We got a several skewers. Some were delicious, some were just ok. The chicken skin, pork belly, scallops & lamb are pretty good. The vegetables were not worth & the squid was very chewy & tough.
The service is pretty fast & the staff is nice. The price is pretty high considering that we mostly just got skewers (around 80$ per person).
One of my go-to spot, great food & ambiance, sometimes the music is off tho (it was like a club vibe; quite loud &'beaty'instead of a chill pub resto). Their bao buns & fried squid tentacles NEVER miss !! so delicious every time, drinks are good as well & decent portion. They did increase the price $18 for 2 buns instead of $16, as well as the bibimbap, quite steep, but still within affordability.
My last restaurant visit on my roadtrip to Montreal after a floor New York. I had the seared Taylor seared tuna & it was great. I had a Japanese soda with floating balls. They didn't have takoyaki but a side salad with squid. The atmosphere was great & the ladies who served me were fantastic. It was better than the Japanese places in Pensacola. I don't know when I'll be back in Montreal but I'll try to head there again.
My daughter & I had a great time the first time we were here so we returned, but this time it was awful. Soggy fried squid, burnt rice, drinks that came ages after the food, a glass of wine floundering around the 4oz mark, us wearing our jackets for the cold... Contrary to my personality I actually spoke up only to be dismissed completely. We won't return.
Impeccable food, service & Japanese bar atmosphere! It was a recomendation to visit the resto & I do not regret! In the evening, it was full & many Asian-origin customers, which is a goid sign. It doesn't happen often these days to find a reasonable price- quality ratio place where people know what a tasty, flavourful food is. The menu is extensive! I really enjoyed tataki octopus & wasabi cold grilled macrel & grilled squid. Was not sure about the yakitori set - grilled & fried various parts of chicken on a skewer. The Japanese cheesecake & fried tea ice-cream were delish! Will come back to pick up other goodies on the menu!
Okay. This might be the best yakitori I've had in North America thus far. LOL.
Each yakitori was simple & perfectly cooked. They not only managed to recreate the seasonings & simple marinades but also the exact smokey, charcoal taste.
The squid was also the best squid I've ever had, & I dont even like squid that much ; it wasn't overly chewy & perfectly tender.
Okay but Im also SO glad I got the Truffle Karage. It was the perfect fusion of French & Japanese cuisine. The karage was perfectly fried & its marinade was subtle enough to complement the non-overwhelming amount of truffle oil.
As my bf says : "Yakitori & mac miller? What else can u ask for?" (The music was fuego)
Chicken was not cooked through. Felt sick the night & day after. Uni steam egg was laughable. Have you tasted it yourself? Have you tasted it anywhere in Japan, even those cheap breakfast joins? I guess not. Squid was heavily covered with starch & overcooked. Run by Chinese, not Japanese. Nothing wrong with Chinese chef cooking Japanese food ONLY IF YOU ACTUALLY LEARNED COOKING FROM A LEGIT JAPANESE! Otherwise, it's just not authentic.
