I don't think I can say enough good things about this place.
I have eaten at Michelin star restaurants all around the world. A lot of them are generally tasting menus. Which I do believe foxy may offer. However, we chose the Comptoir chef seating. Which means we got to sit at the counter & watch the chefs in action it was such an amazing experience.
When you first walked into the restaurant, you can smell the wood because they cook everything over wood & it is such an amazing smell. It sets you up for a great experience right from the beginning.
We sat at the counter as I mentioned. At first, I was thinking while this counter is awfully tiny. How is this going to work. But I do find that the servers staggered the food & placed everything precariously in a way that made it all work. So yes, it's a small space but it worked just fine.
We ordered a bunch of items to share between the group. We started with the Scallop Crudo & the feta & pita. I personally loved the scallops more than the pita, but my coworkers loved the pita better. Then we moved on to The Little gem salad & the Capelletti pasta. Both were fantastic. Last we had maitake mushrooms & cod. The mushrooms were a meter event for me! I've obsessed with mushrooms, & this was absolutely incredible.
The server came by & asked if we wanted dessert. We decided to have oysters & carrots as our dessert. Lol we saw the chefs making them & they just looked so incredible that we couldn't resist.
This is going to sound really strange, but those carrots were really one of the highlights for me. I can't explain it. They were just so incredibly flavorful & it was something I will think about for a long time.
The only negative for me is that I didn't really love the wine selection that the server suggested. However, wine is such a personal preference that it's not really his fault. It just it wasn't for me.
Major shout out to Jenna. She was manning the oven closest to us. & she was doing everything with a smile. She was explaining the process to us. She was doing such an incredible job. She made the experience even more fun.
I will 100% come back here when I am back in Montreal.
Stunning room, great service & delicious food. We were very happy with our meal at Foxy. & it was super cool to watch the chefs cook it on live fire.
Definitely advise sitting at the chef's counter - so fun to see all the dishes go into the wood fire stove & all the artful presentations by the kitchen staff
Must order feta & pita & the Giuseppe's Garden cocktail. Shishito peppers were also great
Our dinner turned out to be the best meal we had during our most recent visits to Montreal, even outshining our experience at Joe Beef.
The only hiccup was that we reserved for the'chef's counter' section, but when we arrived, we were encouraged to pick another section of the restaurant as the seats were literally right across from the oven, giving you an instant sweat!
The dishes were all well executed. Our favorites were the crudo, mushrooms, & asparagus.
We had a great dinner! Love the wood fire smoke. Not smoky or hot in the restaurant, which I was worried about.
The food was extremely good & the service was excellent. The chefs were dedicated & took great care in the work. Beautiful food.
The pita & feta was fantastic & worth the price.
The halibut was perfectly cooked & fresh as heck.
The cavatelli mushroom pasta was phenomenal. They really built up the mushroom flavor through stock & such.
The half lobster with red pepper was very good, but was served a bit cold.
The cocktails & dessert were good, but not on the same level as the food.
Great service, good ambiance. You're always right up next to the action no matter where you are sitting thanks to the way that the seating is structured around the kitchen & the bar.
Listen to your host, they know a lot & they have fantastic specials. Bring your chef friends here.
Delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. You can tell that the chefs put a lot of thought into the menu's creativity & execution. The duck with barley risotto was my favorite dish of the night. Everything else was good but not necessarily memorable.
