For over 25 years, we’ve been feeding our loyal clientele—not to mention all the tourists who flock to the streets of Old Montréal—at our bakery-café-restaurant on rue Saint-Paul. We give it our all: working hard and having fun seven days a week, dedicated to transforming ordinary ingredients into an extraordinary eating experience for everyone who crosses our threshold. The daily lineups outside our doors are eloquent proof of our reputation.
Olive et Gourmando is described as a stylish spot with a lovely ambiance and reliable service, though opinions on value vary and some menu items disappoint. The food receives praise for items like the Cuban sandwich, the chicken melt, the mushroom mac n cheese, and the pastries, while others note small portions, lack of sides with sandwiches, and prices that feel steep for the portion size. Coffee and lattes are hit or miss, and presentation is sometimes marred by expectations that the food should match the decor. Several comments point out that the newer location is convenient and attractive but still pricey, and some brunch and salad choices are deemed average or underwhelming. Overall, the experience is appreciated for quality ingredients and a bakery vibe, but the high prices and inconsistent portions and sides leave some diners wanting more.
Things to improve: food is really not impressive at all. Chicken burger with no salad or fries, just burger on a big plate? Presentation is poor & it is 26$ before tax! How about making some effort to make the food as pretty as the restaurant decor? Latte is bland.
One thing that is really not okay: the waiter gave us bills without us asking for them. Please don't do this!
A charming little café with cheerful staff, a lovely ambiance, & delicious paninis, the'Poached Egg on your face' was a must-try, though the portions are on the smaller side & the prices a bit elevated.

There is no reason now to enjoy Olive & Gourmando, you can now make a reservation at the Royalmount. The space is beautiful, the service attentive & the food is really incredible. The tomato soup is the best I ever had & the Cuban sandwich is simply the best in the WORLD....REALLY!
Bravo à toute l'équipe. To be more objective in my comment & review, the only drawback is that its hard to find as the Royalmount is huge.
Nice to sit outside in the summer & bonus that I can have my dog sitting at my feet! Definitely less hectic than the Old Port location which is a plus. Food & coffees are delicious but definitely very pricey.
Je n'ai pas été impressionnée par l'offre du menu brunch. C'était bien, sans plus. Connaissant la réputation du restaurant du Vieux-Montréal, ça m'a surprise.
Le temps était splendide, la terrasse était agréable.
Café savoureux.
Overall disappointing experience. The food was very good, but for 25$ for a sandwich you'd expect at least some sort of side like a salad or fries. The Cuban sandwich was very tasty, & my friend enjoyed her Chicken sandwich. The French toast tasted like plain bread with a side of syrup.
The service however was just plain awful. The waiter was very slow, & also forgetful - I had to ask for the same thing twice, & finally just asked another server who finally came through. I really enjoyed the original location in the Old Port, but this one pales in comparison & simply is not worth it.
I've been to their original location a bunch of times & this new one is awesome too. We had the Cubain, Chicken melt, cardamom knots, French toast, & soba salad. Everything was great! It is a touch expensive though. Highly recommend!
