Service was efficient, but we found our server to be a little dismissive & she encouraged us to over-order. Food quality was variable. The fish was excellent, as others have noted, but the pasta was uninspiring. The salad was fine & well-presented, but the dressing was similar to a Caesar dressing I make myself. The stuffed dates were delicious, if drenched in a bit too much olive oil. The wine list was extensive, but sold at a high price point. Overall, an interesting establishment, but expensive & our party of four did not feel this to be a Michelin-rated experience.
It was our first time at Beba & we had a lovely night. Cute date spot. Definitely a place to go as a pair & not group (at least for me). We had the tasting menu, which was 5 courses. The plates & quantities are small but with 5 courses we were very satisfied. We started with a dirty martini which they made perfectly & the sommelier helped us choose a good bottle of white. Our favorite dishes were the Montadito & the foie gras stuffed dates. The fish was delicious too. We later regretted opting out of the Oso bucco since the tables around us got it & it looked so good. But that's just over indulgence !Service was excellent. Loved the environment & space, it really gave cozy small Brooklyn vibes with moderate volume Brazilian music playing in the back .Overall a lovely experience, I would for sure go back.
We enjoyed a superlative experience at Beba. The service, atmosphere, & food all added up for a very speical night. Every dish was unqiue & very well composed. The dates with foie gras will live on in our memory, & we will absolutely return to Beba when my wallet can withstand. Kudos to the sound system, well placed sound panels so its not to loud in there, & a great playlist that set the vibe. Music can be overlooked in some places, but no so at Beba - they clearly put time & energy into getting the sound right so that it makes the mood. Great restaurant!
Great neighborhood restaurant. Went by myself worried that there were multiple items I wanted to try & it would be too much food. To my relief, they offered (without asking) that most of the dishes could be in half order, which was perfect. My favorites were the mackerel, you have to get it, & the date stuffed with foie gras. Both were incredibly unique & incredibly good. The knish with caviar was also something I never envisioned that also worked well. While the beef cheek was also good, it was not as insanely unique as the other three dishes. Would love to go back.
Excellent cocktails ('tea for one', & another with vermouth & olives, plus an excellent non-alcoholic cocktail), excellent food, especially the dates stuffed with foie gras. Weirdly bad short ribs though - not sure how they could mess that up so badly. Very small servings of mostly excellent food (except for the short ribs). Bill for three came to $550. We'll definitely treat ourselves to restaurant Beba again when we feel like spending a lot of money for a great evening out. Good music playing, not too loud to talk over.
Walked in, not too hungry, looked at the menu. Smallish. A few things I'd like, a few not at all. A bit wary. Was advised to order between five & six items for a party of two. Menu sectioned into small, medium & large plates. Ordered three (actually four - since the moment we tasted the mackerel - we placed an order for one more, it was THAT good) small plates: knish; mackerel & dates. Two medium plates: coppa de testa; tagliatelle. Flan for dessert. Blew my mind. All of it. It was quite a surprise. I tried things I'd never enjoyed in the past (mackerel) & ended up ordering another, so good. The flan was maybe the best I've ever had. The service was absolutely perfect. It was small & homey & just right. Every single person working there was friendly & welcoming. Spoke with Ari, one of the owners as we were leaving & just gushed about everything. He was delightful. Regarding the negative reviews I read, & I always read reviews from the bottom up, you must have eaten at another Restaurant Beba, because this was on par with May Day in Burlington, Vermont. Spectacular. Next time I'm in Montreal, this is the first place I'll go. Thank you so much for such a delightful & enjoyable evening, all the way around. Kudos to all who are a part of this wonderful enterprise. Oh, & the Ketel One martini's were perfect.
Mackerel, lamb ham, beef tongue & date stuffed foie gras all amazing!
Service is perfect. The staff is very attentive. Shoutout to the server who refilled my glass 6 times , not letting me stay dehydrated.
Food- the menu changes frequently so you need to check the website for latest menu. Some dishes are also served by piece - like the caviar with potato knish.
We ordered 4 dishes:
- mackerel on sesame rice with horse radish (our favourite. Great flavour)
- red dates with foie gras & pistachio (this was fantastic, it's on the sweeter side but it has wonderful flavours)
- morcilla with peppers (this is very similar to Korean blood sausages . Peppers were great)
- veal sweetbread (unique flavours. The little bits of meat were a bit too salty. It overpowered the natural flavours)
Unforgettable dinning night in Montreal?Love the Caviar topped Knish?Swordfish & Dates stuffed with foie gras the most. The foie gras mousse was so smooth, pairing perfectly with the sweetness of the dates. Finished the meal with pistachio semifreddo?nutty, refreshing, & the perfect sweet ending.
The restaurant isn't big, but it feels cozy. The service was wonderful too: when they noticed we might have ordered a bit too much, they kindly offered to make one dish a half-portion. Little details like this make the experience so thoughtful. Definitely will come back agian?
A lot of little things led to a disappointing meal. I was debating on two drinks, I decided on one. The server brought the other. It was good but not what I ordered. The mackerel dish was served raw. The menu never said that. My wife said it was good. I just don't like raw mackerel. The tomato tart was awful. They did comp it though. Of the three hot dishes we ordered, two (the tart being one) were served lukewarm. The special, pork belly (the other one served lukewarm) was equal parts fat as meat. The tongue dish & the date dish were both really good. The worse part is for what we spent to leave hungry, not worth it.
