The food was flavorful & well prepared, you can tell there's attention to detail. The atmosphere is cozy & relaxed, & the service felt genuinely friendly. Overall a great spot, I'd definitely come back 😊
Restaurant Chouchou is something that has surprisingly been missing from Montréal. The restaurant has a bustling, yet intimate, French bistro ambiance, serving Chinese cuisine with a distinct French flair. The char siu pork is notably tender, & the accompanying pickled vegetables balance the richness of the dishes with their tartness & crisp texture. The dessert, presented with a blend of colors, textures, & flavors, is a sophisticated reinterpretation of a classic.
I entered with skepticism after browsing the menu, curious, almost unconvinced that elevated French methods would work on traditional Chinese flavors. Yet I left, with positive sentiment, about what I just consumed. It was familiar but different, creative & stunning, a unique dining experience. It was a fine dining adventure that offered value & one of a kind menu, in a culinary city where one thinks they have seen it all.
Personal highlights include the miso tea egg flavored with black bean dace (that traditional oval can found in Chinese grocery stores) & the Pekin duck bun. One minor comment or a one-off, I wish the ravioli was served a bit hotter, but perhaps there was a purpose for it being warm.
Everything is made in-house, you can taste the quality & care. I recommend to all to at least give this newcomer a try & see for yourself. The menu DOES work!
If you're looking for a restaurant in Montreal that truly surprises you-in the best way possible-Restaurant Chouchou is one you don't want to miss.
This fairly new restaurant has such a charming & inviting atmosphere-warm, stylish, & thoughtfully put together. The service throughout was excellent: attentive, welcoming, & perfectly paced without ever feeling rushed.
We began with the Mimosa Egg & the Peking duck sandwich. The egg was beautifully prepared-light, creamy, & incredibly refined. The duck sandwich, however, completely stole the spotlight. The duck was tender & rich with a perfect balance of flavors, & my husband hasn't stopped talking about it since.
We also had the Chicken salad, Tofu tartare, & the Scallops. The chicken was unbelievably tender-truly melt-in-your-mouth-& paired with fresh, vibrant ingredients. The tofu tartare was a pleasant surprise-fresh, delicate, & thoughtfully seasoned, offering a lighter yet equally satisfying contrast to the other dishes. The scallops were outstanding: perfectly prepared & paired with coconut to create a dish that was both delicate & bursting with flavor.
We then tried the Salmon & the Squash Ravioli with peanut sauce, & both were equally impressive. The salmon was cooked flawlessly-moist, flaky, & full of clean flavor. The squash ravioli was a standout for its creativity, combining sweet & nutty notes in a way that felt both comforting & elevated.
What made the experience even more special is how memorable it was-we spoke about the meal the entire way home & have since recommended it to many friends. My husband, who rarely comments on restaurants, has been telling everyone about this place.
Chouchou is absolutely worth a visit. We will definitely be returning.
One small note-since it was our first visit, we were excited to try a variety of dishes, which meant the table felt a bit tight once the plates arrived along with our drinks. Also, parking in the area can be a bit challenging, so it's worth planning ahead.
I tried the entire menu, & the appetizers were a total standout-the Scallion Focaccia is a must-try. The Urumqi Chicken Salad was incredibly fragrant with its Sichuan peppercorn oil, & you can tell the chicken was marinated overnight; it was exceptionally velvety & flavorful. Another genius pairing was the Char Siu Pork Neck with the burnt onion sauce; the smoky, charred notes were an unexpected but perfect match. Osmanthus providing a sophisticated sweetness that pairs beautifully with the pear. E very dish shows a deep, authentic understanding of Chinese seasoning. Highly recommended!
A true gem in the heart of Quebec! Restaurant Chouchou offers an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance is the perfect balance of cozy & sophisticated. Each dish was beautifully presented & bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. I loved the roasted duck sandwich the most-absolutely delicious! It's clear the kitchen team takes immense pride in their craft. A must-visit for anyone looking for a memorable meal. Merci beaucoup pour ce moment d'exception !
