debit, only credit or cash. The server comes to charge the bill at the table & ask for tips.

Food is Ok, normally I do not complain about what I eat, there are millions have no food to eat, but honest service is something I should mention. We went to that restaurant for my son birthday with 2 families of my friends (total 12 persons, 5kids & 7adults food is good, service is Ok, the servers are quick, but the toilet is very bad condition. You can make a small assumption on how good of a restaurant by looking how they manage their toilets, since you can only see the toilet not the cooking place. 😬😬😬 I asked for the bill, they quickly gave me the bill with service fees of 15%, which was added directly to my bill before tax is something not right. I added 15% of tip as a thankful for the servers who normally work with low payments (Normally I gave 20% for them, but this time service fee is something I do not like, mostly get by owner instead of workers). Then the lady seems to be the boss of restaurant said to me that I can have coupons for eating next times if I open my Google account & rates them 5 stars for all services. Then I said sorry, I do not need coupons anymore. You can play this tricks for other but not me. Btw, this is the second times I with my friends go to this restaurant, last time was December, & there were 5 families of 20 persons. I did not rate because I do not want to give lower stars. But this time, I am not happy with the coupons boosting for 5 stars service. I saw that the lady boss went around & traded other customers for 5 stars service. No, you can not buy my rate with that. They saw that I was not happy with coupons trade, then brought a small gift for my boy as a compensation , 3 coups of ice-cream in a special glass with a candle for him. It makes him happy. What a smart way. 👍👍👍. (These ice-cream are free in the menu anyway). Normally I do not rate, but I have to rate this time to give an honest opinion, rather than seeing a faked 5 stars all services. Then you can not trust the recommendation from Google anymore.

I don't think is worth the price. The food is ok, so if you go you might actually enjoy what you eat, but only that. The service is almost non existent, the only time anyone turned to look at us or spoke to us was when we arrived & when they asked for the bill, other than that they barely look at you when taking the order not even imagine to ask if everything is ok. The waiters are always looking everywhere but customers they just take the paper with your order & leave.

Also the environment would be better if the people who go to each table to clean the dirty dishes were not throwing them all the time into the cart, making constantly loud noise next to each table, so you are not very comfortable when eating.

Also with taxes was $45 each + tip, I know is usually the average price for an all-you-can-eat but this place is just not worth it, it was not a pleasant experience & I don't think I'm going to be back & I would not recommend this place tbh, I think you can get something a lot better anywhere else. Very disappointing
