Even with new competitors, no other dumpling place matches their quality & taste. Fried or steamed, everything's excellent-especially the lamb & coriander, pork-leek-shrimp, & even the tofu. The Chinatown location has a great vibe & faster service than ever. Wishing them continued success!View more
I worked at this restaurant for over a year & half, & my experience was quite disappointing. I believe it's important to share the serious hygiene & operational issues that I encountered during my time here.
One of the most concerning aspects is the restaurant's lack of attention to cleanliness & food safety. I personally saw rats, cockroaches, ants, & flies, which creates an unhealthy environment for both employees & customers. This level of neglect impacts the dining experience & raises major health concerns, & they were reported & had health inspections during the time I was here.
The cleanliness of the kitchen & dining areas also raises serious concerns. I have seen food mishandled, including dumplings that were dropped on the floor, wiped & then steamed again for customers. Moldy steamer trays are kept in use because the owner doesn't want to get it replaced, & teapots are merely rinsed rather than thoroughly cleaned. After customers leave, the water in glass bottles is not emptied before being reused, meaning that the next table drinks water that was originally used by someone else. I had also occurred once that the customer found out that the dumplings had a steamed cockroach in their plate. Sometimes there would be cockroaches just casually crawling across the dining table.
Side dishes are stored in cheap plastic containers, which raises concerns about potential microplastic ingestion, even the wonton soup is microwaved. The lack of proper cleaning & sanitation extends to the steam trays, which are only lightly rinsed just with water by waitresses & waiters, as I was stopped a few times that I wanted to wash them with dish soap. As a result, the first customers of the day may receive food prepared in clean trays, but subsequent customers are served from trays that have only been hastily rinsed.
In addition, the management/HR practices are non existent. The manager plays favorites & the shift allocation was unpredictable. Employees received fewer shifts & by giving minimal or zero shifts so that leads them to quit by their own eventually. This creates an unstable work environment with little job security. I also once witnessed the manager using a waitress's phone to leave a fake 5-star review for the restaurant, which is highly unethical & misrepresents the true customer experience.
The workload itself is overwhelming, with staff expected to do everything-ranging from taking orders & serving food to preparing side dishes, cleaning tables, & washing steam trays & beer glasses, assigning seats, prepare takeout orders, making customers pay, counting the cash by the end of the shift, yet we are paid 12.6 dollars per hour. Additionally, waitresses & waiters do not receive 100 percent of the tips.
The combination of poor management, unclean facilities, & unsanitary practices makes this restaurant a place I cannot recommend for either employment or dining.View more
Steamed dumplings come out faster than pan fried & are just as tasty!View more
We absolutely love this soup dumpling spot in Chinatown! The restaurant is a biiiit tight (it's a popular place), but the service is pretty quick. Our recurring absolute favourites & the beef curry & lamb coriander steamed dumplings, which are simply exquisite.View more
Best restaurant in Chinatown. Incredibly savoury dumplings. & way less crowded than Sammi! If you like coriander, get the Pork & Coriander. The Curry Beef is also super tasty. & be sure to get it steamed! The soup stays in the dumpling that way.View more
Best steamed dumplings I ever had! Didn't even know I liked them before going to this restaurant! I was however not impressed by the fried dumplings & the starter there, so I'll go back only for the steamed. I also always had to wait for the times I've been there, so you have to be prepared.View more
this is my favorite restaurant in montreal. cant live without the steamed dill&pork dumplingsView more
This is the best dumpling restaurants in Chinatown after I tried several other places nearby. The line up was so long & couldn't get inside as it was too crowded inside. So I phone them from outside of the restaurant to place an order for pick up which was the best idea ever. It only took 15 mins for our food & pick up was super easy. We had both steamed & pan-fried, & both of them are the same price & amazing quality. So juicy, flavorful & generous amount of stuff inside the dumplings. Although other places may be better rated, this is my top recommendation if you are looking for a dumpling place in Chinatown for sure!View more
Highly overrated, the pan fried dumpling's dough was kind of raw, some parts of it was dry & chewy & raw tasting. The steamed dumplings were a bit better with fully cooked dough, but it was really flavourless. Not recommended.View more
This place has never let us down. It's hands down one of the best dumpling spots we've ever found, & we keep coming back for more. Even during peak hours, when there's often a wait, the staff is incredibly thoughtful. They make sure you're seated as quickly as possible based on the size of your group, though larger parties might need a bit more patience. We've tasted their shrimp soup & hot & sour soup, & both were delicious. They also serve some truly authentic spring rolls. As for the dumplings, we've tried both steamed & pan-fried, but the steamed ones have won our hearts. Our all-time favorites are the chicken coriander & curry chicken dumplings. If you can't decide between steamed & fried, you can even get a half-&-half order for just 50 cents extra. If you find yourself downtown or near Chinatown, do yourself a favor & give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.View more
Easy, fast & tasty. Had 3 sets of steamed soup dumplings (lamb coriander, pork chive, chicken corn) & a very good wonton soup. I'd come back in a heartbeat.View more
We arrived after 9pm to our hotel nearby & discovered that the kitchen was closed at many nearby restaurants. We luckily caught this place before the kitchen closed, & we are so glad we did! We tried pork & green onion pan fried & chicken & coriander & chicken & cabbage steamed & all were delicious. Fresh, juicy, & really well priced. We're here for a week & my kids are already asking if we can eat there again!View more
Dumplings for dinner? Why not?!! We headed straight for Qing Hua Dumpling (Ravioli Chinois) for some yummy dumplings to keep our tummy happy. We ordered two different types... steamed dumplings & pan fried dumplings. The pan fried Lamb & Green Onions Dumplings were so tasty & flavourful. We also ordered some Pork & Mushroom Dumplings together with some Shredded Tofu Salad. Everything tasted delicious, especially with some hot green tea.View more
Pretty good value dumpling spot! Ranges from around $12-16 for 15 dumplings, steamed or fried. Was busy on a Friday night, but got a table for 6 after about 10 minutes. Nothing too fancy.View more
A perfect stumble upon.... It looked inviting & there was no line out the door like some other places. We had hot & sour soup & the Pork mushroom dumplings. I ordered them fried but feel like i should have ordered them steamed, maybe we'll sneak back tomorrow & do a real comparison. Anyway the dumplings were excellent, service was good & it's a cool place. Lots of good restaurants in the area but you can't go wrong here if you love dumplings. By the time we left at 7 there was a line out the door :)View more
Very tasty, quick service, a short wait but they seem to turn over tables quickly. We had both steamed & pan fried dumplings, it's a toss up as to which we enjoyed more!View more
Good variety of dumpling fillings. You can have them steamed or for a little extra, pan fried. We tried both options & both were tasty.View more
Quick & fast, no frills Chinese dumplings. Got the classic shrimp pork & coriander steamed You can see the whole shrimp pieces so you know they didn't skimp out! Credit card accepted which is a plus in the area. 5 out of 5 jawnsView more
This is a straight up dumpling house. . . NOT Dim Sum, as some tend to confuse the two. Dumplings are steamed or pan fried for an extra fee. Food was very good & portions are plentiful.View more
Absolutely love the steamed dumplings here. Staff is great & service is very goodView more
Simple yet efficient ! The true nature of your dumplings are revealed when you take your first mouthful & get to enjoy the broth that steamed inside . Some of my top pick are : pork & coriander, lamb & aneth, leek shrimp & egg & the last one curry beef ! Lunch time is almost always full during the weekday so be early or late if you're a big group ! Enjoy !View more
Tasty dumplings in a comfy environment -- I can't wait to return. I dined in late on a Monday night, & I loved stepping into a bustling resto after walking through le Quartier Chinois' neon-lit, energetic streets. It was only a 10-minute wait to be seated, & then I was digging the youthful vibes around me: a combination of twentysomething & thirtysomething hipsters; young, middle-aged & senior couples & solo diners like myself. All of us hungry! What I didn't like was watching servers skip me to take orders from a few groups of three diners -- that caused me to have to wait a half-hour for a server to take my order. Not good. & all I had during the waiting period was a pitcher of water with lemon wedges. Then, once my order -- pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (I didn't mind the $1.50CAD extra for pan-searing) -- was taken, it took more than a half-hour more for my meal & a can of Coke to arrive. Was my plate of pan-fried dumplings worth the excruciating wait? Yes, oui & si! I was so hungry that I used only soy sauce, but I ate a few of the porkilicious morsels naked, & they were divine! Next time I'll try some of the condiments that are provided at every table. But yah, I left satisfied both in belly & wallet. As a U.S. citizen using a credit card, I benefited from the exchange rate & zero international fee (merci, Capital One!), so I didn't even feel the tiny extra cost for selecting the pan-fried method over the (default) steamed method. I must mention that having the choice of using a major credit card or some of my CAD cash was a really nice surprise, as I'd "misremembered" that Qing Hua Dumpling House didn't accept credit cards. The restaurant does accept credit cards. As this was my first night out of seven on my Québec province vacation trip, I decided I'd better hold onto my Canadian cash a bit longer. & I was smart, because some eateries in Montreal -- from Chinatown to La Petite-Italie -- don't accept credit cards. In fact, midway through my vacation, I needed to visit a currency exchange office (in Québec City) because I wanted to make sure I had enough CAD cash (including those helpful loonies & twoonies) to leave tips: for housekeeping in the hotel rooms, for doormen & concierge at hotels, for tour guides *&* the drivers of those tour buses, for donations at houses of worship (although I hadn't planned to visit any, I went to three, including St. Joseph's Oratory in MTL), & for food from food trucks & carts at the Just for Laughs Festival in MTL. So, with major credit cards & CAD cash on my person next time I'm in Canada, I'll be stopping by Qing Hua Dumpling House when I reach Montréal. Not only do I love its cuisine & its operating hours, but I also adore its overall vibe. The front-of-the-house employee (not sure if he's the manager) was so welcoming & kind, just one of the coolest businesspeople I encountered on this trip, that I'd return to Qing Hua Dumpling House to experience his sophisticated & charming blend of hospitality ... even after a 13-hour rail trip to MTL from NYC. S'il vous plait, incloyez la Maison Qing Hua dans votre prochain visite au Montréal. Merci.View more
Real rating 4.5/5
Food was real good, we had steamed lamb & coriander, pan fried shrimp pork & leek, as well as peanut noodles.
Service was a bit slow at first, menus took some time to get here, & it was quite busy so somewhat understandable. Found a hair in the noodles, we ate it anyway, & when we told the waitress, the manager came shortly after to apologize & offered the noodles & my beer on the house.
To offer the noodles on the house, that’s expected. To offer the beer on the house, that’s going above expectations, hence the 5 star rating.
All that to say, I’d go back!View more
Really good quality juicy dumpling. There are steamed dumplings & pan fried dumplings. I got pork & green onion Pan Fried. Amazing dumplings!....it's freshly cooked. I recommend this best dumplings spot in Montreal
Went for dinner here last night with 3 friends & we were a little disappointed. I heard many great things about their dumplings & frankly I was expecting more. We had fried chicken & coriander, fried beef curry, steamed chicken & mushrooms, steamed chicken leek & egg...the fried ones were good but the steamed ones were all stuck together which made it a tad difficult to pull them apart without it breaking, & the top part of the all the dumplings were a little hard. The taste of the filling however was delicious. We also had spring rolls that were cold, the coleslaw carrot salad was very good. The service not so great. They literally sat us down, gave us menus & came back like 30 seconds later to take our order, naturally we told the waitress we needed more time. I understand that there is a lineup but it's rude to try to rush people who are eating let alone people who just sat down! I'm sorry to say but I've had better dumplings & better service at another place & I highly doubt I will be going back here.
See, here's a resto that KNOWS what it's about! No confusion here, folks, no kilometric picture menus full of incomprehensible stuff...it's just dumplings!
& MAN are they good!
Made fresh from scratch on the premises in a lovely kitchen in plain view of the dining room - it's fun to stand there & just watch them make 'em - they've perfected the art of making sure they retain all of the brothy juicy goodness inside.
(& yes that does mean that you'll burn your tongue when you bite on 'em if you're not careful.)
We like that they mind the details. The best way to eat dumplings, as every Chinese person knows, is dipping them in a mixture of soy sauce & vinegar. What's nice is that alongside a lovely soy sauce they provide this WONDERFUL, aromatic Chinese black vinegar - & the bottle's right there on the table for you. It really heightens the whole dumpling experience.
Still not convinced? Prices are about the same as at BurgerKing - it's perfectly possible to eat a lovely lunch for under $10/person (beware: cash only.) The atmosphere is quite nice - sort of neo-chinatown chic - the service usually fast, & the dumplings totally addiction-forming.
We always go for the steamed ones, but you can get them "fried" (really they're braised) or boiled as well.
We especially like this place because we have a toddler & the service is really baby-friendly. It's a very relaxed place to come with a kid.
So try it because...dumplings!
