Rib 'N Reef is described as an upscale Montreal staple offering a timeless steakhouse atmosphere and a dedicated cigar lounge, where attentive service and a refined vibe are consistently highlighted even when opinions on the food diverge. Many guests praise the steaks when cooked to order, along with strong wine recommendations, oysters, lobster, and elegant presentations, and several note a memorable, polished experience with thoughtful tableside touches and generous portions. However, other reviews flag high prices relative to the quality of certain dishes, with some steaks described as tough or bland, salads and sides failing to meet expectations, and dining room dynamics sometimes dampening the mood due to noise or seating near service areas. Parking and valet and the overall luxury feel contribute to the sense of a special occasion venue, while some guests feel the kitchen delivers inconsistently and that value does not always match the bill. Overall the consensus points to excellent service and ambiance sustaining repeat visits, with food quality and price balance varying by experience.
Would love to extend a special thanks to my great server Youssef for the lovely evening. I had my birthday supper this week at the rib & reef upon entering there must have been a confusion about my reservation so I had to wait a while for my table. However besides that all went super well appetizers were great the bread & pickles were a great addition to our meal. Eggplant parm was good & both of our steaks 🥩 were cooked a perfect medium rare. To make things right Youssef offered us a complimentary dessert tray & coffee. That's honestly a great way to treat customers & helped warm me over definitely will be back I feel like the service alone is great & so is the food & atmosphere.
Serving possibly one of the best steak tartares in Montreal. If not the only traditional style tartare prepared tableside. Edit note- Ok so as Peter has requested, I changed my rating to 5 stars.

We were one of the first to discover Rib & Reef when it first opened, i moved out of town for a few yrs & visited tonight
The pricing is egregious, the steaks were tough & chewy, the caesar salad made both of us sick so not sure if eggs were fresh. They went from mouth watering food to average & below average food at 5x the price. Terrible experience & definitely not worth the price. 122 dollars for a rib steak, of average quality?
This place is a classic for a reason. Only strange part is the parking... if it's your first time & you don't want to valet, it's hard to figure out where to park.

This is still my favorite restaurant in montreal , the service standards is something the rest of the town can learn from , the food quality is great & its cooked well & its a good place for drinks & cigars
It's usually so much better! We aren't weekly regulars, more like three or four times a year, with the family, twice a year in a big group, but this was by far a surprising disappointment.
Went New Years Eve before the gala. The steaks across the board were tough & charred. Same atmosphere, same awesome service, great drinks, the bisque & wedge salad were all great.
But the filets, sirloin & rib steak were all tough. Overbooked? Rushed? New chef? I dunno, but the five of us spent 1200.00 for dinners. At over 100.00 per steak, it should have been better.
We won't go back for a while.
The owner said he/she didn't see my name on the reservation list but didn't address my concerns.
That's because the reservation was made by my partner, in her name.
I went there for New Year's Eve & I was strongly disappointed. First off they placed our table at the corner where every waiter / worker would pass by every 2 seconds. Impossible to be comfy when constantly surrounded by people walking left right.
Some of us ordered the steak & let me tell you, there was no taste at all for a 60-80$ steak, my friend had to ask for HP sauce…
As for the service, it was very long & when the food would come they would rush us between dishes. Super unprofessional

Food & service quality no longer satisfactory.
My husband & I are regular clients, however our last visit proved to be quite below our expectations. We were there for Monday lunch. The service was polite but speedy, with attitude but without interaction, just going through the motions. The soup's quality was below average (tomato & leeks), seemingly using left-overs. The filets mignons were undercooked & full of nerves. In retrospect, we should have said something right there & then. But we need to be honest about what we received for the money, as our bill came to close to 300$. A lot of money for such little satisfaction.
