Came to the YUL Pork & Pickle with my partner on our way back home to Toronto. Despite having standard airport prices ($$$), they truly surpassed our expectations. Firstly, our server Ana Teresa was charming & helpful. Also, they had the Winter Olympics playing on the tv which was greatly appreciated, as we are fans of winter sports. We had two draft Molson Canadians each, which were cold, crispy & delicious. We shared the spicy crispy wings which were very tasty, but the star of the show was the Dirty Mac & Cheese. I find restaurant mac & cheeses to be often disappointing, but Pork & Pickle really hit it out of the park with this one. The mac was savoury, with exquisite pulled pork, croutons, & a creamy cheese sauce. We absolutely adored our experience & will be recommending this fine establishment to all YUL travelers.
The brisket was pitiful. Cut lengthwise so all of the fibres run along the brisket, which is unbelievable that anyone would do this. This makes an otherwise good cut of meat a chewy dry disappointment. Furthermore, they douse it in a disgusting tomato bbq sauce to mitigate how dry it is. This is not brisket.
Had the brisket. They topped it with a sauce, not a good sign with me as it's an indicator that it's dry, & i wasn't wrong… it was dry. Lost more points on the service. My 16 year travel buddy, paid in cash, & received change but the server looked pretty annoyed & told him'service is not included'. Heck, i'm all for tipping but tipping culture is getting ridiculous especially when they servers are paid. Tip is for good/exceptional service. Service was NOTHING SPECTACULAR, other than she was friendly until the end. & calling out a 16 year old that'service isn't included' is just pathetic. Pork & Pickle, consider adding a service charge to the bill instead of berating your customers for tips.
Ribs were super dry, brisket was ok nothing to justify a 30$ + a plate.
Tomatoe sauce on the ribs & brisket? Why? Also you don't need to introduce yourself everytime you come to the table...
The service was decent. Beside the waitress seating us that seemed a bit uninterested, the waiter serving us was wearing a smile & he was quite polite too. The food itself was tasty. I really liked the smokey flavour of the meat, it paired so well with their BBQ sauce. The meat was also falling right off the bone which was great & made eating their meal a lot less messy. You also get to pick 2 sides with the main course which ended being a salad & a coleslaw for me & I was a bit disappointed in those because it tasted a bit bitter. The place is pretty big & there's a great amount of space in between the table so it makes the dining experience less cramped & more comfortable. I did however not really enjoy the high chairs & tables because it doesn't feel quite comfortable eating in them. Finally, I do find the price a bit expensive. Most meals are about 28-30$, the chicken & sausage I had was around 29$ before tax & tips. The portion is pretty big though so it does make up for the price somewhat.
The staff were quite cold. The person who sat us hardly said anything & didn't smile. She just told us to follow her. Then our waitress also didn't even say hi or smile at all. She just stood there waiting for us to tell her what we wanted to drink. My husband told her we had a sleeping baby just to try & make the air lighter & she replied with, "do you want me to not talk?". The food was ok. My sandwich didn't have any sauce (I don't remember if it was supposed to). My husband enjoyed his food though. The food was a bit pricey but that's somewhat expected with airport food.
Breakfast poutine was good. Lots of sauce not much brisket the egg was nice. It could use some lemon in the sauce that I am sure came in powder form. Airport food. Expensive & bland.
The worst Pork Ribs that I ever had eaten. They way that they served it wasn't very Appealing, they look like they have been served hours before they go to the table, they do not look fresh & they do not taste good either. The chicken is not really BBQ. It's roasted chicken with a layer of sugary BBQ sauce that I really disliked & had to brush it off. Same for the ribs.
For an airport restaurant, this beats all the odds for a delicious meal. The menu is excellent, & when the ordered food arrived, it looked great. & it tasted great, too. The grilled meats get top marks. They are tender & delicious. The side salads are fresh & tasty. The sauces on the meat are yum. Staff are very attentive & friendly. There are different sections to sit according to your preference. There is also a bar area of you just want to drink & nibble.
I was almosr expecting to see Gordon Ramsey jump out to say shut it down. There was nothing redeeming about the 1/2 BBQ chicken with slaw, French fries & a pickle. The BBQ chicken was a dried out, oven baked bird with a ladle of BBQ sauce poured on top. Not appetizing looking at all, but hang on to that sauce, you'll need it to choke down the dry bird. The slaw had stems & other flotsam in it. The fries appeared to McCain's coated super fries & were cold. & lastly, with pickle in the name of the place, yould think the pick would be fresh & crisp. I don't know where they found the mushy spear they put on my tray. This place surely is only around because there are precious few eateries after security. Do yourself a favor & grab some St Hubert before going through security.
