Palomar propose une expérience centrée sur le poisson où l’on peut choisir son poisson directement à la poissonnerie et le faire griller, avec des plats comme huîtres, moules, tartare de thon, gravlax et lobster roll, le tout dans une ambiance conviviale et une terrasse agréable proche du marché; la fraîcheur et la qualité des produits sont largement saluées, tout comme le service attentif et la possibilité de découvrir des poissons maturés qui apportent une touche originale. Certaines critiques signalent des exceptions, notamment des portions qui peuvent sembler modestes ou des plats mal ajustés au prix, des charcuteries de mer moins convaincantes, des frites trop salées et des expériences de service variables ou des attentes plus longues lors du service, ainsi que des soucis ponctuels avec la gestion des promotions comme mimosa à volonté. Malgré cela, l’ensemble est perçu comme une belle découverte avec une atmosphère agréable et un cadre lié au marché qui invite à revenir pour explorer d’autres poissons, déguster des fruits de mer frais et profiter de l’expérience unique du lieu.
Visitor from Taiwan! After shopping around Jean Talon Market we were looking for something more filling & found Palomar on Google.
We ordered the oyster sampler, fries (of course), a salmon sandwich, & the charcuterie (thought it was interesting to try different fish).
Oyster, sandwich, & fries were great. Seems like lobster roll is the common choice but boyfriend says sandwich was a better choice 😋 Charcuterie was not as pleasant as I thought. Great nibble food but most of the fish is not fresh! It's actually all processed - like fish salami or jerky.
Saw the table next to us order the pot of mussels & was jealous.
Nevertheless, enjoyable dining experience. Very relaxed. Great service.
If the opportunity comes, I will go back for a glass of wine, fries, & those mussels!!
The short lobster roll, $39 only contains a hotdogs bread with fresh lobster meat. Although it tastes very fresh, it is not enough to fill you up. My husband let me eat two pieces, & I was so touched.

Absolutely loved my meal at Palomar! Simone & the team were warm & welcoming, & the service was spot-on. The raw bar is exceptional, fresh, beautifully presented, & bursting with flavor. The ambiance is cozy yet vibrant, making it a standout spot for seafood lovers. Highly recommend! Can't wait to return.
If you go for fresh fish & other sea food amazing selection & they prepare it really well just for me it was missing a little flavour plus I took the tuna burger I'm a big burger fan & was super disappointed being in a high end seafood restaurant the president choice burger at maxi taste better it needs a little work on it to elevate the flavour profile
Really fresh! I would definitely come again next time if I don't want to wait in line in Jean Talon. It's my first time seeing razer clams in the menu here, could give it a try but I have to honest they aren't cheap at all. I like it though. Friendly staff too.
Thank you, Palomar, for a lovely lunch. The food was fresh, bursting with flavour, & unique. The soupe du jour was a hit as was the salmon chorizo with pickled beets. Lobster roll was delicious, nicely presented. We were less enamored by the fish & chips, fries were dry & overcooked, batter was thick, a bit heavy. Service was excellent, the team thoughtful & sweet. Nice dining room, the deli counter dominates a bit & takes away from the coziness but the outside fireplace is a fun touch, especially for diners choosing mimosa a volonté ;). Bathrooms really need a bit of TLC to match the standard of the restaurant.
Franck looked after us tremendously today. Beautiful ambiance inside & out. We ordered the 2 daily specials. Salmon gravlax salad & fresh pasta from market. Both were fabulous & nice choice of wines. Merci Franck!!
Not the best. Inside is a nice decor. I'm sure the raw bar is good but the fried plates are very small portions for yes you guessed it, the price. The Caesar salad is four or five leafs of romaine. Nice presentation, fresh raw sardines was a nice touch. Sadly it was still not enough for a good experience. Staff was very cold. No thank you no have a good day once paid. Just a cold back turned. I've never experienced this. Maybe it's because I only gave a 15 percent tip?
The food is very good from the oysters to the fritto mixto & the charcuterie plate. Everything was very tasty & we enjoyed the scallops & the muscled the most. They tasted fresh & great. The cocktails were also great. Service was a bit slow the day we went but the place was full, this still didn't taint our experience because the food was worth the wait.
Wonderful experience in Jean Talon market. This place seems to be very popular, the tables were almost never empty. The drinks (innovative cocktails) were very tasty & the food was fresh & made with love. Frito mixto was an amazing mix of seafood & fish & the sauces that came with them were perfectly complimenting the food.

We stopped at Palomar at Marché Jean-Talon for a weekday lunch in mid-June 2024. Hands down it was the best restaurant meal of our four-day visit to Montreal. The food was absolutely delicious! We started with a dozen Canadian oysters, mostly from Nova Scotia. They were freshly & neatly shucked. Then we shared a fish charcuterie board consisting of gravlax & a couple of dry-cured tuna dishes. Highly recommended, top-quality fish at a very fair price!
There's a lot to like about this restaurant - there's fresh seafood & the cooked dishes are quite interesting (like the Oscar Benedict which I loved), but it doesn't get full score only because their service is painfully slow. They may be understaffed or their ops aren't tied down but either way expect to wait around 15-20 min for even your drinks to arrive. Otherwise it's got lots of promise!
Loved this seafood place. The raw bar is great, had the oysters, fresh & yummy. Had the half lobster, great presentation & delicious 😋 🤩 great service 🤠😁 for sure going back soon.
