About

Otto Yakitori Izakaya specializes in the traditional Japanese art of charcoal-grilled skewers prepared over authentic binchotan coals. Each skewer highlights high-quality proteins and seasonal vegetables seasoned simply with tare sauce or sea salt to emphasize natural flavors. The menu showcases various parts of the chicken alongside classic Japanese small plates designed for sharing in a communal setting. A robust selection of sake and Japanese beer complements the smoky profile of the grilled offerings. The interior design prioritizes an energetic atmosphere characterized by open kitchen views and minimalist wood furnishings that facilitate rapid service. This establishment maintains a focus on technical precision and the integrity of ingredients common to the izakaya experience. Guests encounter a straightforward approach to Japanese street-style food culture rooted in the mastery of flame and heat.

Honestly been coming to Otto since forever, but lately the service has really been the worst. I came about a week ago & both waitresses were so drunk they couldn't even walk or talk properly. Decided to give them one last chance because i love the food there. Tonight, the service was horrible, the staff were talking to their friends the whole night with no service. Waited over 30minutes to order while watching them take shots after shots. They couldn't even get our order right! We wanted to order more but decided to leave, this shouldn't be acceptable. Will not be returning.

We came in an hour before they closed, didn't really get greeted, the whole place was already set up & ready to close, no water, waited 30 minutes before we even got acknowledged by staff. I ordered a double vodka cranberry. They surprisingly did not have cranberry. I then ordered a double vodka orange juice, because they surely must have orange juice right? It was 30$ for a double vodka orange juice. Not grey goose, not belvedere, rail vodka. 30$! That's simply outrageous. Overpriced & subpar service. Perhaps their food makes up for it but unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try.

La nourriture est bonne, les prix sont raisonnables. La salle est assez sombre & le staff n'était pas très souriant.

Honestly a cursed experience. Not entirely sure why it took 45m to get two drinks after ordering twice. Regret tipping because the level of service was essentially none

Be careful if you have allergies!

The food was good, but our server was not attentive. She forgot about an allergy in our group & served us a drink with the allergen, when we specifically asked if the drink contained it. Thankfully, it wasn't a life threatening allergy, but had to deal with symptoms of the allergic reaction for days after.

Ça fait quelques fois que je visite le Otto & j'y ai constamment une bonne expérience : plats excellents, service efficace & courtois, belle ambiance… J'y ramène souvent des ami•es qui sont eux aussi ravis de leur soirée.

Absolutely horrible experience.

I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant before. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The staff kept watching our table throughout the night, & it honestly felt like they were expecting us to leave without paying. It was embarrassing & insulting.

The service was beyond slow. We waited forever just to get water, drinks, & food. Every time we needed something, it felt like we were inconveniencing the staff.

The food was not worth the wait. The skewers were undercooked, bland, & lacked flavor. For the prices they charge, I expected much better quality.

What really ruined the evening was the attitude of the manager. She was rude, cold, & made us feel like we were not wanted there. As Black customers, the way we were treated left a very bad impression & made us feel singled out & unwelcome.

I used to hear good things about this place, but after this experience, I will never return. There are plenty of restaurants in Montreal that know how to treat customers with respect. Save your money & go somewhere else.

I used to be a regular at this bar & always enjoyed coming here, which makes this review especially disappointing.

On one visit, I was told they were closing & could not seat me. However, moments later, my friend who was already inside told me they accepted more people.

I decided to give the place another chance, but on my next visit I was told there was a minimum spending requirement to stay, something that had never been mentioned to me before despite being a frequent customer. The inconsistency was frustrating & made me feel like the rules were being applied selectively.

What disappoints me most is not the policies themselves, but the lack of transparency & respect shown to a loyal customer. Unfortunately, after these experiences, I won't be returning.
