During the past few years, this Montreal neighbourhood hidden gem has progressively ascended the' Top 100 Best Canadian Restaurant' ranking list. Currently, it occupies the #7 spots, just behind our Ontario-own Pearl Morissette, Alo, Edulis, 20 Victoria street…etc.
By pure luck, dining options for our relatively large party of 6, required special handling by the smallish & cozy restaurant & its compact kitchen. This resulted in our being offered a fixed price, pre-arranged'omakase' menu, consisting of communal size dishes for sharing. This menu will be specially crafted in person by Montreal celebrity chef/owner Ari Schor himself! A nice surprise & welcoming privilege!
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly & graciously by the wait staff & the two owner brothers, Ari & Pablo. After exchanging hand shakes, hugging & verbal pleasantries, we all settled down, ordered our pre-dinner cocktails & eagerly awaited the arrival of our culinary feast.
We were presented with the following dishes:
Appetizers:
- Potato Knish with Imperial Osetra Caviar
- Montadito of Mackerel with sesame, salted butter & horseradish
- Involtini of Zucchini & Swiss Chard with yogurt & pine nuts
Mains:
- Drunken Guinea Fowl & Liver marinated in Sherry
- Tagliatelle served with Chanterelle, braised Zucchinis & Pamiagiano
Reggiano
- Gloucester Old Spot Pork chop with creamed corn & black truffles
- Rabbit with Octopus, Chorizo & Potatoes
- Wild Mushroom Paella
Desserts:
- Strawberries with Marsala Zabaglioni & Amaretti
- House made Vanilla Icecream with roasted Pistachios
Our intriguing French & South American Hispanic fusion fare, with a touch of Chinese theme thrown into the mix, was both rustic yet refined. Dishes' progression was a balanced blend of subtle flavour creations intermingled with some concoctions packed with relatively bold & complex taste profiles.
The Shanghainese scallion pancake taste-alike potato Knish topped with salty caviar was a great overture to our meal.
The Chinese drunken pigeon clone main -'Drunken Guinea Fowl with Sherry' was IMO a clever, masterful touch! The delicious meat, tender & moist…..the medium rare, velvety smooth & creamy foie, exceptional!
I am normally not a fan of rabbit, finding it usually overcooked & dry. Yet, Beba's rendition was a pleasure to eat. The well seasoned meat was nicely seared, flavourful & juicy. Same applies to the pork, which was also perfectly executed, caramelized crust on the outside & moist juicy meat inside. The pile of shaved Black truffle topping was super-generous & the sweet Chilean creamed corn sauce, delightful!
Overall, it was a satisfying & sumptuous meal with generous portions, encompassing some creative, intriguing & unfamiliar ingredient composition & flavour profile
The only downside to our meal was the rather underwhelming, blend tasting & mushy textured pasta dish plus the loud &'funky' background music, which featured African tribal like songs to crackling Caribbean percussion to mellow Hispanic. What a weird mix?!
An evening of good food, warm attentive service & great company! A near perfect total package!View more
Really delicious & unique food offerings accompanied by great service & laid back vibes. The tomato & mackerel dishes were amazing!View more
A lot of little things led to a disappointing meal. I was debating on two drinks, I decided on one. The server brought the other. It was good but not what I ordered. The mackerel dish was served raw. The menu never said that. My wife said it was good. I just don't like raw mackerel. The tomato tart was awful. They did comp it though. Of the three hot dishes we ordered, two (the tart being one) were served lukewarm. The special, pork belly (the other one served lukewarm) was equal parts fat as meat. The tongue dish & the date dish were both really good. The worse part is for what we spent to leave hungry, not worth it.View more
Read reviews & it sounded great. Food was excellent- well prepared & seasoned. Goat ragu & sweetbreads were outstanding. It is quite pricey- we had 3 small dishes & one larger plus 2 cocktails & 2 glasses of wine for 2 was over 300 Canadian with tax & tip. Neighoirhood is funky. Would recommend for special occassions.View more
Every dishes we had at Beba were delicious, service was great, everyone who work there was friendly! & atmosphere was perfect.

Cute restaurant with good vibes & nice open windows. Service were great. The servers were very sweet & friendly.
Food was very creative, which is a plus. I really love the presentation, particularly the appetizers we tried. However, maybe our expectation for the top 100 restaurants in Canada is quite high; we actually think this restaurant is just'alright' for it's price range. I need to point out that the main dish, especially the fish wasn't that good. It's very salty & just not that delicious overall. I haven't had such a salty fish in major North American cities for a long time. I travel quite extensively.
The portion size is also relatively small. With two people paying nearly $300 after tax & tips, we still feel hungry after six dishes (we shared) & two drinks for each of us. Drinks were great, though!
Overall, it's still a good restaurant, but it requires some improvement to persuade me & my friend to come again.View more
Stunning. One of the best restaurants in Canada. Perfect level of service, & the creative depth of their dishes is impressive. Can't wait to to back…View more
The food was at best average. Dishes lacked passion. Favourably didnt blend well at all. Pricing was high for this quality.
Dessert was the only highlights (flume was good)
Was a Chef for 8 years worked in top restaurants in the country but this was a classic Montreal fine dining disaster. Service was horrible our server was rude condescending & injected too much of her opinion. Please kindly let go of the one with the tattoo sleeve on her arm. Her resting face was very unpleasant. Please garnish your dishes at this price point.
Said this before but I'll say it on this review as well Montreal fine dining is a joke avoid it if possibleView more
Food is fabulous, wine by glass - very nice, match the goods well. Table was cleaned very dishes. Awesome experienceView more
Really surprised to see the reviews re. service; we came here a few weeks ago & found the service absolutely exquisite. The bartender (Kathleen?) was super sweet (she suggested'Pisco
Sours' with a splash of passionfruit, which were phenomenal) & Marie -Eve was engaging & attentive, constantly topping up our glasses, making sure the table was wiped after each service, getting our coats whenever we wanted to smoke. She took time to explain how each item was prepared & the source of the ingredients- which made us want to try every last thing on the menu, a truly enthusiastic presentation. We felt pampered the whole time we were there by a warm & welcoming staff who clearly take pride in their work & are passionate about the dishes & vibe they create. Ambiance/seating/lighting was chill & comforting. Highly recommend the mackerel-bagel-fusion dish & pheasant with fava beans. We had a superb time🤍View more
Quiant little French restaurant in Verdun which services rustic Quebecois dishes. Recommend the Mackeral & Knish. Some of the dishes like empanadas & pastas appear to be seasonal so be sure to check menu in advance. Restaurant is small & lively, reservations are highly recommend.View more
In this category of elevated comfort food, Beba is the place to visit. Phenomenal dishes, impeccable service. I went 2 nights in a row. Can be #1 in Canada in my opinion...View more
Quick breakdown: So this has been on my bucket list for years now. I have only heard good things. For my personal taste it was not it. The best thing I had was the mackerel toast. When it come to these types of restaurants I love to rely on guidance from our waiter on ordering & whether or not our order is well-balanced & hitting on their most recommended dishes. I did not get that experience. What was ordered: Mackerel toast 10/10 - Absolutely phenomenal . Layered with buttery & bright flavours all while topped with a fresh piece of fish. No complaints amazing!! Would eat 3 of these. Clams & artichoke 6/10 Very subtle & almost bland. Did not do it for me. Some type of rillettes (not pictured) 8/10 Was very good, but at this point Was frustrated to keep on eating dishes that were paired with a piece of bread or on toast. This is where I would've appreciated more guidance to not have ordered so many toast pairings. Pork chop 7/10 Was fine. My partner loved it. I have had better. Was cooked great, but not running back for it. Very generous portion.View more
Great experience. Charming little restaurant with excellent food. Only made better by magnificent service from Antoine. Couple of standout dishes: Tuna with cold capellini with tomatoes - Didn't expect this to work but it did. Grated tomatoes with garlic reminded me of pan con tomate. Tuna was of exceptional quality. Grilled Rabbit, yellowfoot chanterelles grenobloise - First time having rabbit, & it was beautifully cooked. Montadito mackerel, sesame, horseradish - Looks simple but delightfully balancedView more
Beba isn't so much a restaurant, but more an extension of the owners' own kitchen. Although this place takes its roots mainly from Italian, Spanish, & Argentinian cultures, I think they can claim a little French inspiration as the term "Bon Vivant" is exactly how I would describe the duo behind Beba. Ari & Pablo are exceptionally skilled in the art of hospitality & the rest of their team does not fall short on delivering the same. The definition of unpretentious yet highly attentive service. Super patient, knowledgeable, & willing to accommodate vegetarian diet without fuss (& certainly without serving just salad). The dishes are not overly complex, sometimes only 3-4 ingredients, but they are extremely precise & invoke wonderful emotions. The passion of Ari, Pablo, & their team is strongly conveyed in everything they put in front of you & their eyes would light up while discussing a specific ingredient or wine producer. Having tried a lot of restaurants in Montreal, this place is our new benchmark & even sits above some of the best restaurants we have visited abroad. Our only regret is not coming here sooner! Aside from cocktails, we let the chef & the bar decide what we ate & drank & I can't suggest this approach enough. Price tag on the experience is not low, but worth every penny & we honestly expected a way higher bill with what was brought out. This was a birthday dinner, & we didn't even let the staff know until the end. We forgot to mention it when we arrived but as the night went on, we were treated like royalty & didn't even think to mention it! Although, this seemed to be the normal level of service for all patrons. Thank you for the wonderful experience & until next time!View more
Had very high expectations going into this considering how it's ranked #8 on Canada's top restaurants, but the food was very disappointing. No unique flavours, everything tasted very bland. We got the mackerel, rabbit, octopus, salad, & lamb. Especially for the price of the dishes, it was a big let down. Service was great though.View more
Coming here with the expectation the food will be amazing considering to be on No.8 best100Canada. However I must say it is disappointed. The mackerel is amazing, nicely cured. However the special of the day( chicken wing, boneless then molded & cold on a foie pepper sauce), it sounds amazing when the server told us but the presentation is like coming from a can in a supermarket sample product. The bone marrow is super salty, make it quite unpleasant to eat The rabbit is the star of night (recommended anything on the grill is amazing) paired with the salad. The flan is very good actually. The other things here is the food came out so long , I came at 5:45, had 3 dishes came out quite fast (in 1 hour) but waited 45 minuted for the main course (the rabbit with the salad) which is quite unacceptable. 2 hours 30 minutes for dinner for 2 people is very long - the server is very attentive & cleaning our table quite often, but suggest to course out things better (if the rabbit take long to cook, consider Fire it first then send out the bone marrow) I must say 2 line cooks & a dishwasher to cook for an always busy restaurant is quite amazing, but hopefully they can somehow make the service faster.View more
Less choice recently & a bit over priced for what it used to be. Still an excellent place to try though & to discover new dishes.View more
Delicious & well thought our dishes. I have a gluten allergy (celiac) & the server was attentive to my dietary needs. Cozy atmosphere. Overall a great first impression & would go again!View more
The only thing better than the food was the service. Truly fantastic staff that were talkative & friendly. The dishes were super unique & delicious. Awesome experience!View more
Beba ranks as the number 8 top restaurant in Canada for 2024. When entering you wonder how? It's just two young looking cooks behind the counter. While the food did not disappoint, there was much to be desired from the flow of service & the space itself. The space is actually has a ton of charm, & the outdoor patio with the fire is very cute - unless you get sat there during midge & mosquito season. Trying to have a conversation with the bugs just constantly hovering was tough, I'm glad we got moved inside. Once inside, we were sat at the bar where the bartender was pleasant, knowledgable, & always smiling. The service would be 5 stars, but the production & speed from the kitchen was atrocious. 4 dishes in 2.5 hours just left you always desiring something. Getting to the food, it was excellent, I would go as far as saying better than Vin Mon Lapin (currently the top in Canada). Starting with the mackerel toast - delicious. When it landed on the table, my guest & I both looked at each other thinking this was going to be a fish bomb of oily stinkyness - boy were we wrong. First bite, good, second bite, great, third & fourth bite left us saying "wow, I could order a few more of those, yum!". Moving to the strozapretti & rabbit ragu, absolutely killer dish, one of the better ragu dishes I've ever had. Again, we could have eaten many more. The salad was a salad, a nice break with acidity & freshness, & the guinea fowl had tons of flavour & perfectly cooked & crispy skin. Getting to the desserts, the classic flan has been a staple on their menu since they've opened & it's a very good version of this classic dish, but it did not hold a candle to the wonderful pistachio semi-freddo. The texture & taste of that dish was outstanding. If there weren't so many restaurants to visit in Canada, I'd be back here a few more times - it's excellent. If they can just speed up the service from the little kitchen, that would be great. Overall though, I can see why they are a Top 10 in 2024.View more
TLDR: great service, good idea but food was mostly bland, undercooked, & absurdly portioned. For context I live in NYC & am used to expensive small plate restaurants. I am genuinely confused at how this place can defend some of the dishes. Overall, the idea behind the menu is nice, but the food was very one-note, lacked seasoning, but was also very very rich & buttery. 1. The asparagus dish was $26 for exactly two stalks of asparagus & hollandaise sauce. 2. The knish was bland & the bite lacked flavour. 3. The beef ham was bland & extremely underwhelming. 4. The guinea fowl was completely undercooked, with visibly raw parts. I took it to go & cooked it in a pan the next day. The zucchini involtini & pistachio dessert were great. Also, the service was lovely. I love how they have the servers explain each dish. Maybe I came on an off night, but I can't recommend this place at all unfortunately.View more
5 star all around! Outstanding service, out of this world wine list & beautiful food. The restaurant offers cozy vibe & unique dishes created with top quality seasonal ingredients. One of the best restaurant Montreal has to offer!View more
Finally had a chance to try Beba, I really wanted to like this place the atmosphere & especially service is top notch wow! Cocktails & especially the desserts were also top notch unfortunately the rest of the food was good but not great. I know they vary the menu throughout the year so very possible we got unlucky on the dishes given the rave reviews from others. Great experience overall though would go back to give another chance for sure!View more
Beba never fails to deliver an outstanding dining experience. The waitstaff are casual, but seriously know their wines & propose superb pairings with the unique dishes that are Beba's signature. Incredible value, highly recommended.View more
I enjoyed this menu a lot. The food was nice & I would like to try more dishes. I liked the service. Recommend this for a table of two or four. Small & cozyView more
It was disappointing overall. We dined here based on all the positive reviews, but last night the food was certainly far from the best. Some dishes were bland with little flavour, others had too much liquid & were drowning. The couple beside us were actually asked if they could leave because their two hour dining time slot had expired - BUT only half their orders had arrived as the kitchen was behind! WTH? They offered to pack up the rest of their dishes for takeout! Overall a disappointing experience & will not return.View more
Beba in Montreal is intriguing! The vibrant atmosphere with a focus on cocktails & evolving menu items reflects the establishment's commitment to providing a unique culinary experience. The diverse fusion of Italian & Spanish influences in the dishes, such as the changing daily fillings of empanadas & the creative knish with potato & caviar, the potato is so good. The guinfowl dish, with crispy skin, mashed potatoes, & mushrooms, have left a particularly positive impression.View more
