But after eating at Bruce last night, enjoying their roast (only available on Sundays) & sharing a ginger cake dessert, my sadness went away. I will be back to try their other dishes this summer! An excellent find! Highly recommended eating here.
Must go to if you are in town. The food, service, people, the drinks, everything was fantastic. Try the spicy ginger cake for dessert .
I noticed this restaurant had just opened nearby so i had it on my list of places to try out for a while as it's rare to find a Scottish restaurant. I made a reservation to celebrate my brother's birthday which gave me an excuse to try this place out.
We ordered the mushrooms, battered blood sausage, & the sourdough to start. The mushroom dish was amazing & even better on top of the sourdough. I found the battered blood sausage to be too heavy & greasy & would have preferred something more than the citris jam (?) on top to to balance out the grease. Otherwise, i enjoyed the taste of the blood sausage itself!
For our mains, we selected the lamb shank & haggis. The lamb shank was beautiful & very flavourful. It was our first time trying haggis & it blew our mind away. Incredibly deep flavours & very peppery. The gravy provided was also complimentary to the haggis. We had asked for additional gravy & they were happy to give us more. I do wish we had something fresh or textured as it was all soft textures across the dish (mashed potato, mashed sweet potato, haggis).
Lastly, we ordered the cranachan (similar to a raspberry fool) & also the ginger cake (similar to a sticky toffee pudding). The ginger cake was incredible & moist. I have high standards for cakes like this with toffee because it's one of my favourite desserts & it met my expectations & beyond. The cranachan was a simpler dessert in comparison.
Overall, incredible service, surprising portion sizes (bigger than expected which is always good!), beautiful decor & ambience.
Would love to be back when they update their seasonal menu.
My first Scottish restaurant in Griffintown & a really awesome venue 😇😇 We loved the ambient atmosphere & the staff was super nice, kind, & helpful 🙏🙏 From the maître d' to the server & the bartender it was fantastic service the entire time! We had the Chardonnay & then moved into the appetizers - sourdough, goat butter, & croquettes & it was beyond tasty ❤?❤? For the main dish I had the lamb shank with risotto & my husband had the Fish of the Day & each bite was super delicious ❤?❤? Our full compliments to the chefs for making such a gourmet's delight made with so much attention & care 🙏🙏 Finally for dessert I had the chocolate mousse & my husband had the ginger loaf & it was heaven on earth ❤?❤? Cannot wait to come back to this 11/10 Scottish restaurant & try other amazing items on its menu with the best staff & service 😇😇
I have never had Scottish food so can't speak to the authenticity of what we ate but every single dish was delicious. 4 of us (plus a 2 year old) split two of the small bites, 3/4 mains (only because the fourth wasn't yet available for the soft opening), 2 sides, & 2 desserts, & everyone was happy (especially kiddo who ate everything & liked the haggis & the lamb the best!). Their namesake stout is phenomenal, & my cocktail with home pressed green apple juice was also excellent.
Service was also phenomenal. Having a nice meal out is tough with a toddler but they made it special for him too. We all had a great time & can't wait to go back!
